Poll topic speaks pretty much for itself. But what would be your reasoning on it? I'd like to know and hear. Personally, I would vote for Trill as they have a stronger affinity with air, and Hallifax is a city of aerodynamics and floats in the sky. And maybe me being a Trill has something to do with that also
Silvanus2005-03-19 17:57:42
Trill would recieve the Aeromancy specialty, while Lucidian would recieve the Warrior specialty, and maybe both would recieeve the cosmic specialty.
Amaru2005-03-19 17:59:08
Hallifax isn't going to exist unless both races get some upgrades.
Shiri2005-03-19 17:59:24
I thought it'd be Lucidians for the Cosmic, Trill for Aeromancy, and both for the warriors.
Silvanus2005-03-19 18:01:10
Oh right. I thought Lucidian were strength based like Dracnari.. nevermind!
That way sounds more reasonable.

Erion2005-03-19 19:21:34
Both for warriors, lucidian for cosmic, and trill for aeromancy. Yea.
Desdemona2005-03-19 19:34:34
I thought Lucidians wouldn't be warriors at all, being all intellectual. I picture Lucidians as the Guardians and along with the Trill for Aeromancers. Warrior class, if there is even a warrior class, would probably go to the Trill. For some reason I don't think glass can't endure a strike with a bat. Lucidians have level 3 weakness against blunt, after all... Shouldn't this mean that they should avoid being physical?ç
Lucidian: "They used to call me Mr. Glass." -Unbreakable

Manjanaia2005-03-19 20:01:05
Yeah I can just see the Dracnari bursting into Hallifax, easily swatting down the defending Trill warriors while the Lucidians fanny about in the corner, frightened of my stick *brandish stick*
Erion2005-03-19 20:01:22
Look at the Mesa. The Lucidians are by far the cosmic guardians (scientists) and both fight in meelee down in the skarch, and Raa Mooneye mentions that he's glad the trill fill the ranks of the warriors nicely, meaning he didn't have to fight.
Then again, I think they use staffcast, so. Shrug.

I believe that right now as things are for both Hallifax survivors... it is desperate times, so they require desperate measures. I consider the Lucidians not equipped at all for physical combat, but maybe right now that they are away from ther technological fortresses they probably must have no other choice... other than grab a stick, now and then, to fight.
Looking at both races stats, the Lucidians having a slight endurance against magic but a severe weakness against physical, to me points out that they were probably limited on working as Guardians and/or Mages. As mages, they could probably easily control the winds to make up for their lack of natural flight.
The Trill, imo, are rather balanced easily making them the muscle of the Hallifax community and just naturally apt to become Aeromancers.

Desdemona, why would it be the case that giving them magic resistance makes them better suited to BE mages rather than better suited to FIGHT mages? Besides, trill have the aerial regeneration, i.e the "long range" thing you were going on about, and not much suited to warrior combat.
Desdemona2005-03-19 20:36:59
...
Magic protection does make them more suitable to fight against mages, and they already have a decent intelligence to be either a mage or a guardian. But I think they are especially proper for Guardians, seeing how the Institute of the Matrix was probably the Guardian thing for the Hallifax. Still, why not mages also? Their int in pair with their magic resistance does sound a good advantage when fighting against other mages. Besides, Aeromancy probably means the dominance of flight, so there should be skills that allow things to go airborn.
Regarding warriors, as I said before... Trill would be more suitable for warriors because they don't have a weakness to physical damage such as the lucidians. This of course, as I previously mentioned IF there is even a warrior archetype in Hallifax. Besides, Shiri, if you specialize a Trill, remove it of 4 int and give him 4 strength and toy with them like that they'd be proper for Warriors. Charisma -3 for +3 Cont. As for them being Aeromancers, YES THEY ARE 100% APT TO BE AEROMANCERS THANKS TO THEIR INNATE ABILITY OF FLIGHT AND FLIGHT REGEN. I never implied the opposite...

The point being that unlike the water/taint/forest regions, where anyone can fight (albeit more riskily), not everyone can fight in air, only trill, faelings, Moondancers (PFF, and lose most of our Fae), Nihilists, and Celestines. So it's not like any close combat is going to be engaged in there.
Yes, Trill would be Aeromancers. Yes, Lucidians should be guardians. But the point is, they're both equally useless as warriors. You don't need a good blunt resistance to be a warrior any more than you do a mage. In fact, being a warrior with the huge health bonuses they get actually offsets the blunt weakness more than being a guardian would, and we've already ascertained that trill are more likely to be mages and Lucidians guardians(if you argue that they both are, then both are likely to be warriors and guardians too), so for want of any discerning factor as to which would be the better warrior, i.e a good strength for one of them (and Merian are originally as good as Lucidians, and Elfen only one better (one less than Trill)) it seems logical that both would.

Take a look at a Merian. If they don't join a Paladin, and wish to become a warrior... they are screwed with their current stats. It is thanks to their specialization that a Merian becomes proper for a warrior archetype. The same can be for a Trill, because a trill, even when it doesn't have stupendous advantages it isn't terribly handicapped for physical performance... So of course their current stats aren't stupendous for their role as warrios, that is why I said IF (by chance their happens to be a warrior class), a trill would do much better than a Lucidian upon receiving a stat specialization. That was my point.
Regarding Mages, can only a Merian become an Aquamancer? No. Though only the Merian can naturally experience the privilege of the water element, the same exact thing could be for the Trill. Air would be the element of the Trill, not doubt about that... but still any race could be able to become an Aeromancer, and Lucidians would do okay in such specialization, though they wouldn't really be receiving a stat alteration. Their stat alteriation for specialization would undoubtedly, imo, come with the Lucidian's speciallization as a Guardian.
But for the sake of avoiding argument... I take everything I previously said as void. Pay no attention from what I said, and I retreat myself from this discussion.

Magic protection makes them more suitable to fight wiccans and guardians, not mages.
Azeal2005-03-19 23:37:03
I voted for both of them, if the place is to do well you will need to let both of them specialize.
Someone should make a poll like this for Glomdoring also...
But I'm just looking forward to Hallifax and Glomdoring. Just hope we get maybe 2 or 3 more villages first.

Except Amaru's statement doesn't have any basis in fact as far as anyone except him can tell.

Lies! Non-truths! And have I mentioned that I'm a Merian Serenguard?

Good lord, imagine the damage Murphy will do to a Lucidian.
