Is alchemy the only trade that has a chance of failing at making what they want? I am just curious. I hate sugar.
Aebrin2005-04-30 09:27:44
Well forgers and cooks have a chance of getting mercury from coal...
Ialie2005-04-30 09:29:37
Cutting gems in jewelry is entirely random. You have to cut A LOT! To get a resonable stock of the gems you need.
Unknown2005-04-30 09:31:57
Ah ok, I was just wondering if we alchemists were the only ones to waste money from time to time.

Herbalists gets Spices
Alchemists gets Sugar, and use Mercury, and Powerstones
Cooks get Mercury, and use Spices and Sugar.
Jewelers get gems randomly, and Powerstones.
Forgers get Mercury, random stats., and use gems
Advantages in green, disadvantages in red.
Most of one trade's disadvantages fund another trade. *shrug* Works pretty well like that.

You get mercury in cooking when you just fire the coal so it's more of an advantage 'cuz you can trade it for sugar, whereas in alchemy the failure comes at the end, which = bigger losses.

Also, some of our gem clusters crack into salt and sulfur. Yay 100 gold + bag of utterly useless salt *laugh*
Woops, didn't read down far enough to see that had already been said.
*grin* Sorry

BTW...can the trans jewelry skill do -something- useful?
maybe like...MASTERCUT so its not random (i know thats overpowered but i can ask) ...or MASTERCUT doesnt give salt and sulfur?
i waste so much gold on gems...more than alchemist i can assure you

As for the herbal failure, this may or may not be a bug (the message indicates the spice REPLACES the herb, when it in fact does not) but when you pick a herb and get the "That was not the herb you thought after all. It was some spices!" message, the herb count in the room doesn't actually fall.
Unknown2005-04-30 17:48:30
I'd like to see the chance of getting salt or sulfur lowered. It was about 30% last I tested, which is silly, I end up with tons of useless .
Also, trans skill (transfix gem) is probably the worst of all tradeskills.
