Glomdoring IC and Gloriana OOC: just so those people who argue that Gloriana would not end up a certain way is proven wrong when, about 3 months after its opening, sinks into the normal Forestal mode.
Xenthos2005-03-28 01:41:59
Oops. I voted for Gloriana IC and Glom OOC, but meant Gloriana IC and OOC.
I would really like to see something such as Cronnacht was talking about... really, I think Glomdoring and Gloriana would be almost exactly the same, just one has the crutch of saying "We're tainted" to fall back on.
EDIT: This vote changed. ~Shiri~

Gloriana IC because Shamarah would oppose the expansion of the taint; he doesn't really care about the forests all that much, but he'd prefer an untainted forest to a tainted one. Glomdoring OOC because I think it'd be cool and give Serenwilde more of a polar opposite to fight.

I've done this before but here we go.
I am for Gloriana OOC because in my years of gaming/reading experience I've seen the Undead/Corrupted Forest bit done quite a few times. Ravenloft, Darkenwood(Dragonlance), Myth Dranor (Forgotten realms), Memory,Sorrow, and Thorn, etc. (I realise this does not hold true for other people, I'm speaking only for myself.)
I'd really like the oppurtunity to play a prime-evil, Druidic/Celtic styled setting (think the clash of the native cultures of the Britsh Isles vs. the Roman Empire), combined with traditional Celtic faery myth (Screw Disneyfication). If you look at Celtic faery myth even the 'nice' beasties aren't so nice. The 'good ones' are mischevious to point of being cruel. The 'bad ones' are down right viscious. If you take a close look at the history of the Celtic peoples they were a hard group of individuals, they lived hard, loved hard, fought hard, and died hard. A blending of traditional celtic religion, society, myth, and Lusternia's own unique setting piques my interest.

See, the only problem with that, is that thats how it looks to me Serenwilde was suppose to be, but that did not happen. Serenwilde is suppose to be self-serving, British isle vs Roman empire and hating the cities with a passion of cleaning up the basin. It lasted a whole of 5 minutes.

Cause you know, free will got when the closed beta stopped.

It's still there, but we got stuck with the Glomdoring and the Ackleberry people too. Think how you'd be dealing with things if they had started with Magnagora, Glomdoring, and Serenwilde, and you had all the Celestians in there because it was the only city.

Almost but not quite. Serenwilde seems to me like it was set up to be very Tolkienish, very Loth-Lorien like. Seren is Seelie vs. Gloriana's Unseelie.
Another reason I want to see Gloriana, Centaurs as a playable race.
Shiri2005-03-28 01:55:35
Why would centaurs be any more of a Gloriana playable race than a Serenwilde one?
Unknown2005-03-28 01:56:58
The mjor issue we have in Serenwilde is not to do with us giving up and going to liking cities. I for one, and I know a lot of others, would love to just say " the cities, they can all die" and start a campaign of violence to tear you all down.....reality of the situation, every single serenwilder would end up dead, and we wouldnt survive as a commune.
oh and I voted Gloriana, because I would really love to see the forest hating Serenwilde for reasons other than just being tainted

Silvanus2005-03-28 01:57:07
Because the centuars were originally in Gloriana, they moved to Serenwilde.
Shiri2005-03-28 01:57:39
Oh. Okay.
Daganev2005-03-28 01:58:22
Loth-Lorien is how I see Ackelberry. Afterall, they prefered to seperate themselves from existance.
Shiri2005-03-28 02:03:54
I dunno. I don't think any thing of primarily Furrikin and Igasho can be that mystic and Loth-lorien like. Let alone with the spirit of "Sister Lake" (or, well, "Sister River.") Spiritbond her and you'll see what I mean. Hmm.
Unknown2005-03-28 02:07:00
Continuing the hi-jack. I see Ackleberry more like Valinor. No one dies or grows old, every one is happy and cheery, every one stands around holding hands and singing.
Xavius2005-03-28 05:43:21
I voted Gloriana IC and OOC, mainly for reasons noted above.
If Glomdoring comes around, the communes are going to ally themselves with their urban counterparts just for the sake of survival. Good luck uprooting that one. If Gloriana comes around, I picture the two communes standing together for defense and trade. Celest will get run through since it'll suddenly be standing alone, and that won't be any fun, but at least it allows for some kind of transient politics.

I agree, Cron. I don't know how Ackleberry could even come close to being compared to Tolkien's lothlorien though. Valinor as Ackleberry is a bit of a stretch, I'd see Lorien as inspiration for Serenwilde as well, while the rest of 'heaven' is a bit diverse for Ackleberry.

All I have to say, for the naysayers who say Gloriana would never work, look at Ithaqua. That is an example of it working properly. Ithaqua is Anti-Magick, which prior had been the "Good" or "Zealous" is perhaps a better word, side of Imperian (Antioch, religious extremists, magick haters is how I'd describe them). However, the roleplay is fantastic, revolving around a very rough, foreboding, and cold forest, where cannibalism is a necessity, the Sacrament of the Flesh is their most prized ritual, every part of the body of the fallen foe and friend alike is used, nothing is left unused. A very pragmatic culture in a way. Worshippers of the Lord of Madness and the Lord of Death make their home there, among others. This is how Gloriana would end up, not this weird notion that Gloriana would end up as more of the same.
Anyway, I'm saying Ithaqua has more in common with Gloriana then it does with Glomdoring, and it worked perfectly. I personally believe Glomdoring would be the one more likely to fail in its goal and concept, its ties would be to close to Magnagora, and it would end up far too city like.

I voted Gloriana IC and Glomdoring OOC.
Icly is ofcourse because I'm a serenwilder, oocly I want it because I want to see a struggle between Serenwilde and glomdoring. Serenwilde should be trying to clean Glomdoring to Gloriana while Glomdoring tries everything to prevent that. you would get some sort of siding like Serenwilde and Celest VS Glomdoring and Magnagora for defense. Though again oocly there might be a problem with one side being to powerfull. Though currently I like Celest as an underdog, beeing attacked constantly on their own doorstep. It should make great RP
