When you are pissed at someone, like if they insulted you or killed your wife etc, you can issue a challenge to duel that person. Of course, you can do that with a shout, but it's less formal and most often ignored, especially with the possible consequences of karma.
DUEL CHALLENGE
DUEL ACCEPT
When you challenge someone, a gmote will be sent to inform everyone your intention to duel the player, something like "Icarus Treeripper has challenged Terenas, The Blue to a duel to death". What it does, other than letting everyone else know that you are duelling that player so they should leave you alone, is that if the player accepted your challenge, there is no suspect status involved, nor will he gain or lose karma, regardless of whether the fight took place in enemy or neutral territory.
A challenge, accepted or not, should wear off after 5 minutes of non-aggression between the players. And it is not considered a duel unless the other person has accepted it. Note that the immunity from suspect status and karma gain/loss only applies to the duelling parties. So you can still be jumped while duelling someone and get status/karma, although it is considered most dishonourable to interfere during a duel.
Let me illustrate how it would work with an example:
Say Munsia did something to piss off Murphy. Murphy, while sitting at the Megalith, issued a challenge to Munsia, who accepted promptly. After a few insults over shout, both agreed to fight the duel at the peak. Now there are three possible outcomes:
1) Murphy wins and Munsia prays or vitae, or 2) Munsia wins, Murphy liches, runs away or prays, or 3) Narsrim jumps in and kills Murphy, Murphy gets suspect on Narsrim and Narsrim loses karma and respect for interferring in a duel.
This system should help in situations where rp pk should be valid but is discouraged because of karma.

I love it!

Excellent idea. For those who like to kill each other for the joy of killing each other and are bothered by the karma system, this is a good way to avoid karmic trouble. If you want to fight wherever you please, at least do it honourably.

Could there be a way to make it so that people who interfer get bigger punishments. Maybe the loser looses something like more Karma etc so if I duel someone and they run but dont die they are coonsidered the loosers and loose something.
