Theres also only like 5 tae'dae
Unknown2005-04-10 05:43:54
Tae'dae are fine though. Especially with defensive augmentation, like Drawdown/Resilience/Stagform/Numen/Whatever the Necromancy one is called.
We're talking about imbalanced races. People obviously have played Tae'dae because it means they're tanky, aside from you... you're just um.. into the Pooh thing.

WEll my original reason was because I thought I'd be able to influence AND bash well, but it turns out Charsima means next to nil for influencing, but I remain a Tae'dae just for RP.
Faethan2005-04-10 06:26:13
If influencing is changed (I don't say fixed because an admin told me there is no bug with the way it works) that would go a long way towards improving tae'dae and faelings.

Krokani need actual advantages, as opposed to what they have right now. Their stats are fine how they are, in relation to the actual race. And a possible +1 constitution. They are giants, after all.
Taurians need +2 dexterity, and need to lose the "Slower balance level 1" disadvantage.
Orclach should get a level 3 resistance to cold, instead of 2, if they're going to keep the level 3 weakness to fire. Lose the resistance to electricity, and instead get a level 1 resistance to bashing, and a level 1 or 2 resistance to cutting.
Lucidian are actually okay. I'd give them a level 1 resistance to cutting. And make the daytime health/mana regen level 3, instead of level 2. But that might be overdoing it.

Who the hell wants to play a giant block of crystal, a stupid Orc, or a one-eyed giant when there's already Tae'dae and the specialization races that end up so much better?

But seriously, what _is_ so bad about say, a Lucidian Geomancer other than the 3 blunt vulnerability? The stats don't look too great, but ignoring dexterity (unless it's been changed a great deal), strength doesn't matter, charisma doesn't matter (normally) unless they're a Dreamweaver. Or even assuming dexterity gets improved:
LUCIDIAN STATISTICS:
Constitution: 13
Intelligence: 14
Dexterity : 10
Size : 12
VISCANTI STATISTICS:
Constitution: 13
Intelligence: 16
Dexterity : 8
Size : 13
Viscanti = +2 int and -2 dex, but as someone (Jello?) said, Geomancers don't absolutely need high intelligence since they got an instant kill. Viscanti also has +1 size, but that's debatable as to whether it is an advantage or disadvantage.
LUCIDIAN ADVANTAGES:
o Have a level 2 resistance to magic.
o Regenerate mana and health, level 2 (outdoor daytime only).
LUCIDIAN DISADVANTAGES:
o Are susceptible to blunt damage, level 3.
o Gain experience more slowly, level 1.
VISCANTI ADVANTAGES:
o Regenerate health and mana while in Tainted land, level 3.
VISCANTI DISADVANTAGES:
o Heal more slowly from elixirs, level 2.
I left out all the other Viscanti advantages that have a guild equivalent Lucidians can get. The only really bad thing here for Lucidians, considering that Geomancers can bring the Taint with them most of the time, is the level 3 blunt damage and no regeneration at night / indoors. But on the other hand, they get level 2 resistance to magic and no elixir penalty.

Make DEX and CHA do something.
Might stop Furrikin sucking too.

IRE never bothered balancing their races, there's always been races unsuited for combat in most situations, in every game.
Though while I agree that all the normal races should be somewhat balanced towards eachother, races on the edge of extinction should be inferior, and city races should always be more powerful than all other races.
Viscanti, elfen and merian should be balanced towards eachother, and every other race has to be weaker than them in basic situations, i.e. no artifacts. Otherwise you're gonna destroy one of Lusternia's unique features. If you want to balance faeling, compare them to any race BUT viscanti, merian or elfen. Those three should always remain superior. Also, don't bother comparing to races that will become city races in the future.

Like Dracnari, which is already better than some of the city races.
But I don't think races on the edge of extinction should be inferior. Nor is this in evidence for Furrikin/Faeling/Human. One Furrikin village, Faelings in Serenwilde Commune, and two Human villages. Compare that to Tae'Dae and Igasho and Mugwumps, none of which are nearly as bad as the three I mentioned. How many of THOSE do you see as non-player races?

Was talking more about krokani actually. And human certainly aren't inferior to other races, since they're the best bashing race by far.

That's what city specializations are for, so you could compare to these races in their basic (not specialized) form maybe...

Fine, use my other examples then.

Thorgal2005-04-10 12:11:01
I don't really see what's so horribly wrong with furballs or butterflies, they remind me of mhun and tsol'aa respectively, not designed for powergaming, but still decent.
Shiri2005-04-10 12:15:07
The Furrikin have no strengths. We have level one balance. Fine, but we can't be good warriors - 9 STR. And we can't be good mages/wiccans/guardians either - 12 INT and 9 CON.
And Faelings - 8 CON, so they have bother all health, really says most of it.
Compare to something like an Igasho. See, both Furball and Butterfly strengths are in Charisma and Dexterity. Problem is, neither of them DO anything. If they did, we'd be fine. (Either that or have Furrikin get 1eq instead of 1bal would work for me.

Compare most races to dracnari and dwarf...these two are by far Lusternia's best races.
The weird racial imbalances we have in Lusternia are caused by the fact that a lot of races are either exact copies from Achaea, or bastardized from Achaea. It shouldn't be too hard to tune our races, but of course not if it gets ignored like in Achaea.

True.
Main thing is though, Dracnari are way too good if they're destined to be a city-race and get even better.

There aren't as many faelings as everyone thinks. Many people will start out as faelings and be like "EWWW this is teh suck, I am getting pwned!" and switch to elfen.
