Guildwars good. I remember playing it back in Open Beta. And got my copy of the released version last night. I love that game LOL

::mutters:: Wife told me NO. Said I can't spend fifty dollars on a Game especially one thats going to glue my eyes to the computer every night until 4am
Unknown2005-05-05 15:37:20
Tell wife is free to play? Don't even have the credit lure? *grin*

Tell her a friend said "pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaassssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" so you can come play with us there LOL.
Unknown2005-05-05 21:54:28
She knows it's free to play, she just worries that i'll sit in front of the computer from 9 at night until 4 in the morning. Which doesn't make any sense because I currently sit in front of one of the seven systems we have and play until four in the morning. I think she just doesn't want me playing freaky mud games with people. Also I don't think telling my wife that a woman I know from the online game I play at work told me to tell you please is going to score me any points. Might let me sleep on the couch for a week or so but get the game, somehow I don't see that happening

Have any of you got up to the Gates of Kryta mission?

That. Mission. Is. Insane.
Unknown2005-05-06 00:10:33
Hehe not yet. Made it just past the first two bits after going to the 'future'... and my video driver went nuts and looped. So gotta go back and try that one again *mutter*
Raezon2005-05-06 00:12:17
I thought about getting it, but I played both the VERY early open beta and the later one... and the world just seems so linear. More like playing a video game that advances than an open-ended world like WoW. Has that changed a lot?
Unknown2005-05-06 00:55:45
This game is far less linear than WoW in my opinion. WoW is just huge, but still very simple and linear. The quests are all "collect X" "kill y" "Go to Z". Guild Wars has a much more immersive story, in my opinion.

I did not play it in Beta, but apparently it has come a long way since then.

EDIT: Another thing I like about is is that the quality of your character is based more around your own choices and skills (and experience playing, of course) rather than how much gold you spend on your equipment. Equipment still makes a difference, but it won't save you in a 4 v 4 PvP battle with a Mesmer hexing you with Conjure Phatasm and a Warrior kicking your arse tongue.gif.
Shamarah2005-05-06 01:26:12
IMO, the best thing is the strategical aspect and how it actually takes skill to succeed. You've got to combine your skills effectively and with the skills of your teammates to succeed offensively and defensively, particularly in PVP but also in PVE.

See, you only get to have 8 skills out of all the ones you have available at one time. You put them on your bar before a mission/fight, and you have to choose the most effective combo of skills for the effect you want to achieve. All the different professions do different stuff - Rangers kill with bows and animals and the like, Warriors with swords and shouts for bonuses and stuff, Elementalists with mostly pure damage - "nukers", Mesmers disable enemies - they're the counter-all, Monks are primarily healers, and Necromancers are support caster people.

I saw guildwars in E3 a year or two ago, and then played the Open Beta later on, and I can tell you, many of the complaints people had from E3 were fixed and changed in open beta, so I would not be surprised if some of those things were fixed in the final version. Is it possible to get a demo of the final version or do you just have to buy it?
Annelia2005-05-06 06:20:04
There is no demo that I know of sad.gif
Shamarah, yeah that mission was insane. So much fun though I got to play with a war monk happy.gif Upto Druid's Overlook with my monk, and Yak's Bend with my elementalist.
Main thing I am doing is trying to unlock skills, so I can play with them all in PvP. Also trying to get my monk to see the world biggrin.gif

Traded in 25 of my ps2 games (ones i've beaten) got close to 200 dollars. Got the game and it runs slower then a paralyzed monkey on depressants. Grouping will be a pain in the arse. I love it when I walk into bow range for a group of bears and my computer starts loading or whatever and next thing I know there are five bears around me and my health is at 23. Long live sucky computers!!1 Viva La Resuckness

Quick question to those who have played it longer. Was I supposed to do Tyradis missions first? I've been wandering around doing a bunch of different quests
Shamarah2005-05-09 19:10:24
Tyradis mission... what, do you mean the one that the guy at the beginning of the game in Ascalon gives you? You should walk around and do the quests in the countryside first, because after you do that mission, there's no going back.
Unknown2005-05-09 19:19:08
Gotcha, I did a bunch, can't find anymore, except for the candle mission in the catacombs and the wayward wizard mission. . I also need to find someone willing to deal with my slow ass computer so I can get the signet in the begining

Side note, I made a Ranger/Mesmer, seems go good so far. Least i've only died three times and all three were because my comp froze while it tried to keep up and when it unfroze I was surrounded and almost dead.
