Are Faelings balanced?

Faeries in other worlds are not really good at combat, they are good at annoying people, and hopefully good at escaping combat. It just makes sense to me that if you play a faeling, you arn't going to be good in a combat situation where you dont have people protecting you.

Actually, in my experience they have been incredibly poor at dealing with physical battles (ie, against warriors), but supremely powerful in magical/spiritual combat.
Daganev2005-04-10 04:38:25
Ahh, The impression I got from all these posts about faelings is that they suck in all combat.

If they are good in mage and guardian combat, then that both makes more sense and balances them.

Just like Tae'dae are crap in magic battles.
Elryn2005-04-10 04:40:10
Er, no, in Lusternia Faelings are crap in all combat/bashing. I was talking about Faeries in other realms.
Unknown2005-04-10 04:40:54
thats the point dag, they suck at physical AND magical battles.

Just by looking at it Roul, it seems to me they would make a pretty darn good warrior?

Krokani are inadequate. They have, in theory, great stats as a warrior. Hit hard (str 15), move decently (dex 12), good hit points (con 14).

The problem lies in their advantages and disadvantages. Those really make a race.

Krokani has just about as much bonuses as humans, but are at slower exp level 1, instead of faster exp level 3. They're weak to magic and to cutting damage, but not tough against blunt damage. They protect Level 1 against electricity (uh, just how many attacks are electrical?), and have a higher chance of seeing through illusions. Oh boy! They have a 5% chance of not being affected by STARS.

Faeling have the same problem. Good stats for what they're pretty much meant to be. But they just don't have the advantages that other races have. This is why the best races in the game, right now, are (magic-wise) Mugwump, Master Viscanti and Imperial Merian, and (fighter-wise) Aslaran, Brood Viscanti, and Dwarf.

Just my opinion. And damnit, Taurian could be so great. If there were more of them, all in the same city, and they had say, 2 more points in Dexterity.
Daganev2005-04-10 04:50:24
Ahh, I missunderstood what elryn was saying.

I don't really see a faerie being Amazing at magic combat, I see them being Amazing at being a nuisance and annoying to help those who are actually good at combat.

Some races are good so that you have a large population of them in the game, most people will pick those. But then you have the races that are there for more RP orieneted people, and thus have much smaller populations in the game world.

You don't want more faelings than elves in the world.
Xenthos2005-04-10 04:51:16
Why not? Bring on the faelings, make Elves unique!
Daganev2005-04-10 04:52:25
Because thats not Lusternia, thats Faeryville.
Elryn2005-04-10 04:52:55
But then, if there is a deliberate imbalance between specialization races and non-specialization races... shouldn't the specialization races have the biggest xp handicaps of all? Since they are overpowered?
Daganev2005-04-10 04:55:15
That would balance them.... and thus reduce thier overwhelming majority in the population.

Imagine if this was the case
HELP KROKANI
To this very day, Krokani are rare and hard to find in the basin...

HELP POPULATION
Krokani 50%....

So by choosing to play a common (and thus uninteresting) character, the administration rewards you by making you overwhelmingly more powerful than the few unusual race characters.

Yeah... score one for the diversity of Lusternian RP there. dry.gif

Edit: Even were all races completely balanced and fair, the specialization races will still be the most common by a long shot. Why? Because they are both the best suited to each class and city by their racial role AND also one of the best for all classes statistically.

Huh?

Since when is common uninteresting?

Because all White people in the world act the same and have no diversity between them right?

How can you have a racist majority if they arn't really the majority of the city?

For example, if the Ur'guard decided to be more racist and favour Viscanti in its politics, If every warrior was a tae'dae, saying that only viscanti should be the leaders of the guild makes no sense.
Faethan2005-04-10 05:07:42
Give faelings level 3 magic resistance, perhaps a slight increase to int, maybe to 16, and maybe a +10% bonus to magic damage they deal in a forest environment, to make them better in magic fights.
Elryn2005-04-10 05:09:53
I'd just prefer we implemented hover, as discussed previously, get rid of the stupid xp disadvantage, and look into charisma/dexterity actually being useful.

More is nice, but that is what I consider essential.

Disclaimer: Specific changes is not what this poll is about, merely the balance. The discussion has become somewhat more focused however.
Unknown2005-04-10 05:11:34
That's not even necessary. (In reply to Faethan)

Just give them +1 balance/equilibrium, make Size and Dexterity actually matter versus accuracy, and a magic resistance level of one, since they're part Fae. Hell, the Fae weren't effected by Taint filled with Kethuru's presense! That's got to be worth something (And shows that Elfenehoala was amazing. Wasn't she First Circle?).

You won't stop Faelings dying in 2 to 3 rounds against a damage knight, which is part of the complaints that have been raised. I would rather that Faeling have a racial ability that acts like Serpent's weaving in other games and stacks with combat skillset. Removing the exp penalty and may giving them an option to add a point to any stat at level 50 would be nice as well.

And we need to upgrade Krokani, Orclach, and Lucidian as well, no one play those races because they really suck too.
Elryn2005-04-10 05:12:54
Elfenehoala was an Awakener, like Lisaera and Auseklis.

Incidentally, I agree those other races could be looked into as well.
Desdemona2005-04-10 05:29:39
How about Taurian? They could use an upgrade, furrikins as well. By the way, I agree with the changes KidHendrix gave. I think those changes would benefit the faelings.
