The faeling would be like... "My mother is Rowena. I love my momma! But she disowed me after that nasty Taint made her all ugly. But I love my momma so much that I decided to move to Magnagora and show her that I am evil and um... strong! By doing this, I'll show those pesky friends in the Serenwilde that I am not a crybaby, that I can take care of myself because I am independant, and what better place to prove this than in one of those huge and massive cities?"
Sylphas2005-04-15 02:09:33
You'd better have some damn good RP to play the daughter of a major denizen like that.

Estarra and I were hanging out in the godly haven, just talking about the race. Estarra mentioned something about their level 3 balance and I said they don't have that. So when Estarra looked and saw that they didn't, she put it in.

Hmm, now that I read over this... all sorts of suspicions begin to whir about my head.
Why were the two most inspirational divine 'just talking' about this race? Mentioning their advantages and disadvantages?
Curiouser and curiouser.
If Faelings become specialized or in any way suited to tainted Glomdoring, be prepared for treble my usual amount of forum complaining.
Unknown2005-04-15 08:27:32
I would just absolutely love to see Faelings become the specialisation race for Glomdoring. I very much doubt it happening, but that's what I want! Overall they seem too 'bad' even compared to a non-specialised Viscanti/Elfen/Merian... but still... if the specialisation was good... The low health would still be such a huge and unavoidable problem however.
I could see Dracnari specialising at Gaudiguch... it makes sense, but then Dracnari seem powerful as it is... would be a very strong city. Hallifax has the choices of Lucidian and Trill... I don't know there.. Lucidian is probably more likely... and Glom... there's nothing that seems 'obvious' for there. Make it be dark Faelings! Muahaha...

We were talking about the new race pics that were arriving, in particular the faeling since that turned out much better than expected and is one of our favourites. (I also really like the hot elfen.) And that led to discussion on if faeling was being used or not with its low CON stat and XP disadvantage. (We had already decided on what we are going to do with the ever unpopular krokani and orclach, though unfortunately that may take a long time to get done so don't bank on it for the near future.) That's when it was noticed that they didn't have the balance stat they were supposed to have.
Iridiel2005-04-15 12:11:47
Roark saying the elfen is hot... Does she have circuits anywhere?
Asarnil2005-04-15 12:32:21
No, but she has a couple of mean jumpers and switches.

Wow, thankyou for answering. And thankyou for looking at all of the races!!

Ohh... a Faeling artwork soon? I can't wait! If Faeling had always had their balance stat I don't think I'd have reincarnated... ah well... time to save up for a dagger now *laughing* I don't know if Faelings will ever be THAT great because of their low con... it is quite a disadvantage. Maybe if their sip went up another point. Very tricky to balance things... ;_;

Faeling advantages:
-can fly.
-tiny size.
-high intelligence.
-very high dexterity.
-very high charisma.
-lvl1 sipping bonus.
-lvl2 health regeneration.
-lvl3 faster balance
Faeling disadvantages:
-low constitution.
-just like about every other race, lvl1 slow exp gain.
I think that's a pretty damn good trade off for a race, most of this fuss really hasn't got any base to stand on, furrikin for example suck the shizzles compared to faeling.
Furrikin have none of the advantages, their balance recovery is three times slower, their intelligence is lower, their charisma is lower, their dexterity is lower, their size is higher and they only have 3 more con to make up for all that.
If there's a race that needs more upgrades, it's definately NOT faeling, there's whole truckloads of races that need upgrades more urgently than faelings.

The Dex bonus does nothing, the sip bonus is all that makes them remotely playable as anything remotely fighty would mean they can't do anything, the tiny size also doesn't do enough (a nice writhe, but that's it). The Intelligence is okay and the Charisma is nice... that's how things are the way I see it.
Laysus2005-04-15 14:14:50
I managed to beat a knight in a spar for the first time yesterday. It was Kelly, and it took me ages :/
Oh, and the dex does bugger all.

Elaria, you do realize a diminished faeling can writhe instantly and tumble instead of walk?
Low constitution is their ONLY specific disadvantage, and they've been more than blessed enough with advantages to easen up the pain. Oh, and dexterity does plenty, you just have to be in the right stance.

2 seconds isn't instantly
And you're assuming we have tumble.

Thorgal2005-04-15 14:19:38
Last time I hangedman'd a diminished faeling, he writhed out in less than a half a second, impale wasn't even a split second. And once you have tumble, there doesn't exist a single skill or combination able to hold a faeling in place long enough to pull off anything.
Low con is their only drawback, and with your lvl3 health regeneration in a forest (with totem) and lvl1 sipping bonus, lvl2 sipping bonus if you're an alchemist, that cannot be an unovercomable obstacle.

You said writhe instantly, that is around 2 seconds with a diminished faeling.
I've timed it, too

You can't really tumble instead of walk. I tested it, the balance time does have a minimum, you are off balance when you move for a few moments, it's not noticeably faster then an undiminished faeling, or hell even an enlarged faeling.

Which totem would that be?
If you say Tree, I'd like to point out that it only works in the presence of Sacred Trees of the Commune.
Totems != Sacred Trees
For some reason.
So, the only place you can actually bond the tree totem, and the only place it does ANYTHING, is at the actual nexus. So no, they have a level 2 regeneration.
Thorgal2005-04-15 14:26:58
Okay then, level 2 health regen.
I've seen faeling sip for 700 at a lower level than me, I sip for 400. When they're moondancers, they get the mother fae to add to their healing. A faeling moondancer or druid heals a lot faster than various other races.

faster healing is offset by a lack of initial health.
