Heh, it actually does go like that a lot of the time.
I don't think anyone even BOTHERS being Furrikin though.
But that's just 'cause people think it's not as cool a race.
And no one DARE try posting Nyla's ideas here, by the way.

I don't really see what's so horribly wrong with furballs or butterflies, they remind me of mhun and tsol'aa respectively, not designed for powergaming, but still decent.

Don't be knocking the mhun, i was a mhun snake for a long time and it was pretty damn good.

Ooh, was Mhun Serpentlord till I reincarnated into Raja. >.< Mhun is better.

Silvanus suggestion to improving the races:
Orclach:
Stats: +1 Strength, about it.
Advantages: Heal faster from elixirs, level 1.
Disadvantages: -2 Suspectability to fire (instead of -3)
Igasho:
Stats: None
Advantages: Level 1 resistance to cutting (instead of 2)
Disadvantages: Level 1 slower balance recovery (instead of 2).
Krokani:
Stats: +1 Con (Total of 15)
Advantages: Resistance to blunt, level 1
Dis: No change
Taurian:
Stats: -2 Charisma, +1 Strength
Advantages: Level 2 health regen
Dis: None
Faeling:
Stats: +1 intelligence
Advantages: +10% damage in Forest
Dis: Remove exp loss
Dwarf:
Stats: -2 Dex, +1 Strength
Advantages: Remove Blunt/cutting resistance
Dis: None
Tae'dae:
Stats: No change

Dis: Level 2 slower eq

Jack's (completely biased) idea for making mugwumps a more viable choice of race:
Dex -1, Cha -3 (I imagine them as intelligent but abrasive, using their knowledge to subtly insult people and whatnot. Plus, this means their EQ bonus doesn't make them such exellent influencers), +2 con.
Advantages: No change.
Disadvantages: Make the electricity/fire susceptibility level 2 rather than 3.

Silvanus missed the Furrikin out of spite there, I notice.
And Igasho are fine, why are you downgrading them, Silvanus?

Silvanus2005-04-10 18:56:05
I upgraded Igasho, they have level 1 slower balance.
I don't know how to fix Furrikin or Dracnari. Oh, and the Taurian thing, its supposed to be -2 Cha instead of -3.

And by the way, I did not vote yet, I didn't vote for yes.
Jack2005-04-10 19:00:16
And actually make dexterity count for something.
Nokraenom2005-04-10 19:04:34
Some of the races are undeniably sub-standard, but I contend that they are intentionally this way to reflect the wanted racial balance of Lusternia, and should remain this way. Krokani, for instance, are the rarest race in the realm, according to the histories. Their inherent disadvantages make them a less desirable race to play (from a pure competitive standpoint), and thus there will be less of them.
The upside to these races is you get to have some interesting or unusual roleplay and you're largely unique. If everyone was a Faeling/Tae'dae/Furrikin/, you probably wouldn't be nearly so attracted to playing one.

Yes, but the Orclach were mainly the Ur'guard, the Taurians came in large numbers during the Taint wars... where did those numbers go? Graal was the only Orclach, then Desdemona and that guy who made the public post was the only Taurians.
Shiri2005-04-10 19:10:22
Whereas I'm about the only Furrikin around, and there's a whole damn village full of us. Thorgal already tried that one.
For Furrikin, as I say, either DEX and CHA should be made to count for something, or we should get a L1eq bonus too.
Not sure about Dracnari.

You have a good point with the Orclach, particularly for the Ur'Guard, and the Taurians as well. Perhaps the Orclach should gain a warrior specialization upon learning Necromancy, similar to Brood Viscanti, so that they are more competitive for the Ur'Guard.

I've always disagreed with the Orclach = Ur'Guard thing. After all, they get all crippled and stuff when they're Tainted. :/
Silvanus2005-04-10 19:22:40
Except, all Orclachs follow Urlach, and the only way for Orclach to become undead is to join the Ur'guard/Nihilists.
The Orclach who resisted the Taint became Liches, the Orclach who gave into it became Orcs.

Yes there is ONE village fulled with Furrikin, but there is a CITY full of viscanti and merian, and an entire FOREST full of Elves. Village < City... and not just any city, its a city thats the capital of an empire. Compare the population in Rome to the population in say...Ceasaera during the hight of the roman empire.

QUOTE(Thorgal @ Apr 10 2005, 07:11 AM)
Viscanti, elfen and merian should be balanced towards eachother, and every other race has to be weaker than them in basic situations, i.e. no artifacts. Otherwise you're gonna destroy one of Lusternia's unique features. If you want to balance faeling, compare them to any race BUT viscanti, merian or elfen. Those three should always remain superior. Also, don't bother comparing to races that will become city races in the future.

Is this a call for Elfen Lords to be balanced? I think it is.

I wasn't saying Furrikin should be equal with Elfen/Viscanti/Magnagoran.
I was saying that if you're using the argument that rarer races should be weaker, we should be better than Tae'dae/Igasho/Loboshigaru/Mugwump.
Daganev2005-04-10 20:55:08
Ahh. Its interesting because when the races were first announced, everyone wanted to be furrikin... I wonder if that has something to do with it.
Shiri2005-04-10 21:04:03
Hm. Yeah, I remember that.
But in practice, it ain't happenin'.
