I agree about the trans jewelry skill being useless. eat faeleaf which almost everyone does, and its absulutely useless. Are there any other trans trade skills that are rendered useless somehow?
Athana2005-05-01 01:51:06
I think they just hate jewelers -sniffle-
Gwylifar2005-05-01 01:54:08
Trans Poisons lets you be immune to any one poison except the one everyone uses, which for some reason you can't be immune to. So not quite totally useless, but awfully close, as you can go through a year's fights and not once get that immunity to take effect.
Unknown2005-05-01 01:56:13
Maybe they don't want to waste time to even think about that.
There's a lot of other things to do I guess.

Can you change it on a whim, or do you only get to choose once when you reach transcendent?
Shiri2005-05-01 02:04:00
Herbs gives you faster herb balance.
Pretty good. Not awesome, but pretty good.
Alchemist one is AWESOME good, L1 sip bonus.
Anyway, maybe the jewel will work in a Shadowdancer with choke and scource.

why not use web instead? isnt it exactly the same as transfix but the gem is stopped by faeleaf?
Elryn2005-05-01 02:05:53
I would agree that Jewelry and Poisons have the least helpful transcendent benefit.
In my opinion, they are also both the least essential of the trades.

Just like to third the motion that the Jewelry trans skill is utterly useless. I wish I had stopped at crowns...
Athana2005-05-01 02:06:53
least essential! pah, what would everyone put their enchants on with no jewelery
and no vials either...except from bob not to metion armour and weapons would be ugly
EDIT: me too Rauros

Don't you also get 20 puffs in a pipe?

In theory, web and transfix stack I think. You could, also in theory, transfix whole bunch of people in one move, because it's a room effect (enemies or declared I think).
But it's all just a theory.

I think you have to be on-eq and on-bal to writhe off transfixion, and you can't eat and stuff either. (Right?) Or maybe just one of those. I only got transfixed a couple times in Achaea and it might be different here anyway.
And jewellery is NOT a useless skill AT ALL. It's good. It's just the last one that sucks.
Yes, I also get 20 puffs per pipe, but that doesn't matter at all really. It just saves me a faeleaf and coltsfoot every 10.
Unknown2005-05-01 02:14:46
And the gem doesn't even strip blindness...
Elryn2005-05-01 02:15:40
Aye, I didn't say it was useless, just the least essential. Its used for enchantments, sure... though it would be nice if we weren't -quite- so good at crafting things to last. ~200 months for jewelry, contrasted to ~40 months for tailoring.
Meh, anyway, its only the trans skill that needs work.

Well a diamond ring would last longer than a t-shirt
Rhysus2005-05-01 02:18:11
Anyone with the slightest grasp of economic theory could have told you that all meaningful tradeskill trade was lucky to have lasted this long. The model Lusternia uses and the way it is set up simply doesn't provide an environment for stable economic growth in small world environments. If there were about five times as many people active in the realm at any given time, the model would work very well. Unfortunately, this is not the case, so the system breaks down and the problems you are currently bemoaning inevitably crop up.

QUOTE(Shiri @ Apr 30 2005, 01:46 PM)
As for the herbal failure, this may or may not be a bug (the message indicates the spice REPLACES the herb, when it in fact does not) but when you pick a herb and get the "That was not the herb you thought after all. It was some spices!" message, the herb count in the room doesn't actually fall.
110638
I don't believe that's a bug for the following reason:
If you look at a room and see 10 herbs, and you mistakenly harvest spices instead of that herb, there are two possibilities, one is that you identified those spices as one of the ten in your original count (which would mean there are truly 9 herbs in the room) the other is that you did not include it in your count (which raises the question of why you harvested it in the first place). If the first option were the case, we would sometimes have a room that has only one herb in it that is actually spices. If this scenario were to arise, that room should not grow new herbs, as there are no actual herbs in it. This never happens, which suggests that the PLANTS syntax always counts the true number of herbs in the room, and ignores any spices.
Sylphas2005-05-01 02:30:36
I believe it's a bug because Estarra said so. I think that trumps logic. And it damn well should. Instead of being a failure, spices are just a bonus. I'd love if I got potions AND sugar, but no, I waste 100 galingale for a bit of sugarr.
Unknown2005-05-01 02:31:21
What would make it work better in your opinion? I'm hoenstly curious. I did do some basic economics, but I never was interested enough in it to pay too much attention.
Shiri2005-05-01 02:31:41
It is, however, a bug, because Estarra said it is.
Sorry, man.
