What I am saying, all I want is this. If I spot a dreamweaver in a room, either spying, or irritating me by making me sleepier, I want to have a *chance* to kill them. I don't want to invoke indigo, and them know they are spotted and run away, only to return a few seconds later. I don't want to invoke violet, and have them just instantly bodysnap and return a few minutes later. I want a small chance to kill the irritant. Currently there is no real risk when dreamweaving. It should carry some risk, entering enemy territory carries risk. Even phase had some risk, because they could pull you out of phase, then kill you.

They CAN enter rooms with eye sigils. Eye sigils currently do not inhibit movement at all. They however, CANNOT pass through doors, so stockrooms are safe.

*gasp
I thought it was a bug and was repaired after shops got robbed.
So, they can enter a room with eye sigil, follow you without you knowing it (?), pick up items while incorporeal, also unnoticed (?)... I don't like it at all. Unless I'm wrong. Am I?
Unknown2005-03-22 02:32:06
Eye sigils stop them from using envelop to pick things up, or coalescing into physical form in the same room with you.

There might not be a lot of risk (though I've died a few times in dreamform), but there's also barely any reward either. As cool a skill as it is, my initial assessment of the utility is extremely lacking.
Unknown2005-03-22 02:34:15
Ah, so stockrooms are quite safe...
However, an idea that my stockroom isn't my personal safe room (if I protect it right of course) is still disturbing...

Dreamweaving needs to be fixed, Inquisition did no damage to Munsia while she was asleep.
Unknown2005-03-22 02:36:55
Inquisition doesn't do damage? I thought it just stripped all defenses, and stunned you for like 8 seconds.

I heard you died, due to carcer. That sounds like a bug, however, you could have just bodysnapped.
Unknown2005-03-22 02:38:07
It has done 2000 damage, to both a Guardian and a Knight I used it against.

I couldn't bodysnap as Carcer knocked me off balance long enough for everyone in the room to kether me to death.

Which sounds like a bug, the carcer blocking you from leaving. And you should have just bodysnapped when spotted, rather then trying to walk out.

It's not the fact that I died that bothers me. I was expecting to die going in, I was testing something. But the fact that they could so easily detect me, forcing me to have the NEED to Bodysnap or run in the first place, as a Transcendent Dreamweaver, bothers me. It's not as though Dreamweaving is one ability in a larger skill. It's an entire skill that you're basically saying I should forfeit the use of immediately when someone detects me, and it's already been shown that it's really easy to detect a dreamweaver.

You should never have a skill that says, "Ok, so-and-so is at blah."

Except for thirdeye, scry, scan, and all the other skills that already do that. Slyphas, you really should take a step back from turf-defensive-mode and try to see from another viewpoint; you're really not coming across as very objective here.
Sylphas2005-03-22 03:02:01
And you just compared finding the location of every dreamform in an area to the abilities we have that allow us to find corporeal people. If they're just as easy to detect, WHAT IS THE POINT?
I'll stop being defensive when dreamweaving has been given a bit more than a few days. People don't even know what all we can do with, and you're all bitching already. I usually try to be objective, but in this case I'd like to actually try out the skill before people whine about it. Give it time.

Some more thoughts to turn dreamweaving away from direct combat and more towards dreams than ghosting:
- A (high-level) skill to bring people into the dreamworld without realizing it. If they have none of the dreamweaver skills they can do nothing but move until they realize and wake up. There is no @ in the prompt to give it away. They can still speak/emote, but no-one except other dreamweavers will see it.
- A seperate dreamscape area to represent entering 'dreams'. Maybe a way/quest to affect global dreams in this area, with those manifestation things?
- A defence to grant other people which makes good dreams wear away afflictions but in exchange they don't grow any less tired and find it very difficult to wake up.
- A skill to heal the health of others while in dream form.
- A skill to summon sleepers.
- A skill to enter the mind of a sleeper (not possess) and keep them asleep via a battle of wills. Similar to something I think Desdemona suggested.
- A skill to make a victim daydream to think they are in the room your body is, like an uber-hallucination that lasts until cured.
- A sleepwalking affliction that makes a victim randomly move while asleep.
- A skill to battle your way into a sleeping mind which if successful lusts you to them without notification (except in the case of failure). In combination with a skill to send sleeping hallucinations to mutual allies.
Even the best skills can get better.

I think the worst skills should be the ones getting better first, .
As for summoning a sleeper? No. If you want to mess with them, you can bloody well walk to them.

As for how easily they could detect you, this isn't really the case unless the person has near trans lowmagic/highmagic. Both indigo/violet at in the fabled -> mythical range of lowmagic. Furthermore, you wouldn't need to run if you were just against one person. Munsia can drain back health as fast as I can dish it out with Violet. However, you were hit by a group of people... and thus, you died fast. This tends to apply to all situations.

You forget one thing, you can sip health/mana. Dreamformed people can't. Casting costs in dreamform are mainly all willpower, very quickly they will run out of will. Bad things happen when you run out of will.
Daganev2005-03-22 08:41:09
All you need to detect who is using dreamweaving on you is a simple guardian or mage spell.
