Pretty nice, though to me the theme to Lusternia will always be Overture To a Brass Drama. I've got a thing for small instrumentation pieces, on the side, anyway.

Like I said, nice job, but you're no Tom Kershaw. No offense, that man is a genius.

Love them, though you need more/better drum samples.

ok the bleed might not be an EQing issue, I think you are sitting everything to high in the mix. Don't be scared about not being able to hear each individual sound, pseudoharmonics means that people notice it even if they can't hear it, and they notice if its not there. Your bottom end is definitely something that is coming through to high in the mix. Is your bottom end all one track? Try splitting it and panning it either side of center, and dropping it lower. A lot of things sound like they are competing for space in the mix, but it could just be that they are all too high, they may be panned correctly but losing the space the panning gives them. But anyway I still say they are really good for a beginner, most people who start, never even get as good as your first few tracks are produced.

EDIT: And once the bottom end is lower and wider in the mix, if you are not hearing what you want, EQ it, try not to be tempted to just bring it up the mix.

The brain can only do this when it expects the sound to be there in the first place. It doesn't just make noise that fits in with music like magick cool.gif.

I'm pretty sure you are right, looks like most of my instrument levels are too high.. I'll revisit some of these songs and see if I can tweak them with improvements. Thanks AlyssandraAbSidhe for the pointers. Know any places I can get a good set of free orchestral samples?
Unknown2005-04-29 06:15:45
You are more than welcome. There are not that many good free ones about, unfortunately. I will make some enquiries for you and see what I can dig up. Anything in particular you are after.

No the sound is there, just below what you hear, it still sits in the harmonics it still effects the space in the track, and if its not there, you would notice the difference between the two pieces, even though you couldnt here the difference. I was talking about the distinction between making it sound right compared to a track without it there. Which you do notice.

Fun fact: In two days Fain's music has used ~350 megs of bandwidth.. 140 hits of Viravain's theme, 114 of Lusternia's, and 60 of the Ur'Guard.

Ah sorry the way you described it I thought you were talking about a psychological process I read a little bit about where the brain 'fills in' missing sounds that it expects to hear, even though another sound is physically blocking that sound out.

I liked both of them biggrin.gif I can totally see some creepy, tainted goddess walking down some path to the first one... it just fits in my mind. And the Lusternia one is awesome too!
Fain2005-04-30 04:54:24
Alyssandra- mostly what i am looking for is -very- high quality brass and string samples, and maybe one set of nice orchestral percussion.
Unknown2005-04-30 06:32:45
I will poke around and see what I can dig up for you.

Revan is an awesome DJ <3

Fain, if it isn't too much trouble, could you edit the first post with all your finished works so I don't have to sift through the other pages to find them? smile.gif

Nah, Revan > Everyoneelse.

Although at least Laysus doesn't scream down the mic. (He just breathes down it really really loudly. roflmao.gif)
