Back to Common Grounds.

As long as it's only the ab skillset list, I feel it's a great help for those people like me that don't know what people are talking about, or for people to know when will be able to get a skill (if you want a quasy trascendant skill maybe you prefer to spend the lessons on 2 lesser ones if you know beforehand is transcendant).
The moment it becomes acomplete ab file for each skill with the most useful tricks on how to counteract-use efficiently the skill I would kill the web owner tongue.gif
Erion2005-04-18 14:19:14
I completely disagree. Even the ab skillset is damaging, and I, for one, would prefer it be kept secret.

If you want to dump all the necessary lessons into a skill to trans it and see the ab skillset, fine. Go for it. Otherwise, too bad.
Sylphas2005-04-18 14:44:02
Yes, of course Erion, because all the skill lists are secret as it is. Anyone who wants to know can find out, it just takes a bit longer. And I sure as hell wouldn't put anything into a skill until I had a good idea of what I was getting. I almost didn't bother transing Druidry because I knew Fury was trans. If I hadn't, and had actually expected something decent, I'd be highly disappointed.
Tehn2005-04-18 21:47:43
Some people don't have the money, time, or effort just to trans every skillset to see what's in each. I know I had access to skill knowledge before I invitested in mine, I got to exactly Focus Mind and didn't got a bit further, because common skills are fairly easy to find access to. If I had trans'd it out to find only a few more skills, ones I don't find AS useful for the lessons, I'd have been HIGHLY disapointed. I'm sorry we're not all like Erion who can apparently just put lessons into a skill to see if it's good.

On another note, alot of people who are extremely against ab lists and files being out, probably have seen them themselves, or saw them prior to spending their lessons (in many cases), so that's pretty shady.

Just created a poll here, curious how everyone feels about posting common skills publicly since it's sparked so much debate.
jelani2005-04-19 22:27:53
If I may point your attention to the poll I created, out of over fourty votes so far, only five people were against skills being posted publically.
Erion2005-04-19 22:49:57
I really think it's an administration decision over a player-base one, anyway.
Yiaxu2005-04-20 13:40:47
I dunno about all you guys who don't want skills posted, but when I spent 300$, I wanna know what I'm gonna get for it. I don't particularly like spending 300$ for a chance at the grab bag.

On the topic of teaching of skillsets, I think the way the Moondancers do it is best. Before a novice graduates, we give them an overview of all the skillsets available to them. When I do this, I explain in detail the useful skills that don't take much learning of each skillset, like deathsense and thirdeye and heal and clotting and insomnia, and I explain what kinds of skills are available in each skillset with general examples. The explainations are all in character, and using knowledge my character learned ingame from talking to others. I really don't think such knowledge should be in any out of character resource, and characters should only act on knowledge they are told in character. Now, if someone wants -really- detailed informaion, I show them my journal, which has each skill I've learned in character and what rank and % the skill is learned at. Showing that to them is like me going into an in depth teaching session of what they are able to learn. It just makes things easier. -shrug-

I think we're all coming from one of two sides. When I buy credits with my own money, I want to know what I'm getting from it. I don't care one way or the other if Sylphas knows what he's going to get from learning the skill, but I, as the player, do.
Narsrim2005-04-20 17:59:38
I really don't understand people in this thread. If Estarra doesn't want it then it shouldn't be done. This is her game and she should have say in matters like these... and I'm sure they are very well founded. For example, there are lots of people who will look over these lists and take it IC like their character suddenly "knows it." This is lame.
Daganev2005-04-20 18:09:20
Something just accured to me.

People like to use the agrument that surely thier charachter after living around the world for 16 years would know what these guilds do.

However, Nobody who isn't Jewish knows what Jews do. I can safely say this because of all the miss-information I hear from people, especially new yorkers. Even those guys on T.V. who appear to know hebrew and explain all these funky things using the hebrew words are often dead wrong (or lieing) about what Jews do or think or whatnot. And these are educated people, its just that if your not taking the classes that Jewish people take, then your likely missing the information you need.

Similarlly, I think if your not learning the lessons from the guild tutor, your likely to missunderstand or not know what the skills of the another guild are. If your charachter can figure it out from 16 years of walking around, then you can figure it out by waiting a few weeks and learning in game, what the skillsets contain.

I wish I could change my vote and say "DON'T POST ANY SKILLLISTS!"

All it would really require to know where your spending your $300 worth of credits is a little ingame patience.
Unknown2005-04-20 20:48:37
I wouldn't claim that my character(s) should know every ability in every skillset, but we can certainly found out IC by asking someone in our guild with more training than ourselves. That, to me, isn't necessarily bad RP, though I can certainly understand the sentiment of "no talking about XP and AB or you'll ruin the RP."
Tehn2005-04-20 22:32:19
I don't think characters should be all knowing, but the characters aren't invensting money or plotting how to spend resources... It's unwise to randomly grab skills just because you think they sound cool because of how limited resources can be. As far as what Estarra wants, I've yet to see a response and I've never actually seen where it was said to not post this or you can post that. I'm sure someone will show me where, but I've not come across it.
jelani2005-04-20 22:40:50
Tehn brings up a good point. Has Lady Estarra actually ever said she doesn't want skills posted, or did someone make that up? I've accepted it to be true since I heard it here, and as such decided I won't post them because I think She's awesome and don't want to go against Her, but uhh, has She actually ever said that?
Erion2005-04-21 11:45:32
Estarra has. Repeatedly. And, given Estarra's history on Achaea, and the only guild to seriously push for secrecy's relation to her, it's no surprise.
Roark2005-04-21 12:37:58
An easy solution to the where-do-I-spend-my-credits problem is quite simple: trans every skillset! tongue.gif
Yiaxu2005-04-21 12:42:14
Brilliant!
Erion2005-04-21 13:40:30
I <3 Roark's answer.
Tehn2005-04-22 00:13:53
Roark, that's AMAZING...however, I don't have the funds to do that...wanna help me out? If not, then I guess I need another solution. I'm not saying it's a personal problem, I have absolutely no problem finding out what I need to, but.. it would make things easier to publicly discuss without people being upset, and possibly give better sources..meh
