Just saw it, loved it.

I loved the books. Loved the PC text game (yes, like Lusternia, a game only in text ). And I know I won't like the film from what you're saying, but I'll be going to see it just because it's something that must be done.
Like going to see StarWars C.III. I'll get out of the cinema complaining about everything and more, but I have to go and see it or I won't be able to criticize afterwards.

The screenplay, while changed a little, is still very reminiscent of the SAME screenplay Douglas Adams himself wrote.

It's the same one. The opening credits said he's the one who wrote this movie's screenplay.
I'd say the movie was mildly entertaining. Granted, I thought the book was dumb. (If I want a good laugh I'll read Terry Brooks' "Landover" series since that also has plot, characterization, intrigue, and many other things lacking in the Adams books while retaining a good amount of humour.) So I actually liked the movie more than the book. Unless you are a big fan of the book, I doubt you will really like the movie. Go rent some "Red Dwarf" episodes if you want quality British sci-fi humour. (Or "Dr. Who", which in a way is an unintentional British sci-fi comedy by virtue of its laughable special effects. That's not to be dissing "Dr. Who", though, since it's still the second greatest TV sci-fi series ever made, following the heels of the original "Star Trek".)

There's a review by Kevin Smith on-line (director of Dogma, Clerks, etc.) in which he says Star Wars Episode III is 'f-ing' awesome. Very dark, much better than 1 and 2. I'm interested.
I saw Hitchhiker, and I liked it, but I didn't think it was great. I love the opening song.
And Roark, it IS Adams' screenplay, but little things like dialogue, etc., have been altered without his approval.

Roark if I wasn't married, had kids, and interested in women, i'd camp out on your doorstep until you married me.
On topic, I was going to go see it but since every book that's ever been made into a movie (IMO) has SUCKED serious ass, i'm going to pass. Same with Sahara, sorry but Mat Mc and his Costar just don't make realistic Dirk Pitt and Al Giordano's to me
