You can summon anywhere. And even if you break the center, doesn't mean the demesne is broken, just means the center is moved to a room next to it.

Hmm, I'm fairly sure that whenever my demesne center is broken, ALL forest I had ever created is gone. Whether it is part of the current demesne or not. I have to keep reforesting Avaerin quite often for that very reason.

Well, unless it is normal for all forest you created to coincidentally decay after about a month when your demesne is being broken. It has happened many, many times. I don't really defend my demesne's very well.
