The point of my post was not about the damage, but about the increase in the damage given by the artifacts. What I am saying is that no artifact should increase the damage of the possessor by 80-100%. If the base damage of warriors is not enough, then look at the base damage and adjust it. But, having an artifact that increases the offensive power by that much because it costs 700 credits in a pair, would be the same as me saying I should have my offensive power increased by 160-200% because I purchased a damage increasing artifact that costs 1600 credits.

I don't see how hard it is to do what Shamarah suggested, reduce elemental runes down to 33% elemental damage instead of 50%, but boost base damage overall.

If not that, then do what have been done in Achaea, and restrict greathelms (Mages and Guardians aren't supposed to wear them anyway) and greatshields to only knights. Make wound afflictions always hit when they are at medium or heavy wounds, so rather you'll always get either punctured lung/chest/collapsed chest every time at critical, instead of randomly sometimes.

P.S.- I wouldn't mind Magic getting a boost as well, it's sad that Guardians and Moondancers almost never kill based on damage alone since it's so easily reduced.

What they need to do, is even out the damage some. Sure, you can't kill any tanky person without arti runes. But at the same time, damage to non-tanky targets is EXTREME. We have ways of getting around it, but that doesn't help when you only need to put 3 hits through.

Damage needs increased on the higher end, and decreased on the lower end. DOWNGRADE base damage, nerf runes, but also downgrade how insanely tanky people can get.

Knights should be noticably tankier, but there shouldn't be a difference such that soft targets die in two hits, while hard targets you'll never scratch.

God no, I don't think any single ability have ever created such level of combat inequality as that goddamn skill. Sarapis have had to downgrade it 3 times by now since it is virtually impossible to kill a Grook Mage with it, Lusternia Mages have problems that need fixing, diamondskin is not the solution.

Malicia.. correction: Aquamancer damage is pretty much unblockable. You can easily take geomancer and druid staffs, due to their being cut (druid) and cut/blunt/poison (geo)

wow this thread has turned into yet ANOTHER bitch session overnight!

I am however inclined to say if you nerf knights damage, we have NOTHING left to fall back on.

Thats right, NOTHING. Sacrafice is useless, and even if it was able to be pulled off, its STILL unreliable at best because we don't have a decent affliction rate. Without elemental runes, it is IMPOSSIBLE for someone to kill Narsrim or Tuek as a dwarf, even if they just sat there and healed.

Not only that this is the only realm I have come across that has a skill that allows you to shrug venoms and reduce physical damage, i'm talking about resilience.

the other day in serenwilde, I had gwylifar AND malicia beating on me, in the middle of a blackout demesne with about 4 other moondancers and hartstoners, and they took ages to get me down to 2k health, at which point i could've chanted puella and got away, I called for an empress instead. Their damage was pitiful, so was their affliction rate and their miss rate.

Honestly, I'd be happy to swap my lightning rune for the rune of 100% venom afflictions, or perhaps take elemtal runes down to 40% and nerf resiliences physical damage a little bit, and totally remove the venom shrugging.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, ceres' hailstorm did 2k a round to me with my penalty to cold. I didn't piss and moan and ask if to be nerfed, she had an 800 cr artifact (like I do) and she was able to do it in the middle of a demesne, with stalker going and all the effect, and she wasn't even in the room with me. It would've been even more if she had a knowledge blessing, but i accepted it because she had high int, a good arti and i was in the demesne.

I agree; Narsrim and Tuek are hellishly tanky and need nerfed. That's not the issue. The issue is that you can kill a LOT of people in one or two rounds of combat. Damage doesn't need nerfed, it needs to be a bit more balanced. Not balanced so that I'm too tanky to kill, but balanced more that walls like Narsrim are killable, but you don't annihilate people like me in a single pulp.

In attempts to filter the bitching and counter bitching, I did see an excellent point being made that I feel the administration should investigate:

A 1600cr artifact for increase magic damage is VERY sub par to other artifacts. Let us all bear in mind that 1600 is nearly $500 yet is one of the worst artifact investments in Lusternia. For some reason unknown to me, Elemental Runes were reduced in cost. I think it is fair to do the same to the Sceptres or make them better.

Yes, let us nerf people who bash themselves to above level 80; maintain a constant karma to uphold 3+ karma blessings; complete various other alternative methods to boost health; work hard for Divine favours; etc... and yet in all of this work, Ixion still can get nearly 6,500 more health than I can even though I'm a level higher in experience.

I'm supposed to be tanky: I worked damn hard for it. I also selected a race that made such more viable unlike others.

With that said, I think the problem with damage in Lusternia is simple:

CON >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DEX

This was not the case in other IRE games. Avoidance allowed races with high DEX to be extremely difficult to hit for a reason. They typically had low CON and couldn't take the damage of more beefy races. Whereas Avoidance was passive and worked all the time in all locations, Combat is far more specific and takes a great deal of effort to setup and strategically use. For example, let's assume Ialie was stancing Vitals. She would be stancing to protect her head, chest, and gut at one time. However, pulp doesn't miss (at least, I've never seen it do so) and furthermore, someone could just as easily swing randomly and connect to places other than the stance protects.

In theory, a Faeling would be difficult to hit with weapons. In Lusternia, that isn't the case.

I believe you are 100% correct here, Narsrim. There are way too many races with way too much Con, and as a stat it is way, way more powerful then dex which, as you explained, was often the counterbalance in other realms.

On the other hand, Pulp DOES in fact miss, although I don't blame you for getting that one wrong...I've only seen it miss once, when I was testing damage on Ixion.

I think that the current effectiveness of things like stances is where stances+high dex should be. If you improve the to hit of physical attacks across the board, combined with increasing the relative value of dexterity, I think things would make a lot more sense...Knights would still miss often enough to be useful against either high dex or high combat people, and would struggle against high dex, high combat people as much as they do now.

*sigh* I understand all that Narsrim. I don't think knights should be as tanky as they are either. But there's something wrong when there's a wide gap, on other side of which is pathetic and unkillable. There needs to be more of a middle ground and less extremes.

Agree there Sylphas, balance needs tobe made so im not killing you little girly men with one pulp, and that i can't damage the big girly men like narsrim.

on that note sylphas, we have no other alternate method of killing someone, sacrifice is just flat out is impossible to pull off, and all our afflictions are far too easy cured and generally don't have a synergy about them, (IE you have sap wchich works well with web and paralyse and prone, keeping them hindered) The best knights have is paralyse whoring, or at best bonecrusher can mangle legs while giving slickness or salve-stacking someone, which isn't all that hard to cure.

I know. You should be able to kill with damage, but you shouldn't completely own someone like you can. There's a fine line between tankiness being worth something, and tankiness being the difference between not dying ever, and dying in one hit. I think the Divine need to take a look at the big picture, and see which side of the line Lusternia is on.
