Wow that sounds very good! Reminds me in a way of the Final Fantasy Series *shrug* I agree with Soll about the Viravain song, it sounds more 'darkish' though, I thought it'd be more funky and crazy (because that's kinda what Viravain is like right?).
Other than that, keep it up! With these music bits (and the racial portraits), a new dimension of feeling will be added to Lusternia.

Ahah, I thought that too. I knew I forgot something. The Lusternia one really reminded me of Final Fantasy, though FF7 in particular, which is weird because it's the one I've played the least.

Urguard
Okay here is what I have so far for the urguard tune, please criticize. I dont really like how it gets upbeat but I was having a hard time coming up with something evil. Oh yeah and I am new at this so sometimes its hard for me to drag a song out because I have to write up more melodies.

I like this one too. It's doesn't scream "EVIL!" but the Ur'guard aren't necessarily that way. It has a nice warrior-militaristic feel to it.

Maybe add some lower-toned drums, or layer some bass strings to give it a deeper, darker feel? I like the driving rhythm thoughout.
Fain2005-04-28 02:13:20
If you guys donate 500 US dollars to me, I will add all the dark sounding drums you want. THIS IS WHAT I WANT YOU TO BUY ME
Silvanus2005-04-28 02:14:24
You know, there is something called real instruments...
Fain2005-04-28 02:17:38
Actually I'll even take the silver addition! Click Here C'mon guys!!!!!
Fain2005-04-28 02:19:32
Oh yeah silvanus... they are real instruments. Just recorded
Silvanus2005-04-28 02:22:19
No, they are definitely not
Vix2005-04-28 02:30:57
Heh. Write your music up on a score and submit it to some random high school band. Record. Ta da!
Fain2005-04-28 02:41:21
Oh you mean the ones in my pieces? Ya they are fake, some are taken from recordings. I want to buy that set though, all professional quality samples recorded by a real concert orchestra.
Silvanus2005-04-28 02:45:09
I was referring to, you are writing music and selecting what goes which.
Not actually learning how to play the instrument, you are the composer without the orchestra.

I'd lower the volume on the trumpets (or what I assume they are) a bit, so they don't sound quite so fake. Or, add in something to offset it...I'm tentative to suggest a string instrument.
Do Nihilists instead! *urge*

Listened to them all, they seem ok, I have a couple of suggestions, but I will keep quiet till I can get to my studio monitors to see what they sound like on there.
For a first timer they are definitely good.
EDIT: and I am not basing my judgement on artistic merit. What you think is right, is right for you music, and how it should flow. My comments will be purely technical comments from a producer point of view.
Some of my initial thoughts are you EQing is a bit off on the percussions they seem to bleed too much. But like I said, I need my studio monitors to listen to them properly.

Oooh. I wonder if I could find a "free" version of that. Doesn't seem likely yet, but I'll keep searching.
The examples they gave sound nice though..

I like the Ur'guard one. I can actually visualize the Warlord coming over some steep hill in slow motion, his dark and tainted warriors in tow. Murphy, eyes lowered, gripping his overpowered flails, Alger romping around with his rapiers..yeah. Pretty nice. *grin*
Okay, Serenguard's turn!

Some things I need to learn.. I definitely need to learn how to pan mix better. Also I -really- need better samples I try to make do with these soundfonts for now.
Anyway I will start working on another short tune sometime soon, not sure yet what it will be.

I finally figured out what Viravain's reminded me of...
A Banjo Kazooie remix of Mad Monster Mansion and Click Clock Wood.
Seriously!
Anyone? Anyone?
Sorry Fain (I like them a lot if that helps)
Not that I don't like the other music anyway. It's just a reasonable matter for bears to associate things with bears. Dark lord's music about the crazy goddess, Banjo... you know.

It sounds like Age of Wonders, 1 and 2. And FF too, a little.
Yes, it's a good thing.
EDIT: It reminded me to play FF6 again. I'll try it without saves this time - see you all in 10-15 hours.
