Depends whether Aslarans will get specialised eventually. If not, then like taurian, an upgrade is in order since it is now inferior to a steroid loaded faeling in all aspects.
Alger2005-05-01 10:24:29
if ever there was a place theyd get a specialization from i think it would be the greymoors... but thats out already.
Unknown2005-05-01 10:28:34
Ya'll shall fear the day when the Dwarves get their holds back, and get specialization, i mean, your all gonna Fear the Dwarven Warriors -with- Specializations! But that's never going to happen... or will it!
Silvanus2005-05-01 15:26:03
I didn't know what to give the Aslarans.
Gwylifar2005-05-01 15:42:35
The most interesting things would be a few racial-color feline things previously proposed: landing on your feet when you fall, grooming to clean like SCRUB without water, and maybe a POUNCE attack that knocks down. The most strategically balancing thing would be to get rid of the damned sip penalty (uberfaelings get a sip bonus and are faster!).
Malicia2005-05-01 15:47:31
NONE for the ELFEN? Aaaiee.
I'd say we should get +2 to STR!

Thorgal2005-05-01 15:53:10
Psh, then you'd have as much strength as a viscanti, but none of the penalties.

Couldn't agree more.

Malicia everytime you say "Aaaiee" I get this funny mental image of a forest warrioress swinging through the trees.

Aslaran: STATISTICS:
Strength : 11 Dexterity : 17 Constitution: 11
Intelligence: 14 Charisma : 14 Size : 12
ADVANTAGES:
o Have a racial language, aslari.
o Recover balance more quickly, level 2.
o Have level 2 mana regeneration.
o Heal faster from plants, level 1.
DISADVANTAGES:
o Are susceptible to fire, level 2.
o Gain experience more slowly, level 1.
o Find it harder to wake up, level 2.
o Heal more slowly from elixirs, level 1.
Important edit: I changed the health regen to level 2 mana regen.

I like it, but even better would be:
Aslaran: STATISTICS:
Strength : 11 Dexterity : 16 Constitution: 11
Intelligence: 14 Charisma : 14 Size : 11
ADVANTAGES:
o Have a racial language, aslari.
o Recover balance more quickly, level 2.
o Will always land on their feet when falling.
o 50% chance of immediately getting back up when knocked to the ground.
o Can GROOM instead of scrubbing to cleanse yourself.
DISADVANTAGES:
o Have slower herbbalance, level 1.
o Gain experience more slowly, level 1.
o Heal more slowly from elixirs, level 1.
o Are susceptible to fire, level 2.
o Find it harder to wake up, level 2.

Too strong for a non-specialized race, and especially too strong if Blademasters get upgraded.
Thorgal2005-05-01 16:20:44
Psh, they got an extra disadvantage, one skill is just a levitation replacement, groom is a cleanse replacement, and the other is a downgraded version of the IRE balancing skill. Wouldn't be too powerful at all!
Shiri2005-05-01 17:14:42
The levitation thing is very powerful. It means that two of the key effects of Geomancer demesnes, tremor and lodestone, will not affect them. And rockslide will suck as a result. I can forgive you for overlooking that as you probably don't fight a lot of them though. *ponder*
Anyway - Furrikin should either get enough INT to make it useful (3) or have a +1eq. That's what I'd like to see for them. :/

Silvanus2005-05-01 17:21:13
I don't see Furrikin as a race you use to fight, just as humans is not very viable as a fighter, or even Lucidian.
Shiri2005-05-01 17:32:28
Lucidian should be when Hallifax comes out.
Human and Furrikin - I really disagree. Every race should have combat viability, Furrikin included. Faeling would have too, except now they're a specialisation race.

These are interesting from a mechanical balance standpoint. But they don't seem at all feline to me. In fact, they seem to take the paradox (aslaran are described as excelling at physical professions, but are actually better at less-physical ones) and make it even worse.

I don't think the "land on your feet" thing should work like levitation. It shouldn't protect against those things, I don't think. It should only come into play when you're falling from a height, as in out of a tree, or if you're flying and forced to stop. I don't think it'd apply to things that knock you down when you're on the ground already (like bonecrusher knockdown or tremors), even in cases where a levitate defense currently does. At least, that's what I was proposing.
So "land on your feet" is just a free considerably lesser version of Levitate enchantments, and "groom" is just a free considerably lesser version of a Cleanse enchantment. Neither of them will really help me or almost any fighting aslaran save in that they'll save a few coins now and then. They're mostly meant for flavor and because they make sense for a feline; and they might help aslaran who are just getting started.
A knocking-down "pounce" would actually be useful, but if its balance time is long enough that you can't keep someone down permanently, then it's really not a big deal. Again, it's mostly for flavor.
