QUOTE(Thorgal @ Mar 25 2005, 10:42 AM)
I HIGHLY doubt possess was designed by the Administration to force people quitting their city and guild, or reading 700 posts simultaneously.
You're doing a bad job weasling out of it, what you've done is just childish .

No, like I said, it was obviously NOT designed to make people quit city or outcitizen. Otherwise it would be possible to do it, and as I've tested, it is not. As for the post reading, that's precisely what the skill is for. Trust me. I've been issued on it, and each time the the issue came in my favour without my needing to even speak to anyone about it.
It's hardly childish to gather information from your enemies. It's what the skill is -for-.
Shiri2005-03-25 16:20:25
You're right, Thorgal does complain about usable skills he doesn't have, but for once he's right. Perhaps you do have to be an idiot, but take the scenario presented. Lots of fairly new people are going to be classed as "Idiots", then, because there's no stealing rules (not novices is I think as far as they're enforced) and for plenty of people they just won't know how to get out of that.

Y'know, I wonder. Did I just forget that I in fact posted that part of your quote as a complete sentence, then edit it to what it is now, or are you completely ignoring what I actually said?

Dunno, I said we can assume that the leader of an organization represents it, and you answered, no we can't..

You would have to be REALLY slow(or AFK, if you are, well you deserve it for breaking the rules anyway) to be stolen from this way. How many brain cells does it take to say, ummm I just dropped my pack full of gold... I should pick that up.
Thorgal2005-03-25 16:27:48
No Hajamin...Soll and Nayl already posted logs to prove how abusable possession is. He easily took all her vials and tarot cards in one go.

And how many shops have been cleared out via ghost? Should we nerf that too?
Veonira2005-03-25 16:30:43
Robbing with possess is a joke. Hajamin is dead on. You have to be seriously stupid, or AFK, to be robbed with possess. I mean, unless you are possessing someone with your body right there that you can have them hand everything to, which is the only way I can see anyone becoming a victim of it. Preventing abuse is a great idea, but going insane and thinking of every single hypothetical situation, no matter how ridiculous it is, is a tad neurotic. But that's just me.
If you were a dreamweaver, you'd realize how difficult it is to put anyone with a brain to sleep. And the people who don't know learn quickly. So unless we have start having groups of highway robbers, possess is not something we need to worry about for theft.

Well, true, metawake easily stops every attempt at possession by amateurs. But you can still make people with kafe and insomnia up, fall asleep every 2 seconds, even if they wake up immeditaly after due to kafe or metawake. If you time it right, you'll be able to get to sleep anyone long enough to possess, cause they WILL fall asleep, through insomnia, metawake and kafe, by increasing their natural tiredness, no defence stops falling asleep by it.
And Hajamin, ghosts can't go through doors and they can't follow anyone, dreambodies can't go through doors anymore now, but that didn't stop them from robbing empty all our stores when they did, though robbing shops isn't the issue with possession now is it.

Hajamin2005-03-25 16:42:53
The robbing shops was a bug, and it was delt with. Robbing of players, I think has already been explained to you how hard it is to accomplish. You seem to enjoy complaining too much.
Thorgal2005-03-25 16:43:43
I only live to complain! But it's weird I always turn out right isn't it? Just take a look at the log will ya..
And it hasn't been explained to me how hard it is to accomplish, because it is not hard to accomplish, there isn't a single person alive that will not fall asleep against a dreamwalker, no matter his defences, all you can do is wake up as fast as possible.
Also, the log showed how easy it is to rob someone..

Funny, I can't remember a single time you have been right... Remeber how terrible karma was, you quit because of it... Your back now, guess you were wrong.
Thorgal2005-03-25 16:49:36
It's still terrible, Achaea is just worse, and I'm addicted to IRE.
I can't remember a single time you were right either by the way.
Good job on avoiding the point as well, aren't you gonna prove to me how hard it is to possess someone? Some defence I overlooked that protects from falling asleep by the natural fatigue dreamwalkers can swiftly increase?

If. After going through more than one forced attempt at putting you to sleep, you are still standing there, you are an idiot. Get up, use a non-cardinal exit, and the dreamwalker can't reach you. Congratulations, you are the win.
Thorgal2005-03-25 16:53:46
Okay, suit yourself, it won't matter anyway, the only difference by not accepting possess as it is as being overpowered, now, is it'll just get downgraded later. I call all dreamweavers to abuse it, the sooner the better.

MOVE! Bloody 'ell. It is NOT DIFFICULT TO AVOID. Just don't be AFK, and don't be an idiot! Spend less time whining on the forums so you can pay more attention to people slumbering you maybe.
Shiri2005-03-25 16:58:07
I don't think it's Thorgal or I that're in danger of being robbed. It's other people who don't really know what's going on, and all the rest of it.
Thorgal2005-03-25 16:58:27
A dreamwalker can do this during a spar or duel, or fight, or battle for influence, or whatnot...as the log proves, again. First it was, "run or die", cause they're "obviously", according to hajamin, at an advantage, and now it's "run or get robbed"?
And please, if even Shiri is defending my point, that's a serious indication I'm not a lunatic.

Right. I really see myself POSSESSING someone during influencing. Oh wait, no I don't. Given the fact that, hmm, most people go around in groups. So you need to not only put someone to sleep, which would most likely be impossible, but do it in front of other people who can probably find out who the dreamweaver is pretty fast and kill you, or kill you after you jump out of the body. The only way you could give narcolepsy is if they're in your demesne already, or if you puncture them first and then throw a mote. Do you see what I'm saying? That's a ridiculous situation that would NEVER happen. And if it did happen, whoever it was should probably be pretty damn embarassed.
You're not going to get robbed, Thorgal.
And also, some people really can't defend themselves from anything. I mean, we might as well get rid of all offensive skills because they might be used on someone who doesn't know what it going on. People live and learn.
: Hmm, I remember being robbed blind on Achaea. It wasn't the end of the world. Really, it wasn't, I PROMISE you.
Shiri2005-03-25 17:21:23
Robbing is a lot worse than killing, Veonira, so the offensive skills argument doesn't really hold much weight.

I've been given afflictions (like stupidity) and put to sleep by dreamweavers. I've never gotten any form of message. Just one time I went to sleep, and you almost immediately possessed. I now have it set to outr kafe;eat kafe when I log in, and if I fall asleep from exhaustion, sleep on my own/stupidity, or forced in anyway, I wake;stand.
It's really not that hard to avoid possession in the FIRST place, if you're smart about it. But, Hajamin, still. If I had dreamweaving, I could go to sleep in, say, Celest's bank. Say I wasn't enemied. I move s;e, possess Joebob, and use a nifty alias. {w;#loop 100 {drop deck;drop card;drop vial;drop gold;remove backpack;drop backpack;e;kick guard} followed by removing myself from the body, w;n, go back to my body, s;e and proceed to grab everything. =\\
Maybe it's just me that sees the great opportunity for theft, in comparison to pooka/demon, one of which goes through deaf, one that doesn't, and only works every 8 or so seconds, that's 1 command per go. But Dreamweaver's possession is easily avoided. I just sleep in my guildhall, now.
On a random aside, if like, 4 people jump a god with fire down (Say in the arena), abjure sleep, could a dreamweaver possess their body? That'd be awesome. Wonder if things like truefavour, zap, etc would go through.
