Being a computer programmer, the words appear in my head as UML models... (Just kidding!)

About a 33%/66% relationship, plus four confused people.
That's higher than I would have thought, but then we're playing a text game here, so I imagine that has something to do with it.

Hmm. WTF was I think when I posted this...

If I know who the writer is, I usually hear their voice in my head... like how you see in the movies, people reading letters and the person's voice is in the background. My life is a movie XP I wish.
Oh just re-read the topic... yeah I still hear the voices I suppose, but I can't tell what my own voice is like, it's just... there.

Anyone else dub each character in a book with a different voice in your head, or do you just use your own?
Makes it weird when you get an awkward passage of dialog, think the wrong person is speaking, and hear stuff in the wrong voice.

Well, I sort of...actually, now I'm confused. I read words in my head, but I still attribute accents to people. Not sure what's going on there.
Sylphas2005-04-18 22:32:57
Accents as written, or accents just from character background and such?
Shiri2005-04-18 22:36:00
That's the thing, I don't think you can have written accents. (I don't mean like, e with a line on it, or o with a hat on. )
Accents from character background. Like, voices. I read people with different voices. Even though I SEE the words, not hear them. Now I'm confused. :/

Sylphas2005-04-18 22:44:02
Well, like Redwall has a variety of written accents. Or you could drop the Hs in a word, like "'ere".
Shiri2005-04-18 22:46:17
OH. No not like that. I don't read them like that usually, most of the time it's in perfect grammar/spelling.
Sylphas2005-04-18 22:56:25
You can get through Redwall with perfect grammar and spelling in your head?
Shiri2005-04-18 23:09:53
...I don't know now. I don't see Ceres' and Shamarah's doing mole impressions in my head as normal...bleh.
Sylphas2005-04-18 23:23:13
Whenever I hear that accent now, the speaker morphs into a giant mole in my head. It's rather amusing picturing Shamarah as a giant aquatic mole.
Shiri2005-04-18 23:26:18
Awesome, thanks for that.
Maedhros2005-04-19 01:23:17
Hear. I have conversations with myself .
Skyla2005-06-28 10:24:15
I hear voices.

Well it's a cute image!
(And yeah, the necro is my fault, Skyla denied that the extra comma in the last paragraph of her post was extra, said it added drama or something, so I assumed she heard it in her head, she was surprised anyone did it any other way, I showed her this thread.)

hear... I talk to myself too so watch out -.-

Me too...
Depends on what I'm doing, normally I would say I "hear" things. But when I'm thinking about Lusternia and code I am working on I tend to "read"... I guess that means I read more than hear?
Yes... That does mean I think about how I am going to code something while I'm out with my GF, or at the bar... I could tell you some funny stories... but I don't think Estarra would approve of them. Lets just say, elevations screwed me up for weeks(those CT's about ELEVATIONS instead of ELECTIONS(grr, still doing it) is actually minor compared to some the things I did while coding them... it was just stuck in my mind...)

If Im speed reading I think in words, because they are faster to process and require less cognition. If Im just normally reading I hear it in my head. I also, when I do sleep, dream with subtitles, and think in text. Meh, MUDs make you weird.

Other than the subtitles (which sound VERY VERY cool), this hit it right on the head. Many people 'hear' the words because it's easier to comprehend and/or the just like to do it. However, you're limited in how fast you can read and comprehend those words (you can only speak so fast). 'reading' the words is a faster way to read for comprehension. In fact, one of the first steps to speedreading is to stop 'hearing' the words.
So being a person that 'reads' the words may make you unique, but, as they say, also an overall better reader.
That said, I 'hear' the words mostly. Sometimes I 'see' the events instead of reading though (but after a short while, the story in my head has gone a different path from the story, since I've fallen asleep).
