Aslarans.

Unlike in other realms, the cat race here is one of the least effective races, everything revolves around strength and tankiness, to cope with massive damage and deal it as well.

We've got 11 constitution, a level 1 sipping penalty, a level 2 fire penalty, and a level 2 waking penalty, all three penalties have massive effects on our combat ability, yet our advantage, a level 2 faster balance, has absolutely no effect, since speed knights aren't worth anything at all. An aslaran will die within moments against any kind of non-physical damage, I think my fellow kitties felt that as well, not that there are many.

So my suggestion is to give them some slight advantages, yet perfectly matching their roleplay.

syntax: GROOM
Has the same effect as cleansing or scrubbing, but costs 2 seconds of balance.

Will land on its paws instead of its head or knees (causing them to break), when falling down the sky or trees. So effectively no use for levitation enchantment anymore.

Have a 50% chance of not getting tripped by the various abilities that throw you prone, be it knockdown, demesne waves or tremors and whatnot.

Even though none of these changes will make us die less fast, we'd at least have a chance to actively hinder our opponent, cause we're not constantly getting smashed down.

PUSS IN BOOTS

1 power

Wear boots and a cute hat, stand on your hind legs, purr and make your eyes big. May make large, stronger foe leave you alone and shower you with love and credits.

COUGH UP FURBALL

Power 3

Causes incurable nausea to everyone in same room for 10 seconds.

Probably shouldn't be ALL of those things, Thorgal, but maybe one would be nice. (Don't forget us Furrikin and Faelings, above all else. dry.gif)

EDIT: The cleansing one, which wouldn't work on sap, would be better, as no levitation is beyond even mages owing to lodestone and needlerain, which would be kinda super nasty, and if as I hope demesne affects are being slowed down to what, 18 seconds?, the not-being tripped thing would be a bit off.

Furballs and flutterbies can rot in hell for all I care smile.gif.

Cats above all!

Not really realistic, considering all that fur which would be actually harder to clean... but oh well balance>realism isn't it? wink.gif

Interesting ideas. And they make sense too!

Hah. Ah, well. Guess some people could use some of that faeleaf! happy.gif

The fur is harder to clean (though not more than, say, an igasho's!), but the feline is better at cleaning to make up for it and then some. Ever feel a cat's tongue? Cats of all kinds (excepting some housecats that are that far removed from their ancestral heritage, but even including most housecats) are notoriously clean creatures.

I love the groom idea.
Richter2005-04-01 17:01:00
I love the ideas, especially the landing on your feet! I like the racial abilities, even if I, as a human, don't have any.

But how long it takes for them to clean themselves!
Gwylifar2005-04-01 18:20:04
Which is why I described it as "very long balance cost", to enforce that.

Sorry for confusion, however, am I blind or sth, I don't see where you said 'long balance cost'...
Shiri2005-04-01 18:35:01
He's suggested it a while back, not in this thread.

Once in late January, and then again early today in another thread.

Cats should land on their feet and have great balance, though that may mess up people that rely on knocking people over to trample or something.
Richter2005-04-01 23:59:55
Boo hoo?
Sylphas2005-04-02 01:06:39
Immunity to prone is way too much. When it's been an ability, it's had a nice mana drain to go with it. I doubt you want a constant mana drain for a racial ability. Groom would be cool though.
Unknown2005-04-02 01:13:38
Make it having a chance maybe? 25%, 33%, 50%....
