Although I've suggested this before, here is what I would like to see for Faelings:
ADVANTAGES:
o Shares Elfen racial language.
o Can FLY and HOVER.
o Can hover indefinitely upon reaching Level 50.
o Regenerate health and mana while in forest environments, Level 2.
o Recover balance more quickly, level 3.
o Heal faster from elixers, level 1.
I'm calling it hover, but you could just as easily call it flutter, flit, float, etc.
Syntax: HOVER / LAND
Hovering takes a very short amount of balance (almost instantly with the level 3 balance) and must be done while standing upon the ground. Does not work underwater. The person will remain hovering for around 30 seconds, before landing automatically. While hovering they would have a 'h' in their prompt, and it represents a stance that exists between standing and flying.
- Running out of endurance will land you automatically, and you will be unable to hover.
- If you have the weakness or vertigo(?) afflictions you will be unable to start hovering.
- If a hovering Faeling becomes afflicted with total body paralysis, entangled by webs, or entangled by ropes, they land automatically, additionally become sprawled on the ground, and will be unable to hover until cured.
- Afflictions that knock the person down by affecting legs will not work on a hovering Faeling.
- Broken legs will not prevent a hovering Faeling from moving.
- All anti-summon abilities that work by rooting to the earth will not work for a hovering Faeling, nor any blocking or anti-movement abilities.
- Hovering drains the endurance slightly (after level 50 it is hardly noticeable) of the Faeling.
- A hovering Faeling has an additional 50% chance of dodging a physical blow, but they will take 15% more damage than usual if they are hit and cannot use any combat stances.
- Wind does not affect hovering because it is too close to the ground.
Optional:
- Hovering will reduce balance recovery by one level.
- Hovering will prevent falling damage like levitation.

Way to many negatives to hovering, and virtually no practical positives. Why would you want it?

50% dodging isn't positive?
Thorgal2005-04-14 09:46:27
Not being able to get knocked down and an additional 50% chance of dodging any physical blows seems pretty damn positive to me..

Add a chance that the wind produced by a sword attack sends the faeling tumbling to a random adjacent room, and makes them be stunned for a few seconds instead of giving them damage.
Or allow people to play baseball with maces and hovering faelings! Make it into an arena game!

Well, I was anticipating the usual reaction that Faelings are fine as they are and they shouldn't get anything too beneficial which would make them overpowered+. So I tried to balance positives with negatives.
The bonuses can always be improved, but its the concept that I think would be wonderful.

Heh, so 50% chance to dodge, at 15% more damage. On a faeling, that means an ability that just near kills them in one blow (which is just about everything) will miss, but when it does hit, a guaranteed kill? Heh.
I'd just say remove the dodge chance (and make dexterity work like it should), and make it just so that Faelings have the equivalent of a permanent levitation enchantment, and can move and attack normally with broken/pierced legs.

Meh, I'd prefer an active stance so that it is a choice whether you are fluttering about or standing on the ground.
Also, don't forget that hovering as I attempted it would render faelings immune to at least one demesne power. That's pretty nifty. And while you're hovering I bet you could get past walls too, might just be delayed like rubble.

Edit: Ok, so something you can turn on and off then. And you'd still be able to use stances as normal.

Imagine the sting whoring someone could do with that?

LIEK ZOMG WITH FAELING HIGH DEX AND BALANCE RECOVERY WHEN BOWS ARE INTRODUCED, FAELINGS WILL BE TEH PWNZ0R.
But seriously, this balance recovery has potential for faeling later on, but right now it just doesn't seem to do them much good.
On a side note: Why are Elfen banned from the Megalith but Faeling aren't? ;o

Dood, with this Faeling upgrade they can bash Astral like crazy and get oodles of powers! Who needs to draw from the Nexus!
Nyla2005-04-14 15:32:11
Faelings are not Elfen damnit! Elfen are below the taint. They shouldnt even be allowed to breathe!
Best class for a faeling.... guardian..

I disagree. The best class at the moment appears to be a Faeling Hartstone who takes runes.
Regeneration in your demesne, slinging runes moderately quickly, and multiple abilities to increase influencing effectiveness.
Not to mention a Faeling Nihilist is just bizarre.

+3 balance has nothing to do with being able to tank astral mobs. They would still drop like gnats.
