the time i wished i had focus mind wasnt when tuek or dumihru kept true hexing me, it was when i kept getting hit with anorexia and impatience underwater... that was a pain in the ass especially since us being in the sea usually meant we were trying to do something... so yeah i went and got it, after frustations of having to run everytime i saw a mage or celestine underwater made me lose a couple strands of hair.
Shiri2005-04-14 00:54:40
Heh. Healing IS useful for some things.
Daganev2005-04-14 00:55:57
you sure chardybon can't give anorexia? i thought it gave random afflictions, not that it gave random poisons. Like when that one person got an affliction that doesn't exist in this game and so, has no cure...
Shiri2005-04-14 00:58:48
That was a major bug.
It gives random poisons. Same as Othala gives random runes.

Oh, what exactly can't you do underwater? Light the pipe, or smoke it?
Shiri2005-04-14 01:11:24
Smoke, I think, oddly enough.
Not that it really matters.

It's already impossible venomlocking someone in Lusternia if he has focus mind, unlike in achaea... it really shouldn't be made even easier to get out.

My idea would zap two balances and would be stopped by slickness, anyone who'd have you with anorexia/asthma could easily take advantage of you being off of two healing balances.

If you don't buy credits, the max you can get is Expert in a skillset.
I've never bought a credit (with real money) and my character has Fabled Aquamancy.
Drago2005-04-14 04:11:32
But you've still bought credits ICly, thus the "The maximum for a character who doesn't buy credits."
Now, why should it be made even easier to get out of a "lock" when only two classes can do it with any regularity (nihilists and moondacers) and, even then, only if they've chosen Hexes.
I'm fairly sure that I'm the only Nihilist who has Hexes, and I'm fairly sure Tuek is the only Moondancer who has Hexes.
All making locks easier to get out of with your allheale suggestion would do is make hexes suck even harder.
Get Hod in Highmagic, its just before Tipharet (around Master).
There's only a poison that gives slickness, and nothing else that I can remember (sting counts as a poison for this). So.. basically, you'd be making it impossible to lock someone unless you were teaming.
Which is just stupid, the biggest fact in IRE combat is that you almost always need to have high-level skills to succeed in combat. Changing it so that combat is idiot-proof is stupid.

So as a hexer you think that sacrificing two heal balances is "easier" than 250 mana? Does focus mind even have a balance? You, as a hexer should be able to punish anyone off of allheale and salve balance.
Daganev2005-04-14 06:45:31
each focus has its own, long balance.
Thorgal2005-04-14 09:28:29
Focus body balance depends on your discipline skill, focus mind and focus spirit are both 1.5 seconds, all three work on the same balance.
Shiri2005-04-14 15:48:27
I wonder out of curiosity if focus mind and focus spirit are based on discipline too. (Y'know, with Teacher tarot.)
Thorgal2005-04-14 15:51:21
Wouldn't be a point to basing focus spirit on discipline skill, since it's at trans .
edit: didn't see the teacher tarot part.

While I agree that something should be done about Focus Spirit, I am a bit uneasy with the trend being "Focus Spirit shouldn't cure X!" for, well, pretty well all values of X. As it is, Focus Spirit cures very few things you'll ever actually see, and it's a trans skill. If we make it not cure all these things, then it won't do anything. Considering it's a transcendent skill and should do something pretty amazing, I don't much like the idea that everyone wants it to do nothing at all.
My suggestion is that it should still cure the things it cures, but it should cost more -- perhaps power -- plus, it shouldn't cure things instantly. Leave it on the focus balance, but when it cures something, make it instead say that it's starting to cure it, then the cure actually goes into effect the same time focus balance returns. That gives those curses a chance to afflict you while you're waiting for it to take effect. This brings us back to the idea of tactics and countertactics without sacrificing either side for the other.

I was told that outside of focus mind there is no common (and I'd hardly call that common) way to break out of Anorexia + Asthma, although I was also told that it's decently hard to get both at the same time (in other words you'd have to be bad at curing to get both). Regardless of that, I think having a two part lock is sucky, so here's my suggestion.
Flame away.
Flame away.

First off, there are abilities in lowmagic/highmagic that cure 2 afflictions for 3p. This includes anorexia and asthma.
Second, almost every class can break it with guild skills:
Paladins/Ur'guard/Serenguard - Hunger
Celestines - Empower
Nihilists - Syphon
Moondancers - Full Moon (Bedevil, if you have trans Healing)
Aquamancers - Sweetfount or whatever
Hartstone (Totem healing but that would just be wrong to suggest)/Geomancers - no skill to cure it

Well, I don't have sweetfount but assuming it runs on at least regular demesne timers using it would require 10 seconds or more to cure one affliction and possbly a lot longer if I have other afflictions, plus it'd require for me to be in my demesne.
I also don't have the skill in HighMagic, even with that though I still think it's wrong to need a skill to avoid a 2 part lock.
