I dunno it might suck but I kinda think it should be par for the course that when you establish a new city/commune mid-game you do not recieve some kind of divine intervention that makes your lives a little easier. It's hard work and it should be hard work.

Well, hard work is one thing.. This is another.

You're right though, we are defenceless. That doesn't mean we will always be so. When we can slap them back, it'll be fun and the raids will slow down.

It's not a rant at all
I'm just concerned because I've got one friend who's ready to quit out of frustration, and one or two more who are headed that way. It's not a personal issue, either, as I don't mind dying at this point.
Malicia2005-04-29 13:47:42
Your friends are threatening to quit? Hmmm, I wonder if you cared about the number of novices of the Serenwilde that wanted to quit when you'd singlehandedly trample through the forest, killing everyone. You had a lot of fun in the beginning, didn't you?
Erion2005-04-29 13:51:36
Aww, Malicia! You're ruining his fun!
Tables turn. We'll get our day.

No one is 'picking' on Glom. They kill the fae and whine about the repercussions. I should also mention that it isn't only the Serens that strike at Glomdoring. Celestians do it as well. Good luck taking on the world.
You should all just listen to Daganev. Stay out of Faethorn. Serenwilde will stay out of your forest. Don't know about those Celestians though!

Celest is helping Seren oppose Glom?
It would be surprising if Magnagora and Glomdoring DON'T end up as allies. And I thought Celest couldn't get more stupid.

Just as long as everyone realises that Glom being defenceless and being annihilated is the fault of either 1) Glomdoring for not allying with Magnagora or 2) The coders for not giving them guards or defences, whatever.
Not the players. To spare Glomdoring at any stage would just be weak roleplay for many players.

Celest has every reason to attack glomdoring, since they're tainted...
Don't come bitching when we end up as allies though, so far magnagora stomped both celest and serenwilde effortless into the ground time after time, regardless of whether they teamed or not, glomdoring helping us and vice versa won't have a positive effect for you.

Completely seperate situation. Serenwilde had defences in the form of *lots* of guards, totems, and tons of people. The Seren probably had twice as many people as Glom currently has. It was also just me, and I wasn't setting up a demesne in enemy territory. The demesne is the big thing, I'd argue.
Plus I got a total of like 3 trees.

First off, I've never said Glomdoring is being picked on. Can we keep this thread civil? This isn't "whining", I'm trying to offer a calm, reasonable perspective on the matter.
As for the Faethorn, even if we stay out, Serenwilde still demesnes ethereal Glom and continues to raid and chop down trees. So that's not the cause

1) Glom is prettymuch allied with Magnagora. 75% of our defence is coming from them at this point, and if there's a demesne that needs cleared they've got to do it.
2) We did actually get guards last night, which was nice. The problem is we can't afford them in sufficient quantities to be effective, and without bonded/runed totems they're prettymuch toast on their own. It's a combination of factors, but the biggest one is time.
As for the roleplay, I agree. Hence why this thread is directed at the administration, more than the players. I wouldn't ask you guys to give us slack, it's all IC. But optimally I think some OOC mechanisms could use some modification, at least until we get a decent chunk of totems set up.

I'm not making Glomdorians out as martyrs. I am, however, contesting your claim that it's hard work. Hard work implies that we have to, unsurprisingly, work hard. That's not the case. Anything we can work on, we do work hard on. Gathering crow shadows, essence, etc, we are all very diligent about. But when it comes to defence, it is simply not possible for us to mount a capable opposition. There's nothing "hard work" can do for us.

When I said I hoped they had an ace up their sleeve for tonight/tomorrow, that's what I'm hoping they're planning. Having druids and a way to remove demesnes without yelling at A_Geomancer_001 would go a long way... But if we're not going to get Druids for a week or two more, something else should probably be done to balance things out in the meantime.

I didn't suggest that you will get the results you want at this point, working hard doesn't always get you what you want. I just do not think that it would be fair to the players as a whole for Glomdoring to have its hand held while it grows and, honestly, I think it would be better for the people of Glomdoring to struggle and form strong ties and a little modern history to work from that is all their own, not handed to them on a Divine silver platter.
