Back to The Real World.

Amaru2005-04-27 20:48:49
I didn't.

*peer*

I'm talking about governments here, no point blaming Silvanus for Iraq (unless he was fighting there) or you or I for slavery.

Anyway I'm off to bed nice and early to get a good night.
Manjanaia2005-04-27 20:49:45
Yeah good point.

Unfortunately I am not in the country to vote. First time I have missed it since I was eligible to vote.

Keep the pounds sad.gif

I still have skills to trans and artifacts to purchase!
Iridiel2005-04-28 11:49:30
I am not british, but my opinion regarding as big an europe as we can is positive. Mostly because otherwise you'll end up having to compete with macro-countries the size of continents, and you only are a little island smile.gif
Didn't know there were so many playing from there, though smile.gif
Shiri2005-05-06 05:01:38
Settles that then.
Amaru2005-05-06 15:52:07
NECROER.

It's okay. At least he's pro-Europe.

I was reading in the Bagkok Post, and on People's Daily (the single 2 best news sources EVER!) about there was some kind of animosity between the US and the new rising unified Europe. I think the news headline was like, "New Rising Europe to overthrow what many see as An Evil Empire?"
I'm curious to know the opinions of you Europeans on this issue... I hope you understand what I'm talkin about.
Amaru2005-05-06 16:48:51
Well, there's quite a bit of excitement about the new 'Euro-generation' of young Europeans who feel a common sense of identity in light of the recent integration. 'United States of Europe' is a long way off, but the EU is stronger than the US already in economic terms, and the gap grows larger the closer the nation states integrate.

There's recently been some controversy over the new plane designs of Airbus and Boeing, a kind of trade war between the EU and US where each have taken the other to the WTO, accusing one another of illegal state subsidies to dominate the trade battle.

So the EU may be a strong competitor to the USA in economic terms, but where political influence is involved, the USA is clearly far more of a world power. That isn't likely to change either; Europe and Indochina are happy to watch on as the US polices the world for their sake.

Only one way to decide:

British Election

One of the funniest AND most harmless things I've seen in ages. The music just added perfectly to it.
Unknown2005-05-06 18:20:47
My second biggest problem with America is we use the WTO as another weapon.. I am so glad Hu Jintao stuck it to us and told us to go suck one, when we threatened China with our WTO stick... he's the man.
wub.gif Jinjin
I fear the day we say " we're going to war with someone else.." and the Eu and all our allies say "ok, have fun, we dont want to play this time." and we get owned... you know it will happen!
As for as the trade disputes... Airbus should win it, in my opinion they got the blueprint copyrights and began construction AND went public first, plus airbus is willing to aide the One China movement, while Boeing is not.
Amaru2005-05-06 18:55:51
It's all pretty interesting. I have to be only slightly racist and say that while I'm not completely against world Americanisation, I would hate for things to start appearing everywhere in Chinese and Hindi.

*waves western flag*
Karrah2005-05-07 17:10:14
*peer Amaru* I -know- you know what race I am. Don't be pushin' it.
Unknown2005-05-07 17:31:06
What race are you Karrah?
I HATE world americanization... if one more little thai kid walks up to me and says "wassup man!?" I'm going to scream... I mean it has it's upsides like Wong Lee Holm, and The foreign music that adapts to our style, but it also has many downsides. Question is if the upsides of " American Hyper Cultural Imperialism" as it has been dubbed, are worth the downsides, especially for the future.
Personally if I got me some signs aroud in MSC I wouldn't mind, I think the US needs more foreign influence. It would help open our eyes, and I'm sick of paying double for my foreign books and stuff because of tarrifs...
Amaru2005-05-07 17:41:50
I know Karrah, and I'm really not racist in the slightest. I have tons of non-western friends, and my area is the most ethnically diverse in the country. It'd just be a massive culture shock to me if world westernisation turned into easternisation. Not saying it'd be a bad thing for the world, just that it would be a huge and strange shock to me, I wouldn't be comfortable.
Shiri2005-05-07 18:28:01
Yeah, Amaru, that's my only problem with the Euro, really. Europisation. huh.gif Wouldn't be comfortable with it. (I'm extremely picky. Same reason I haven't switched to zMUD.)
Amaru2005-05-07 18:39:33
I'm pretty comfortable with Europe though.

Isn't it time this annoying moderating approval thing was lifted?
Unknown2005-05-07 18:49:17
What would Europisation look like? I'm reallt noy trying to sound rude here, but I would imagine people speaking the Eur-English instead of the ghetto ebonics they try for now, and things like a Mc'Fish 'n' Chips or...well thats it.
Hmm Shiri?
I would love to see some more easternisation. If nothing else just to balance the world out. China gets to import cars to the US, starting 2008 I believe, or was it 05-06? That's a start?
Malicia2005-05-09 13:31:47
I should direct the feds to this thread. Damn British conspirators! biggrin.gif

What's with that link, Amaru?! Democracy doesn't come easily. To hear some of the soldiers tell it, the people are grateful for the American involvement in removing Saddam from power. I have mixed feelings on the war. Just remember, not all Americans are patriotic. /hijack
