From what I heard, on the grapevine, there was a ranged skillset presented to Estarra by one of our gorgeous, I mean... smart, players, which was dismissed and subsequently yoinked by Avasyu.

Two Handed weapon styles, a Shield and Sword style, amd a Samurai-ish style involving constant training of forms (aka monkish but with a twist) wielding a long sword and short sword in tandem.

It has to be staffs. Man they're cool. I can use one (a little), so fun to wield.

We have blademaster and bonecrusher

Just a few ideas:

Marksmen (would include bow/arrows, throwing weapons, etc.)
Further specialization on the above bonecrusher/blademaster - basically you can specialize in a certain sect of weaponry if you choose (normal, regal, exotic, racial)

Normal - What we have now (axes, broadswords, normal clump)
Regal - For the nobility type weapons (Rapiers, Foils, etc.)
Exotic - Add in stuff like Katanas, middle eastern blades
Racial - Each race gets one weapon they favour and the knight can specialize in his racial weapon.

Your skills would change in maybe 2-3 spots for whatever you decide on. You pick the mastery after you trans the skill, and if you choose nothing you keep what we have now.

I know..too much work..I'll shut up now.

Why do people want Ranged Combat? Ranged combat is bad, bad bad bad! Thrown Weapons maybe but not bows and arrows, it just gets repetitive, you get two groups, shielding, and trying to shoot the other! No Bows, and 'sides we already have the equivilants, Mages/Druids and staff up to 10 rooms away, straight line, just like bows, cept they never miss.

I wanna see a Dirks n Daggers specialization for Ebonguard, they'd be like the super speed knights! i mean they'd hit you 4 times before you knew they were there! biggrin.gif Well i wish but hey, might happen happy.gif

if you go ranged, you invariably end up using Achaeas sub par archery or Imperians seriously disgusting archery models.
Unknown2005-05-02 08:37:53
the problem is, Druids have a staff ability that deflects ranged missiles.. but it doesn't work on staff blasts.. so.. currently.. druids have a completely useless ability until ranged weapons come in.
Unknown2005-05-02 08:41:16
Pixie, they shoot arrows, not completly worthless. happy.gif
Unknown2005-05-02 08:50:22
if it stopped said arrows, then true, it wouldn't be completely worthless tongue.gif

Technically it should stop the Geos staff, since it's a boulder not a magic attack, so it's a ranged missile. tongue.gif An no i'm not trying to pick on the Geos, as it should then also stop Cudgel attacks since they're like wood and ranged, so njah! happy.gif

I feel that it makes sense for warriors to have ranged capability. Mages have a demesne to fight in, but a warrior is more mobile. If a warrior doesn't want to enter the demesne and get tossed about like a rag doll, he should have another option. There are already abilities that can easily negate a flurry of projectiles, so it wouldn't be overpowered right away.
Shiri2005-05-02 14:27:09
The Sylph in theory does that, but now it does the blowing-out-of-the-air thing.

Then again, way back, Buho said that the sylph would still do projectile-protection when suitable projectiles actually came out. (What's wrong with runes, I ask?)

I'd rather not have ranged combat. But I doubt anyone's going to seriously consider getting rid of the methods that half the other guilds of the world can use now for ranged combat. So the rest of us need some ranged option since anyone with ranged combat can counter almost anything that can be done by someone without it, just by running around. Particularly against those of us who lack both ranged combat and any hindering method better than a web enchantment.

Guardians don't have ranged attack... if you let warriors have it, we'll be the only ones without it. sad.gif

What?

ORDER ANGEL KILL BOB
ORDER ANGEL MOVE NW

That's ranged right there! We don't even get any entourage to do even that. tongue.gif
Shiri2005-05-02 15:17:40
I thought we meant EFFECTIVE ranged combat.

You know, since ents die really really fast and cost a tonne of power. mellow.gif
Unknown2005-05-02 15:18:32
Riiight, I'm surely gonna kill someone from afar that way tongue.gif
Not to mention I'll have to go there to actually be able to use it again.
Gwylifar2005-05-02 15:18:32
That's a bit of a stretch, Terenas. You can't use that to beat on someone who's dodging and weaving around you. It's more than we have, sure, but it's still not quite ranged combat. What guardians have is great ways to keep you in one spot or to be able to keep up with you when you move around. Warriors have.... Engage.

Angels don't die really fast, I think it takes Daevos around 10 swings to kill Amaru's angel. tongue.gif
