In your opinion. And the opinion of other Christians, but not of others.
This is a great example of how you can't generalise beliefs even by classes such as Christianity.

How can you call Zoroastrism the first monothiestic religion when it clearly believes in two seperate gods, one god for good and one god for evil?, a God that created the top half of your body and another god that created the bottom half of your body?
89184
Possibly because it is monotheistic? You're making the same assumption that someone in the future could make about Christianity. There are two dieties but onlt one god. The second is recognized as a powerfull being but not worshiped as a god. Just as Akraasiel said that's like someone looking at Christianity and claiming that Satan is a god.
Shiri2005-04-04 20:07:07
Except that Akraasiel claims Satan IS a god.

Aye, but Akraasiel isn't Christian, she's allowed her own beliefs. However someone saying that Christians believe that Satan is a god is incorrect, within the constrainst of Christian beliefs.
Shiri2005-04-04 20:12:34
You mean HE is allowed HIS own beliefs.
Daganev2005-04-04 20:15:50
No you see, in Christain mythology, god created Satan as an angel, and the angel rebels or something.
In Zorastrinsm you have two Divine beings. Ahura Mazda, the god of pure goodness who no evil can come from, who will be the judge in the end of days, and Angra Mainyu the dark evil spirit where all evil comes from. The top half of your body, where you head and heart live was created by Ahura Mazda, while the bottom half of your body, where sexual desire and defication sit, was created by Angra Mainyu.
It is up to humans to decide which one they will follow, and the story goes that in the end of days Mazda will destroy Mainyu, so they 'highly suggest' you follow Mazda since he's going to win anyways.
Monothiesm, however is the idea that there is a single god, who created both good and evil, who is the source of both good and evil and its 'highly suggested' you act good so that the world we live in will become a more good place. There is no cosmic battle that humans are just a small part of in monothiesm. There are personal battles that each person is a part of, but no cosmic conflict between two equally powerfull gods.

You're not opperating under the full definition of Monotheism. There is something called Inclusive Monotheism, or Henotheism, which is a form of Monotheism. It is belief in, and possible worship of, multiple gods, one of which is supreme.
As such, Zoroastrianism is the first monothestic religion as it's followers worshiped only one god who was supreme, though they believed in more than one, as apposed to the Pantheon of gods struggling against each other for power as in previous religions.

Allright, Zorastriansm was the first monotheism, assuming ofcourse that 'Don't drink and drive' Means that you should not drink soda while driving.
As for Zorastrianism influencing Judaism, thats like saying Christianity influenced Judaism. It did, just not in the way that the statment initially implies. I find it ironic that when Jewish sources state very clearly what is from what source, that people insist on giving extra or alternative sources as if the source of the idea needs to be hidden.

Shiri2005-04-05 00:15:24
Go away!
EDIT: Although I don't know who, what, where or when Mardi Gras is so it probably involved no partying at all. But I hate Sailor Moon.
