As I said before... evil != grotesque. Look at Salvatore's drow. Extremely beautiful... in fact, one of THE hottest races ever... but they're rotten and evil to the core.

You are exactly right.

And I say more power to them. kiss.gif

At work, when on calls, there is a disclaimer you have to give.

"All care must fall within the scope of the provider's licence and meet criteria of medical nessescity."

After looking at this, I was talking to a doctor, and accidentally said nesexity. sad.gif

If any of you saw "The Passion of the Christ", one of the interesting things in the movie is how Satan was portrayed. He's actually not that bad looking. There are scenes where you get brief glimpses of his evil side with the snakes and so forth, but if you saw him on the street, you'd not find him repulsive at all. I personally like that sort of portrayal of evil in literature and novels. The most sinister evil is the one that doesn't look evil, because it is easier for that evil to seduce others to its side.

Meh - if you read Le Morte d'Arthur (Which I assume ALL of you have...) Lucifer took the form of an extremely beautiful and seductive woman a few times. tongue.gif

Or Bedazzled. biggrin.gif
Desdemona2005-04-12 21:29:47
Or how about in The Devil's Advocate? Anyone remember John Milton? He was an influential and charismatic man. I enjoy the whole deal of the devil knowing the deepest and most obscure desires of man, and with the capacity to fulfill such wishes just to seduce someone into their "doom"?

Edit: The devil possesses the keys to the hearts of man, doesn't he? Magnagora should get the devil as a rolemodel.
Daganev2005-04-12 21:40:38
What do you think Luciphage and the Demonlords are?
Desdemona2005-04-12 21:51:58
I don't know, nowadays when I think of Magnagora I think of rabid dogs... *shrug* A lot of action and publically detected "evilness", no subtlety nor cunning. Completely no seduction. So I'd rather not even consider the whole plane of Nil as linked to one of the so called greatest deceivers of all time, because if Luciphage is supposed to be the devil... I think someone would be having a fit.

Oh, I liked The Devil's Advocate movie quite a lot, so I bothered to search for a quote:

John Milton: Why not? I'm here on the ground with my nose in it since the whole thing began. I've nurtured every sensation man's been inspired to have. I cared about what he wanted and I never judged him. Why? Because I never rejected him, in spite of all his imperfections. I'm a fan of man. I'm a humanist. Maybe the last humanist.

If you've ever gotten a close look at some of the 'high ups' in Magnagora, you'll notice they do have attractive qualities. Snaikka, for example, is very much beautiful, if off her rocker. Nifilhema, Luciphage, Ashtorath, also, very attractive, albit in less conventional ways, though, they are not viscanti, but you get the picture.

Lots of normal, player Viscanti are very attractive as well. I hardly imagine all people who are considered 'good' are attractive, and not all people considered 'bad' are ugly. I'd personally think 'evil', if you insist on Magnagora being such, would support and appreciate beauty, since it's such a useful tool. Just look at say, Veonira, Llexyn, Arilyon for an example - they're all beautiful, and have power, to boot.
Revan2005-04-12 21:55:58
It's rather true that most of Magnagora doesn't have subtlety... in fact, the city as a whole is as subtle as a rampaging horde of taurans... but on an individual level, some of us are extremely subtle in our evilness.
Bricriu2005-04-12 21:58:00
Really? I can think of plenty of subtle things, but I also tend to see them up close. People not in Magnagora wouldn't likely notice it, just because it IS subtle. Paired up with a 'mask' or being very blunt in actions, I think it works nicely.
Revan2005-04-12 22:01:13
Well, you also know more than I do, period, Bric tongue.gif

I'm usually not let in on all of the political intrigue of the city either. That's not my job, it's yours, so therefore you're intrinsically alot more subtle, and are able to see the city's subtleties alot easier since you're more a part of them.
Daganev2005-04-12 22:01:59
I just had a conversation with someone who was saying that thier views of things appear to be getting twisted, to which another non mangagoran said 'you mean more clear'

And then they started chanting.. 'Long live the taint... Damn it and its sudductivness'

So I wouldn't go around making blanket statements.

Yes indeed, Luciphage and Nifilhema are just as attractive physically as almost any other being. Ashorath can be ... sometimes.

BTW, another random thought here, modern day viscanti do not generally resemble any other race. In other words, they don't generally look like a 'tainted taurian' or a 'tainted lucidian', etc. This may have been true in the time immediately following the Taint itself, but over generations they've interbred with each other, becoming a somewhat homogenized race unto themselves. Some may have a couple of vestigal features of other races (wings, horns, etc.) but they probably wouldn't appear at all similar to any other race and be immediately recognizable as viscanti.
Desdemona2005-04-12 22:03:35
I really don't consider one all out war, nor the enticement to have a follow-up as subtle. You know the whole ordeal of Serenwilde considering the raising of Crow as an act of war, Magnagora's involvement no matter how small wouldn't be dismissed. On the other hand, if Magnagora has managed to bait Celest into going into "good" terms to keep them out of any conflict between Magnagora and the rest... Then that is something worthy of a standing ovation.
Bricriu2005-04-12 22:07:57
We're not going to reveal our plots! laugh.gif If you haven't noticed them, it's just proving we did a decent job. biggrin.gif
Desdemona2005-04-12 22:10:35
I don't notice anything or much, really... Unless it's something that is just about to devour the whole world, as we experience recently. tongue.gif I'm very hermetic and detached, in-game.

Light and the Taint, two powers on the whole Basin. The Tainted should convince the whole Basin, that they are the true way and that they only want for everyone to experience bliss and fulfillment. Yep, start converting Celest!
Revan2005-04-12 22:19:27
Des.. I don't know where you've been, but most of Magnagora is composed of Celestian converts. Hell, I was a convert. I blame Bricriu.
Bricriu2005-04-12 22:22:51
I wouldn't say most, but we do snag a lot of people. :/
