What makes you think we aren't already? We're all dead, stuck in some kind of a matrix-esque thingy.

That's old news Richter. I've known this for a long time, for I am the one cool.gif . This I know because I'm a bad actor and can say really retarded things while maintaining my sexy appeal to alllll the ladies out there. Oh yes, it is true...

blabbity blah blah blah. Just cause you step down from a religious post doesnt mean youre saying "oh well, god stopped talking to me, time to get another pope" youre still there to guide someone whos physically capable of doing what needs done.. hes got tons of puppets whats having one officially gonna matter? -.-

Sorry to be rude, but you are demonstrating a complete ignorance of the Catholic church and its customs.

My heart hurts to see the Pope in failing health. As a former catholic school girl, I have an intense respect for him.

I can't help but hope that the some church policy will change, however. Such as how priests accused of sexual offenses are punished as well as the stance of the church regarding the Holocaust and the remaining survivors of the same.

All you're really able to say to something like that is "Whoa..."

*snicker*

And yes, Etain, we could likely see some interesting reforms in the Catholic church. Us Lutherans have already done it, just a few hundred years ago. tongue.gif Catholics have yet to catch up.

Regardless of your religion, it has to be said that this Pope has really done a lot. He's travelled and met so many more people than any other Pope, he's become a diplomat of peace, not just trying to spread the message of his religion but genuinely trying to make things better.

I think he really has used the swing and reach of his office to give a lot of people hope, and it's further impressive that he's chosen to keep coming out and showing himself even when his health is that bad, just because he knows a lot of people will appreciate it.

Simply - he's a good person, and deserves respect, and if this is going to be it for him, a peaceful death.

Ehhh... hes HOW old again? There are a lot of bishops in the Catholic church, once a man gets so old he cant stand and such for more than a short period of time he needs to hand it over to someone who can. When youre a 'long term' leader like that I dont think you should be allowed to lead if not physically fit to do so.. besides if you step down the guy who comes after you will then have you to look to for guidance for a while instead of *pope croaks* *bishops argue over who gets to be the next pope* *next pope is named and has nobody but some bishops who havent been pope to advise him*

-shrug- Thats just my two cents. I wish him all the best (despite my distaste for his church).

Actually, the bishops wouldn’t be arguing over who becomes the next Pope. There are two other lines of command above Bishops, including first the Archbishop, and the Cardinals. Out of the handful of Cardinals, a new Pope is elected. Anyways, I’m not even Catholic so it really matters little to me. Just my two cents...

I heard about it while I was at work. And how could someone even think it would be an April Fools joke. That would be completely disrespectful, and if anyone actually did that you could bet they would get their asses kicked real hard by the rest of the world...or at least by me.

My prayers and thoughts are with the Pope, especially considering the fact that I'm a Catholic myself.

Im amazed that people even hijacked a thread about the leader of the largest religious organization on earth dying...

Aye, I'm a Deist, or I believe that's the most appicable term for one who believes in a Judeo-Christian God but not nessicarily Judeo-Christion dogma or scripture. (I never really bothered to look up a term that applies, I know what I believe, no need to put a label on it.) I don't look at the bible or any other scripture looking at who wrote it or what religion believes in it, I look at it to see what lessons it can teach us. It's the same way with my opinion on clergy, I don't judge them by their position in a religous hierarcy, but by who they are.

That being said, Pope John Paul is a good man, regarless of whether he is Pontiff or not. As such we should wish him the best in wherever he is going, and mourn our loss of such a wonderfull person.

Largest religion is Islam.
Drago2005-04-02 07:50:22
Silvanus - 1
Akraasiel - 0

I heard that he died a short while ago and, while it was bound to happen, I guess people are going to be sad and stuff like that.
Silvanus2005-04-02 07:54:34
Did he die? Everyoen in America is asleep so I get no news coverage.
Unknown2005-04-02 08:06:46
Did he really...? sad.gif

I can't imagine how tomorrow will be for people..
Drago2005-04-02 08:08:56
The same as today, no doubt.
Silvanus2005-04-02 08:10:02
He hasn't died yet.

The Vatican is going to be giving out a statement in about an hour and a half, so we have no idea.

Reasonably, you could demand that different branches of Christianity should be considered different religions, but if one were to do that, one would also have to seperate Islam into its component branches as well, as well as every other religion.

Anyway
Shiri2005-04-02 10:00:49
Okay, I recognised most of those, but what are "Tenrikyo" and "Zoroastrianism?"
Unknown2005-04-02 10:08:20

Lutheran =! Catholic.
Sunni is close to Shiite.
Thats why I consider Islam the largest religion
