Considering that Wicca is an actual religion that is practiced and even recognzied by the US government (I don't know if that says too much but meh), it is rather rude to call a core aspect of Wicca "euro-mythology."

I doubt too many Christians would be happy if someone called Moses, "Hebrew Mythology," etc.

I honestly don't care. smile.gif I don't give a second glance to neo-wiccans, because, from what I'm told, they've lost a lot of touch with what the term "Wiccan" once stood for.

And, Christians can go screw themselves, too. tongue.gif Moses is "hebrew mythology", the Bible's a giant metaphor, and Atlantis never existed. It, as well, was a metaphor.

And no god damn angel named Gabriel came down and talked to some crazy wanderer in the deserts.

Oh, and not all Mormons believe in polygamy. It's only a particular sect.

I figured if I was going to deal a blow to these neo-wiccan yuppies, I might as well do a few others, too.
Sylphas2005-04-18 21:27:32
Yeah, the only reason Christians get upset by the word mythology is because they associate it with false gods, and other untruths. So to them, mythology = untrue. Whereas pagans can accept other mythologies as valid, or potentially valid, and thus don't have that same stigma.

But there are a lot more than just 3 moon phases, and I don't think people in the olden days would have been oblivious to that.

Being from a moon culture myself, I can safely say that when such things are simplified it is because they are teaching a concept or refrencing a concept, not that the simplification is the concept itself.  If that makes any sense.

Let me search for a page that will explain this to you so I don't have to write down all the junkage. It has to do with the days between each moon phase, etc....

I read this real fast so don't hold me to it but it sounds about right:

Three Faces, Four Quarters & the Moon

EDIT:

I actually don't like that page but... I'm not changing it until I find something better.
Daganev2005-04-18 21:35:22
There are 28 1/2 days in the lunar month. You have your New moon (normally actually refering to the small sliver moon, not the actual lack of moon) then you get your 'half moon' and 'Pregnant moon' and your 'Full moon' The whole moon on the decline section is normally lumped into on phase.

However, the moon as a symbol of the stages of life, which comes in threes for for the sexually mature, makes great sense, and that is the lesson they are getting at. (notice, if you put in the pre-sexually mature child you get the newborn and the child, giving you 5 phases again)

the Tripplicat is , to my understanding, the idea of stability and balance and maturity. the cycle of the woman, the giving of life, are symbols for all of nature and the world we live in, thus anything that shows these things become important symbols to gaze upon and think about.

It didn't take them very long, the religion was only invited mid last century! doh.gif I blame Hollywood.

The pacification thing with multiple nymphs is going to far, they should only hit once.

Squads of farhealers, on the other hand, are perfectly legitimate. It is an effective way to use a skill that makes people who aren't the best at bashing, but have healing skill, useful. Not only that, but Farhealing was probably designed with that in mind: healing someone from afar.

In short: multiple nymphs = overpowered, farhealing = fine.

Nymphs were already changed. They now have no effect on the Avatars at ALL.

Didn't stop me from killing Gwyllgi again...
Shiri2005-04-19 00:00:11
Farheal is an awesome skill.

Farcure, on the other hand, sucks.

But there we go.

To add on to my previous post, we also end up getting sidetracked a LOT on unrelated coding priorities that crop up... like having to drop everything to brainstorm, design and code a way to prevent one person the capability to solo a night avatar (with or without a squad).

Well more changes need to be made to the Avatars then, I suppose. We're not going to stop using our skills because it's mean and nasty for the poor Glomgloms

It was apparently changed so that it wouldn't.

No, Estarra stopped it since she raised the Avatar herself, in error.

At least for one of them.

Ummm... no. The tree was at negative 56 power. I kill Avatar, the Ravenwood is still at -56. Estarra goes and adds 1000 power later, so then it was in the 1000 power range.

Yea, that's what I meant, but when I went and checked, it was 1000+ since people had added power since I had killed Gwyllgi obviously.

wub.gif The first time I got quoted...*faint*

EDIT:
*cough* Back to Topic:
I'd like to know how the three names of the Avatars are anyway, and how they look like.
The only thing I know is that Gwylligi is a big dog and has funny eyes.

Do a Google search on Gwyllgi.

(Also, when you're struggling to come up with a name you like, and you do a Google search to make sure it won't conflict with anything... make sure to search on partial names too. sad.gif)
