Ever since the undead elfen Rowena Nightshade tricked Laeroc, Consort of
the Queen of the Fae into fathering her child, faelings who take the path
of the tainted Great Nature Spirits of Night or Crow transform into shadow
faelings, a curious breed of faeling, larger than others of their kind,
with a dark complexion that seems to churn with shadows, more bat-like
wings, and eyes that glow with a somber red fire.

Hades was a handsome man, wasn't he? The Devil can be charming, can't he? SO why can't a faeling even if he/she has sold their souls keep being charming and beautiful? In fact, I think a darker skin complexion is far more healthier looking.
Edit: And who is to say, if the shadow faelings' red eyes are nothing more than eyes exuding great passion? Oh, and the faelings being bigger... that's a bonus, that surely stops making faelings too frail.

Viscanti have poor charisma/charm. Shadowfaelings have poorer charisma/charm than the original Faelings. I think we can assume taint = not pretty.
Let's not debate stupid things, like what is demonic, or what is beauty or not.

Shadowcaster faelings are a mix of undead and taint not just taint.. but its what Desdemona said.. shadowcaster faelings are supposed to be better than normal faelings
Desdemona2005-05-08 02:40:55
Ahhh... okay no debates. Just simple facts, every race has their stats, and advantages/disadvtanages. When every race specialize, their advantages/disadvantages are unscathed, they remain without a single mark. What happens when a race specializes? Their stats change to make them more capable in satisfying an archetype.
Oh, and you are too bold to assume that the Taint are not pretty. Who are you to say such thing? That's your personal opinion. Me? I consider the Viscanti to be wonderful and gorgeous, specially if all Viscanti look like the Viscanti that was exhibited in the Lusternian graphic. The Taint doesn't need something as pathetic as "pretty"... they have grace.

As ridiculous as that is, they still would be. This change would only affect influence, something regular Faelings are clearly supposed to be better at.
Unknown2005-05-08 02:43:33
Don't forget a while back Estarra said they had planned the Viscanti to be very very vain, prising personal appearance over other things and such...
Desdemona2005-05-08 02:43:49
Faelings in GENERAL are supposed to be very good at influencing. Glomdoring faelings remain faelings even when they are surrounded in shadows, at top of that, Shadow faelings are an -specialization- so they should retain a level of superiority far higher than the meek regular faelings.
Edit: That level of superiority should be evident in everything, imo, beauty, manners, intelligence, beauty (), survival capacity, you name it.
Edit: I repeated beauty twice, so replace one with... power?
Edit: Oh, noticed something. Shadowlord faeling gets -6 Charisma, while Shadowcaster get's -3 Charisma. I guess that was the toll to take in exchange for their "superiority", would less charisma make the shadow faelings less better that faelings in influencing? If so, I think faelings will have the upper hand in influencing.

Desdemona, honestly, think about this. Charisma is charm, grace, beauty, etc. Viscanti = 10. Shadowfaelings = 13/10. Faelings = 16. Interpret.
In game, you can justify it however you like. Maybe the taint itself encourages distrust and prejudice, and they are just as charming and beautiful as everyone else but thats why they have less charisma. Whatever reason you want to use.
But the facts don't lie. It would be like saying, oh yes, Faelings are really a race of epic proportions, huge and imposing. Sure, the plain stats don't support it, but that doesn't take into account individual variation and comparisons to other things.
I'm trying to think of a way to make it up to Serenwilde Faelings, which fair enough are going to be physically weaker and frailer, but they should be superior to shadowfaelings in other areas to make up for it. Its a point that I don't think many have realized, but unlike all other specialization races, Faelings have a racial history which IS entirely suited to Serenwilde (and Gloriana and Ackleberry). Thus, specialization in Glomdoring brings up issues that just AREN'T THE SAME as the other specializations.

Make it up for them why??? Faelings are not supposed to be as good as Shadow Faelings. Should elfen get something for being in Glomdoring because Elfen in serenwilde do? Should Viscanti get bonuses in Celest??
Also beauty does not equal Charisma.. some of the ugliest people in the world can sell you some of the most useless stuff
Desdemona2005-05-08 03:01:16
Regular faelings are superior to specialized faelings in their charisma, aren't you happy with that? Why should an specialization muster an inferiority in comparison to their base race, just to compensate? You are not forced to move to Glomdoring, retain your faeling race and enjoy your 3/6 higher charisma than those within Glomdoring. By the way, taking that 12 Charisma is probably the average, I would say that +13 Charisma means that something is still charismatic.
Oh, and faelings are suited with Glomdoring just as they are with any other commune, historically speaking.. But thanks to Rowena's intervention, the faelings became stronger while being in Glomdoring, this means that Rowena made history when she and Maeve's consort got together. Shadowl faeling is yet another page in faeling history, rejoice.
I still don't understand why you can't be happy and accept the faelings/shadow faelings as they are.... Really. If Taurians had a specialization elsewhere, I would be radiating with joy... even if said specialization/improvement were found elsewhere from the place that I reside.

Because Faelings are suited to Serenwilde, just as Orclach are suited to Magnagora and shouldn't gain amazing bonuses over the rest of their race for joining Celest.
Should Elfen in Glomdoring get something? I truly wish Elfen had specialized in Glomdoring along a different fork to Moon/Stag specializations. It would have been balanced and ensured one race wasn't screwed over.
Yes, this argument can also apply to Elfen in Glomdoring (albeit hesitatingly because there were only two undead elfen to establish the 'suitability' of elfen to a tainted forest).
Viscanti get bonuses in Celest? Why?
It would make as much sense as originally conceived Faelings getting bonuses in taint... oh wait, that happened.

Faeling WERE suited for Serenwilde. NOW However they are suited for GLomdoring
Desdemona2005-05-08 03:06:59
Your race wasn't screwed over. In fact, the specialization is am improvement
I have an idea... just to have Elryn stop complaining why don't faelings from ever single commune get the chance to become Shadow faelings?
By the way, Elfen wouldn't be a choice for specialization in Glomdoring. Why? Because they already have one in Serenwilde. Elfen spec in Glomdoring... why not extend that privilege to the Viscanti as well? After all, the Glomdoring is a Tainted nature.
If Ackleberry were here, or Glomdoring from the start... FAELINGS WOULD'VE BEEN SUITED FOR EVERY SINGLE COMMUNE! Now, thanks to ROWENA, they get special bonuses from being in Glomdoring, thats all. That doesn't mean that all faelings need to move there.

Nah, they are suited... They simply don't get the whole package of Uberfaeling, Elryn.

Well, I don't really know why you should be displeased at all. Like I said before, you should be happy that faeling have the opportunity to be better, even if this requires to become one of Glomdoring's thralls.
