Come on.. Can we please NOT highjack this topic? People have shown they agree with it, but even if it is a good idea, what Coder would want to wade through the highjack posts in order to find more input on the idea?

And? I'm fairly certain Jalain would be kicked out of the Serenwilde if I had him go spiking for the karma from Spectres. And let's set aside the fact that he wouldn't last very long with the amount of HP he has, and without Puella, unless he has about 20 health vials on him.
But let's put aside those arguments. Not everyone is hack and slash, kill kill kill. Why should they be forced to either bash anyway, wait for hours for quests to reset, or make the tedious (no offence to the builders) walk around the Basin again and again in order to collect maybe 5 or 6 pilgrims?

Estarra and Roark gave us an awesome system in Influence, and I would personally like to see it used as a more 'mainstream' form of leveling.

Heh, paranoid! I think that was his point. That he can bash rather than influence, for much more gain. And it shouldn't be that way.

And if I'm wrong, well, I make that point then. tongue.gif

I think you should get a tiny amount of karma for all influencing, not just empowering. Like quite a few people I know end up begging instead of complimenting.

You don't consider wiping out an entire population of undead miners and guards initiating combat?

Is it more so than, say, bringing furrikin farmers back and forth between Estelbar and Acknor? In terms of village quests, it's identical to that. But it sure sounds more like an act of war when the dwarves start howling on the city/commune aetherwave, doesn't it? This is just an imbalance in the design of the quests.

I dont do the spike quest. I just kill them and offer them to Lisaera and sometimes Fain. I was comment when you said that since you were a faeling you could empower guards easily. Whereas I am also a faeling and I call kill things easier than I can influence.

Was at expert, but forgot it all cause I couldnt influence anything
Faethan2005-03-26 19:46:37
Seriously? I have 17 charisma and Virt influence, I can influence pretty much anything.

I don't know what those things are, but I can influence Queen Maeve in Faethorn in approx. 12 hits, with no defenses, just a bromide vial. Did you alternate attacks?
Soll2005-03-26 23:46:11
Trueheart and Demesne both boost the power of influencing.
Jalain2005-03-27 03:16:58
I had the same trouble, but then I read Ialie's guide and worked out what influence type to use with that analyze message. Now I win every influence battle, even against big named MOBs.
That's what I wanted my website to be.. a site with hints on how to get certain things to work, or to work better.

CODE

Type:            Personality best used on:
-----            -------------------------
Seduction   -   an extremely sensuous disposition.
Empower     -   a brave soul.
Weaken      -   a greedy bugger.
Charity     -   a friendly disposition.
Paranoia    -   an intimidating demeanor.

Shiri, I don't suppose you could delete all the highjack posts? Please?
Faethan2005-03-27 04:34:55
That table's very helpful, thanks. On topic, I think all the influence types should get moderate amounts of karma (perhaps a little less than the offering equivalent) but that empower should get extra, perhaps twice the offering equivalent.
Shiri2005-03-27 12:05:26
Hm, I'm confused, why would empowering get twice? If that were the case, it should be like...uhm...offering to empower shrines of the City/Commune patron would...give you more karma. Y'know.
Faethan2005-03-27 18:58:22
Empowering should get extra because making others stronger is obviously good karma. I suggested the others get less to balance it out.

I love influencing, and I think this is a great Idea. I also think that there should be some way to influence and get essesnce to your god of choice.

Love it. I'm thinking "convert" influence battles
Unknown2005-03-28 01:30:15
All influence battles should get you karma, except maybe city influence battles.

And you'd probably have to be in an Order in order to influence for a particular divine, or maybe a SWEAR ALLEGIANCE TO (God)... too easy to constantly switch allegiances otherwise.
