Sadly not Elfen, no.
Narsrim2005-04-23 06:28:34
Which looks better to you?
---------
Highe Elfen: 12 dex, 17int, 11 con, 11 size with level 1 regen in forests
Shadowcaster Faeling: 17 dex, 15 int, 5 size with level 2 regen in forests, +3 balance, the ability to fly, +1 healing from elixirs
---------
Elfen Lord:14 str, 14 dex, 12 con, 11 int, size 13 with level 1 regen in forests
Faeling Shadowlord: 11 str, 17 dex, 10 int, seize 10 with level 2 regen in forests, +3 balance, +1 healing from elixirs, the ability to fly
---------
This is a freakin joke.

Ah well I'm done complaining about it I guess. Nothing can be done. Will just have to be a substandared faeling.

So wait... Shadowdancers can get specialized races with Elfen and Faeling? This is complete crap. A warrior Faeling is now 10x better than an Elfen Lord. Lame. Lame. Lame. Furthermore, wiccan Faelings are better than High Elfen... wtf.

Quite contrary to what you said on ct earlier about Shadowlords doing no damage and not have to worry about them.

No, you need to learn Moon or Stag to be a High Elfen.

I'm 90% certain that's incorrect.
Only elfen choosing Moon/Hart become High Elfen.

As it stands now specialization wise:
Best to Worst (In my opinion)
Warriors:
Viscanti, Faelings, Elfen, Merian
Guardians/Wiccans:
Merian, Elfen, Viscanti, Faelings
Mages/Druids
Merian, Viscanti, Faelings, Elfen
Lets not forget we have Dracnari, Furriki, Aslaran, Trill, and Lucidians all recieving specializations too. No one race is going to be the best at everything. Also there are two archetypes Estarra wanted to implement that havent been introduced yet.

I didn't realize that they could specialize like this. This is stupid. Elfen suck ass compared to Faelings now. I guess we can also expect Night and Crow >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Moon and Stag?
Terenas2005-04-23 06:37:59
Um, Nyla couldn't you have just said that only Merian, Elfen, Faelings, and Viscanti have specializations? Which we all already know. That doesn't add anything to the fact that a Shadowlord with level 3 balance and no penalties would be incredibly overpowered.

Actually I was ranking them....
Syrienne2005-04-23 06:40:44
I agree with Nyla, as I echoed earlier alot of the races will have specialisations before its all said and done, as is Estarra's plan, so right now all specialised races look real nice in comparison to some others. But naturally the coders cant do EVERYTHING at once so things have to come in a piece at a time, and honestly if we're going to go through this argument everytime one of the new places is born and a new race gets their specialisation and everyone who isnt gonna get it is gonna scream THIS ISNT FAIR I WAS A <> FIRST!! Then you all are going to be screaming an awful lot.. if you think your faeling selfs suck so much now because they got a specialization you can't have, then GO the one you DO have at your disposal. That's the purpose of them.
Desdemona2005-04-23 06:41:48
We should now request for faelings to be downgraded, that would fix the Shadow faeling problem.
I request the following: have weakness to blunt level 2, have weakness to cutting level 1, have weakness to fire level 1, can't carry more than one weapon, can't wear armour, can be collected and stored by other adventurers.

If you are ranking from best to worst, then I disagree with Merian Lord being better than Elfen Lord.
Merian Lords get 14 strength, 13 con, 11 int, 13 dex, level 2 water regen.
Elfen Lords get 14 strength, 12 con, 11 int, 14 dex, level 1 forest regen.
So how are Elfen Lords better?

I, like a few others who have expressed their opinions, don't see anything wrong (much, I'll get to the parts I do have a problem with after) with these new 'corrupted' faelings.
It's nice to see they've finally gotten a specialization, and yes, it would have been fairly boring if Glomdoring got Elves to specialize, and though Faelings didn't come first to mind as a race that would be primary, how they were conceived makes it work. Glomdoring is a tainted forest, much like Magnagora is a tainted city. Magnagora was filled with all kinds of races, yet those that were tainted ended up getting merged into a single race which is unlike many others as a result. The Nexus and city-life were also affected as a result.
So, Glomdoring is nice and tainted, patroned by quite the insane Divine. Why not have twisted representations of what would have existed in it before? Dark elves? Interesting but done before (I play D&D and other video games, Drow and Dark elves are not new to me), whereas twisted fae or half-fae as it would be have not necessarily been done. It's new and interesting. Keeps diversity between the cities and communes, and gives Serenwilde all the more reason to be against Glomdoring on basic and fundamental levels.
Now then, I think this presents an awesome RP oppertunity, personally. Every faeling that doesn't want to go to Glomdoring now has stronger ties with Serenwilde. Those that may have once been faelings, wherever they may be found, are also presented with an interesting and complex situation. Just as most other races looked at the viscanti, faelings now get to look at the Glomdoring versions. I personally am somewhat interesting in how my character will play it out given how he was once one.
It's understandable that people who played faelings are a little depressed that if they want the das-fight-fights, they need to go to some place they might not necessarily want to go. In Lusternia, where I'm painfully aware of the ability to fight being important to a large degree for many, it really hurts playing a race as limited combat wise as Faelings. But really, someone else might have complained if Glomdoring took another race, like Furrikins, or even Tae`dae. Personally, I'm wondering if Ackleberry will ever come back, and if so who might be specialized there?
As for the parts I have a problem with, it is indeed with balance. Now in the past, it's obvious the Divine have corrected many balance issues of abilities and skills. In that case, any problems will be fixed as they come up I'm sure. Just like many others, I see the incredible amount of strength these new Faelings are getting upon specialization are outbalanced by their level 3 balance. Especially those of the Ebonguard. Dropping it to a lower level, in terms of game mechanics, is probably going to end up being necessary to prevent them from becoming far too overpowered.
So to sum up, out of character, it might suck system wise for those who have established themselves as opposed to the taint or Glomdoring, but things happen in the world that one might not desire. Viravain's corruption and insanity is similarly something that many may not have wanted.
In character, this is excellent for RP opening up a whole new can of worms on an already somewhat unstable world. Now those who couldn't fight might end up hating or pitying their bretheren, hunting (somewhat doubtful) or being hunted. A race that once had no or little time to shine for itself in an entire world is now the focal point and interest of most if not all the cities and communes.
Mechanics wise, it'll be a field day of trial and error. Looking at my software engineering project thusfar and seeing how it's going, I feel pity for those coding this entire thing and wish you good luck and lots of caffeine as well as overtime pay. A coder's job is never finished.

Anyone else think it would be reasonable to offer a free reincarnation to everyone? Faelings have recently been remade a TON. I went faeling because I missed flying, and the balance made them just good enough to consider again. Now this comes along and makes sure that faelings will get nothing in the future except possible downgrades. Unspecialized faelings are screwed. Maybe in a week I won't be so damned bitter, and won't have to drop another 100 credits to go elfen. Again.
Ialie2005-04-23 07:15:01
Crap... I didn't think of the downgrades. That is going to suck. Horribly. I am going to be one crippled faeling.
Sylphas2005-04-23 07:17:55
Not for us, hopefully. But we're never, ever going to get upgrades now. They'll tweak the specializations, and leave us to rot.
