I'm not sure why it isn't this way already, but could there be a way to gain karma through influencing? Perhaps positive influence battles, like empower or seduce (?) could give the equivalent amount of karma as offering them.
As I understand it, influencing is supposed to be an alternative to bashing. It is fairly subpar in most (though not all) areas, so we don't really need another drawback to influence.

So when you lose an influence battle you lose Karma as well?
Elryn2005-05-06 11:28:40
Do you lose karma when you die to a creature?
Drago2005-05-06 11:42:05
So you could, say, influence the creature. Gain Karma.
Then kill it, offer it and gain more Karma?

Yep. Just like you can get twice the amount of experience.

Is that a bad thing?

Most influencable creatures aren't on the bashing list, though, unless I'm mistaken.
Faethorn denizens, villagers, guards seem to be the most of what gets influenced - as far as I know... Anyone say different?
And thus, you're not exactly going to be reaping the benefits of, say, influencing a dwarf in a village, then killing it. You get enemied, and attacked by both village and city, etc...
Maybe some quests involving influencing could be useful too?
Most basic example I can think of.. Villager 1 says, Oh, poor Villager 2, she's so upset about losing her. I wish someone could cheer her up!
Player goes and compliments Villager 2, completes quest, gains karma.
Very basic

All these would be very nice, but from what I've seen the administration rarely addresses issues with influencing and neglects the skillset quite heavily outside of the village influence system. I've pretty much given up hope of most of influence's potential being realized.
Gwylifar2005-05-08 01:03:58
It might just be a project that hasn't floated to the top of the to-do list.
Elryn2005-05-10 03:26:57
One other thing that would be REALLY wonderful, aside from karma:
Make it so that if you start an influence battle with a denizen, they don't move until it is completed. Exactly the same as creatures don't keep wandering when you bash them. Its more important for influencing because everytime they move, they go up a level of resistance and become more stubborn.

YES!! PLEASE!!

Some creatures DO keep wandering when you bash them, actually. (Just fight obesefessors on Sagittarius.
...well, get a log of someone else doing it for you. * Elryn*)

Actually, I've fought two of the awful beasties once, though I didn't see them wander.
But it really is quite irritating with influence, because each time they wander the system counts it as you running away. They become more and more difficult to influence, even though you haven't actually done anything.
It also makes little logical sense. Unlike running away from someone trying to kill you, why would you just walk out in the middle of a conversation?
Soll2005-05-10 06:53:55
Cos you're losing, or boring

He has a point, I often walk away from people if they bore me, and starting the conversation back up becomes harder and harder the more they annoy me!
Heh, but no, I agree with you Elryn, that needs looking at.
Elryn2005-05-10 11:01:32
Yeah... but I'm a Faeling.
How can you possibly be bored talking to a Faeling?!

A cascading melody of sound like the ringing of tiny silver bells?
Gwylifar2005-05-10 14:38:13
One reason I wish that the darned buggers would stand still is, it's a pain to keep making new Crusades during village influencing. Still... that's probably why they don't.
Shiri2005-05-10 20:13:59
Even though the stupid sods kept running around before Rhysus even thought up the debating idea (and crusade and sanctuary came into things)?
