Yeah, same time every day.

And Shiri, RM does the same thing RN does for news. tongue.gif

I think messages should be messages, not a hyper-tell. It could have a single in game month before it travels to the recipient. That way, messages could still be used, but it wouldn't be the basic "skip communication channels" thing it is now. Also, you could fire off a few messages and leave or do other things, and it would be a lot less like cutting off a discussion.

In character I prefer to meet or, if I need to, send a letter, rather than use a message (unless something explicitly asks for it).

And Shiri, if you don't have any unread messages, then just RL (read last), look at the message number, then do MESSAGES (#-20)

Letters are useful for sending long messages, as well. The way I see it, messages are for quick little notes, and letters are for big essays and applications etc.
Iridiel2005-05-11 08:59:41
I use messages as memos: msg Althana Remember to take a look at that new shop in Celest.
Or when I need to inform somebody of something short, like a novice misbehaving, and I am not in the mood to send a letter that who knows when will be read (sometimes you don't notice them coming and they stay in your inventary until the day you check how many letters you have there. Msgs are always noticed.
But yes, I find they're an OOC system, even if you can write messages IC, and you should keep them IC if they're not to a friend who already talks ooc with you. Otherwise the other person wouldn't understand it wink.gif

I would like to be able to recieve messages, but not send them. Then you can only send really realy important stuff (Cause it costs money) and you could only save the importanter ones.
Richter2005-05-11 23:21:50
Yeah, I memo myself too.

And having them in-system for a month is stupid.

I logged off the other day, logged back on for a second to see something, and I see Daganev has left you message #blah.

If it had sat there for a month... obviously, I wouldn't have known what he was telling me when I got back.

I've never understood mud communication systems. I mean the only things that are really IC are "say" and "yell", because "tell" will go to someone over almost any distance, and shout will tell just about everyone in the whole world, and lets not even talk about the channels. So yes messages are OC but so are most forms of communication.

Just as a side note, does anyone use letters at all? I've never used them because (A they cost money, (B They take a long time, and (C If the person your mailing doesn't check their mail it could sit there for weeks. doh.gif So I just use msgs instead. wub.gif

Another thing I saw on here is, that people seem to use msgs for the same purpose you're given a journal for at the start of the game. Though the journal is a BIG pain in the arse to use. I don't remember Achaea's journal being so nasty. But it might be MC because I used the Java client for Achaea.

Sorry for the hijack there I just felt like ranting. ranting.gif

Cheers all! And here is your drinking smiley of the day! cheers.gif
Daganev2005-05-12 01:17:49
I always use Java when I want to write posts or use my journal
Iridiel2005-05-12 09:58:14
I am so not going to fill my journal with notes like "remember you helped mrs trundle a while ago, go back checking at the cubs in a few days"
Exarius2005-05-12 16:47:43
If I was going to savage one form of communication as being innapropriately OOC, I'd have to defer messages in favor of channels. Not just instant communication over any distance and sometimes planes, but MASS instant communication.
Richter2005-05-12 19:15:55
Channels are one of those things the game needs, and to hell with the RP of it. Can you imagine the mass confusion of us not having ct, gnt, etc?

And about letters, I got one last night from someone, and I was impressed. It was mroe formal and IC than a message, he gets props for doing it.
Unknown2005-05-13 06:29:51
I wasn't saying that the system is bad I just ment that it wasn't worth bothering about msgs because when compared to the others it's pretty IC.
Bau2005-05-13 08:33:26
As a Trademistress, and as Guildmistress, I always encourage letters over messages. Letters are a lot easier to read, (and easier to remember I have them, as I constantly check my inventory, score, stat, et cetera). I had designs sent in letters, I asked for applications in letters, I (really) like letters. biggrin.gif
Ialie2005-05-13 08:43:51
I think we should leave a good thing alone.
