Okay so right now I'm a runie but after looking at Ceres' fight against Kaervas blackout is starting to look really good...

what do you all say?
Shiri2005-04-20 23:53:09
Blackout was altered so it's no longer totally lethal, mind.
Unknown2005-04-20 23:54:15
Well, assuming blackout doesn't get fixed... cool.gif

I think Runes is more applicable in most situations though, especially if your opponent is already struggling with the demesne.
Shamarah2005-04-20 23:54:36
It's nastiest for Geos, because they have Chasm...
Sylphas2005-04-21 00:00:25
Yeah, with Chasm and stun, it's great. It's also really fun to just play around with.

And speaking as a druid, having illusions was nice, for RP at least (I'm still waiting for someone to make embedded hallucinations work really well).

Dreamweaving is far more advantagous.

Runes just has the add in of statues, really.

Yeah I was about to jump to Dreamweaving right when it first came out but noticed that the totems in Serenwilde were reverting so thought I'd be of more use with runes. But now...hmm

Dreamweaving is better at the lower levels, though possess really isn't worth it, i mean you have to get them asleep, and with few good reflexes, they can be awake permentantly, well if they're above level 80 that is, Runes with the trans skill is good, though i never got it, embeded runes can be more of a hassle then Memoryloss, since Motes take longer to make, and are more costly.
Vesar2005-04-21 01:57:23
I voted Runes and Vesar has stayed with Runes. In my mind, Runes is much better for combat that Dreaming, as the range of afflictions are better and more varied. Dreamweaving sounds fun, and I wouldn't mind taking it up, but I think once the novelty wears off, there will be an even mix of Runists and Dreamers.

In the end, it boils down to your personality: Do you prefer incapacitating and destroying your enemy, or stealthy creeping about, spying on your enemy, and using them?
Sylphas2005-04-21 02:00:05
I find Runes to be better for killing, especially outside your demesne. Granted, this is as a druid; with Chasm and lodestone, embedded blackout is not fun at all.
Kaervas2005-04-21 10:45:39
Dreamweaving is nice for blackout, sleepmist and control (stops you from falling asleep ever). Besides that it's pretty useless unless you like spying on people or something. I might end up switching to runes eventually.

I've played with dreamweaving for awhile and found it to be decent at best for an aquamancer. For a geomancer blackout would be a bit more helpful in allowing the efficient use of chasm. Blackout was overpowered in its original form when it was the only mote embedded, but the downgrade has made it a little more manageable. I did think my idea of only allowing it to be embedded once 3 or more other motes were embedded first would have been better.

I have returned to runes, because runes allow for a more varied approach to combat. It gives me more options when it comes to layering afflictions, especially ones that cause stun and disrupt concentration. Runes also work a lot better with the illusion skillset than dreamweaving motes. With dreamweaving, I really did not have many viable options when it came to using affliction illusions; runes give me many more illusion possibilities.

Dreamweaving is more about spying and sneaking around than combat. Granted it has some neat motes, but why trans a skill for 3 or 4 things? Runes is, in my opinion, much more versatile and easy to work with if you're going to be a fighter. I do believe they changed blackout also if you're thinking of a blackout/chasm combo, hun. But in any case, it's all up to you whether you want to try it out or not. Who knows? You may like it better, or you may not like it.
Shiri2005-04-22 19:59:24
Blackout/chasm still works. They just changed the blackout to work for variable times instead of a flat 8 seconds or whatever it was.
