If you want protection from "heat" (not "fire") damage type, use frost and a heatproofed coat. Damage source applies to offense modifiers (INT, STR, etc.). Damage type applies to defensive modifiers (armour, etc.). If I summon a hailstorm or a blast of hot steam, my magical abilities may be able to produce hotter steam or heavier hail stones. But once the hail and steam is conjured, it's just plain old normal physical hail and steam. So it would not make sense for a protection from magic defend you from that any more than it would in a natural hailstorm or if you were dropped into a titan's steam cooker for his dinner.

Then certainly resilience would protect you from said blunt hailstones? Magic protects you far to much from Magic attacks, it's like the mini-skill Constitution in the other realms only more powerful (and costing more credits), and we lack the other mini-skills for other damage types. When I learned Magic, I had initially believed it was all the "magic" damage types (The elements) condensed into one skill. Actual Magic damage skills (Cosmicfire, Nature Curse, and to a somewhat lesser extent Moonburst) are notoriously the weakest damage types found in Lusternia, but there is a skill that gives a complete 25% reduction and doesn't help against the more powerful damaging types (Mainly Heat and Electrical).
Thorgal2005-04-13 14:02:21
25% might be a bit much, 15% to fire, magic, lightning and cold seems the most logical, the way it is now doesn't make any sense, I kinda thought it was supposed to be like that from the start. The "magic" attacks are already extremely weak, why devote a 300 credit skillset to making it even weaker?
Ceres2005-04-13 15:30:37
I'm tempted to forget Magic for other things, at the moment.
After all, if I'm going to die to a 600 damage nature curse/moonburst/cosmicfire, I'm going to die to a 450 one.

Does that mean proofing works once again?
On a side note, there seems to be resistance to every single types of damage, physical, magic, fire, cold, poison, but none whatsoever for lightning. Furthermore, only one race has lightning resistance, the laughable Krokani, but every single race will take full damage from it, Merian and Mugwump also have level 2 and 3 weaknesses against it. This is why every knights so far have lightning runed weapons, would it be too much to ask for some common defense against lightning?

I wouldn't mind that, Daevos, Murphy and Icarus all hurts like hell when they hit me with their lightning weapons.
Ooh, time for me to go post me getting my behind kicked by Daevos.

Perhaps an larger scale of malkuth in highmagic that earths you, increasing protection against summons AND offering a lightning protection. With a lowmagic equivalent.
EDIT: The lowmagic one could be like, literally rooting you, and the highmagic one being like magiccy ones like malkuth.

Invoke red is the Lowmagic ability to root onself to the earth.

I have not bothered to learn magic even with a -3 magic vulnerablity.
I think for the sake of combat balance what Magic affects should be looked into a bit.

Just wait until the Aeromancers come with Lightning staves, then all the Mugwumps and Merians will run for the hills.
I can't say anything that hasn't been said about how the
Magic Skill works, it needs to be changed.

I had trans both, and I've never been very tanky, or seen a huge difference. But, I suppose, I did trans those right off.
Do they make -that- much of a difference?

I still think the Aquamancers shoulda got a steamblast instead of hailstorm, and some sort of iceblast as their staff attack. I mean, it just makes more sense.
Or what, are Pyromancers gonna get some sort of weird heat absorption ray that does cold damage?

Aeromancers can get cold based attack. Makes more sense that Pyromancers, that's for sure.
Ceres2005-04-14 09:57:02
Mmm.. cold staff against Dracnari
Shiri2005-04-14 16:00:45
Yeah, but then what would Pyromancers get, Kashim? It'd be boring if they just got another heat attack. (Besides, Aeromancers should get lightning rods. )

Of course that the most standard would be Pyromancers - fire, Aquamancers - cold, Geomancers - poison or physical, Aeromancers - electrical.
But it's so stereotypical...
Shiri2005-04-14 18:08:15
...yes, see, that's the point, Aquamancers don't have cold.

Hmm, perhaps someone can just verify if what I'm thinking is correct.
Resilience regenerates endurance faster, so does that mean Magic regenerates willpower faster?
