Okay, little known fact about Fain, I served 4 years with the US Navy in San Diego on a destroyer. I know there are quite a few players in Lusternia that are either still active in militaries around the world or have already served their respective countries.. a few stand outs that I know of are Nikua and Ixion.. but I am sure there are alot more of us veterans!
So, if you have either served your country or are still active right now, post here! Share your stories, experiences, loves, dislikes and whatever else you can think of here.

I served 8 months in the US Army, I was medically discharged about 3 weeks after entering Iraq. I was shot in my left arm, bullet pierced both my tricept and bicep, and it didn't heal properly (shot from behind by friendly fire).

What kind of benefits do you get from the VA Silvanus?
Silvanus2005-04-09 17:04:43
I get paid, monthly, as I normally can't work any job that reuqires me lifting something over 50 lbs, since my arm will have a shooting up pain.
I also get assistance in paying for higher education (right now, have a degree in History).

Yeah right now I am going to school off GI Bill and Navy college fund, pays me about 1600 or so a month (can't remember the exact amount), but helps pay for my apartment and groceries. I served from Dec 2000 to May 2004. Went to guam, thailand, singapore, oman and bahrain. Spent some time floating in the gulf launching tomahawks. On the way back went to Australia. Went various other places to, but mostly ports in the US or mexico and canada. My ship wasnt too active during most of the war because we were the platform ship for a new prototype tomahawk cruise missle.

Two years US Army, stationed in Georgia and Korea. Got out after getting a herniated disc(I think that's how it's spelled...) Still waiting on the VA to stop losing my paperwork
Fain2005-04-09 20:48:53
Ha yeah the VA sucks for paperwork.. took me forever to start getting money for school.
Where is he stationed?

They're about to get stationed in Norfolk, VA.
My parents were in the military for awhile (Mom retires this month). I'm thinking of crying to the Air Force for college money and then going to OCS when I graduate if I do decide to do that. Can't even get FAFSA money at this point because they "make too much."

I was a member of the Air National Guard for four years, to pay for college. I loved it, one weekend a month and two weeks of summer camp was worth free college and the nice benefits. I also got a ride in one of our F-16's before we deployed for Norway. Not to mention I had the honour of driving the golf cart for the base commander when he would sneak out for a round of 18 holes, so I always had kick-ass drill weekends. Go 187th Fighter Wing!

Australian Army, served 2 years firing off artilery shells......It was friggin great but I wanted to go on active overseas service.
I'm still an inactive reservist, gotta get back into shape and get back into it.
Sucks to hear about friendly fire Silvanus, never good to see a digger go down to a friendly.

Hopefully going through college at UVA, VT or West Point in Mechanical and Composite Chemical engineering, then off to serve as a career demolitions expert or ComEng. Bit early to cite any "experience" though... at least, nothing I will mention in public.

US NAVY. Gunners Mate, yes it sounds weird, but there was nothing better than playing with every gun I could get my hands on and being paid for it
Unknown2005-04-11 19:06:36
I was looking into applying for Navy BDCP program, but didn't follow through, as I didn't really want to be apart from my g/f / fiancée.
Was looking at 1st choice Cryptology, 2nd choice Intelligence.
65/9/8/9 on the ASTB.

I know it sounds like shoulda, woulda, couldas, but I was a like a week away from enlisting in the Marines out of high school, but went to college instead. After getting my degree in Accounting, I wanted to go into the Navy in an officer's program, but had a kid instead. I still kick myself sometimes for not going when I had the chance. I've always had a strong desire to serve my country somehow.

Hopefully, Nikua's getting out in a couple months. Most of you who know who he was in other games, knew he got in trouble with IRE when he was like 15, 5 years ago or so. He took care of it on his own, but the Navy is all paranoid about what he can do with computers.
We're both hoping he gets discharged, didn't realize how much the Navy was gonna suck for the relationship.

US Navy all the way. Ship out for bootcamp in July. Currently going to dive school, but I plan on taking a SEAL challenge when I reenlist in two years and making a career of it
Fain2005-04-19 04:29:26
*shudder* There was no way Navy was gonna be my career.... I enjoy my freedoms and ability to actually have relationships too much.

I'm surrounded mostly by a Navy family, and plan on going into the Navy myself. My grandpa was a Gunners Mate, my uncle Stan is a Fire Controlman, and my brother in law who I live with is a Store Keeper, and has about 7 more weeks until he's back at home. I also have an uncle who was going to be a tank commander, but he got kicked out for drugs
Edit: Ok, forget 7 weeks. My brother just called and said his ship is going to be doing some mission they just got assigned and now they have no idea when they'll be coming back into port
Random change of subject, his ship was the first one to launch tomahawk missles during Operation Iraqi Freedom, I even got a dvd of the ship launching em!
