I'd like to see demesnes have more strategics to them. From what I've seen, and admittedly I've never been a mage so I could be skewed, but once it's created you can almost simply "turn everything on and watch". I know I've heard tales of mages killing people and not even realizing it. I don't have a simple idea of how to change it that way, mind you, but if they were going to be overhauled, I'd want to see them made a little less automatic.
Note: I don't mean to suggest a demesne by itself can kill a skilled fighter without the mage making creative tactical use of additional skills. I just mean that there's room for improvement in making there be some tactics in setting up the demesne in the first place. Make tradeoffs and choices instead of making it so there's little reason not to just turn on everything, for instance.
(Edit: I'm not the person who voted no, just in case anyone thinks I'm responding to the post above me.)

the Hartstone demesne more than any other. at least with the Geomancer (and most likely Aquamancers too, since they are similiar) demesne you need to get your timing right and everything. Hartstone slap up demesne affects in any order at any time. Sit back and let it do their work. You can kill people without even flowing to them at all. I mean c'mon a demesne that does a good amount of passive damage AND passive afflictions!?
Shiri2005-03-29 01:52:39
The Hartstone demesne doesn't do a good amount of passive damage. You just have to chervilwhore when the vine hits you, and you're like, set. :/ That stupid passive tree-bringing is ANNOYING though. If it weren't for that it'd be quite a bit worse, I think.
Silvanus2005-03-29 01:53:45
600 damage is 200 less then Geomancers. About 400 more then Aquamancers.

Anyway, I agree with what Amaru has said in other threads. Upgrade active effects, put more control in the hands of the fighter, and downgrade passive effects. Passive effects make for boring combat anyway, whereas active attacks are much more interesting and fun for the person using them.

Aquamancer demesne has the jellies stinging + stunning for about 350 and choking water for about 150-250. You're also only sipping for 50%.
Revan2005-03-29 01:58:04
Passive hunger isn't too bad, if you think about it. It only sucks if your fight lasts for more than 10 minutes, or if you go into battle hungry. Consciousness negates the most useful effect of hunger, and simple healing takes care of the puking. I hardly ever rely on hunger in any case. If Ur rune could make people hungry, then yes, I would say the poison gas needs a downgrade.
Thorgal2005-03-29 01:59:39
Geomancer demesne throws you unconscious from hunger in less than a minute, from fully satiated.
Unknown2005-03-29 02:00:40
Tuek, the only skill I've said that needed downgrading that I can remember is spores, and it got downgraded. And serpent, which was ruled to be a bug. Otherwise you're just quoting yourself.

Well, to be fair, most people don't use dilute. They KNOW it's evil.

Or if you're tiny. Don't forget size affects hunger.

Poison gas is the best effect of Geomancer demesne.
Revan2005-03-29 02:03:38
Hmm, never knew that size affected hunger
Silvanus2005-03-29 02:04:01
Edited.

Better hide from the Mods Silvanus.

I would love to have more control over my skills. I think I am one of the few mages that regularly fight without a demesne, so any upgrade to what I can do without a demesne would be great to me.
Thorgal2005-03-29 02:05:36
Tuek was right when he said geomancer demesne is the most powerful demesne in Lusternia. Though hartstone demesne surpasses it by far IF you add in active effects like sap and darkseed.

If you were a woman, I would give you a hug. Since you are not, a handshake will have to do.

Hrmmm.. the mods aren't censoring Silvanus' (my) image?
Shiri2005-03-29 02:10:39
:/ I have no idea whether it should be censored or not. Silvanus, can ya get rid of it please, so I don't have to ask and up your warning thing if you're wrong?
