Enrage Bugs

Back to Common Grounds.

I know next to no one is interested in this, but in crusading for Taurian balancing I thought I'd share some of the more interesting bugs with the Enrage racial skill.

Sometimes, when I enrage, then burrow, I will strike out at random people, not even on the same plane as me... I swear sometimes they aren't even in realms.
When I LOSE someone right before striking them, I keep hitting them repeatedly about 3 times per second.
Others, when I am astral linking and enrage before I unlink (off balance) there will be an infinite rage timer and I will never strike out against lesser races.
When I conglutinate with this infinite rage going, I lose the strength and the Def line, but still strike out at people.
Enrage hits usually deal about 100 to 300 damage, and are relatively useless offensively (they don't give Status either) but I was chasmed once while enraged and double shielded, I think by Stangmar. In any event, I hit on rage as I was trying to run, and the hit was and instakill. Go figure.

I'm assuming sometimes the instakill/linking/balance timers in the Rapture engine itself get bugged out by enrage, and I have some pretty funny things happen.

Taurians in big numbers should hit for more while enraged... All +6 Taurians of us should perhaps gather sometime, and see if every individual deals more damage or it's only the collective damage. +6 Taurians enraged hitting at once would be like 600 damage? Of course, that assuming the Taurians are immobile, so their balance doesn't interfere with the enrage hitting.

Burrowing is FULL of bugs, so that might not be enraged. You can also look at a lot of weird things, notably, the Hand.

Burrowing's implementation is the most backwards and irrational thing I've ever seen coded. You're going to have to live with the bugs for a while because tracking them all down is impossible. Fortunately, some day it will be rewritten to be an elevation and all will be good. (Yes, believe it or not, burrowing is not considered an elevation from the code's perspective! Which is why it never works.) And that's another reason it doesn't get tracked down: eventually it's incarnation wil be thrown to the scrapheap of history where it belongs and replaced with a correct implementation. (And I'm actually working on the groundwork for that now due to an unrelated project that will create the framework needed to do such a migration.)

Good news, Roark.

Whatever happened to the rooftop elevation I heard you mention for Urban environments?

elevation..........

HES WORKING ON AEROMANCERS, GET HIM
Shiri2005-05-07 02:01:11
No, don't get him, let him get on with it!

Or he might be making burrowing cool! Woo! (Wait, he said unrelated. Damn. ...I can dream though.)
Unknown2005-05-07 03:22:09
Gasp! He's going to make burrowing into a geomancer's demesne deadly to the burrower!
Shiri2005-05-07 03:23:47
It already is, theoretically. Poison, + Lisaera said the taintwyrm ACTUALLY digs people up after envoy.
Typhus2005-05-10 17:45:39
Viscanti are suppose to be able to withstand that though.

Back on topic...

Had you meant that it rises exponentially, or that each would be 100 at a time? Because all of them hitting 600 each would be nice, but hitting 600 together... Why don't you just all hit someone with a sword or something, that'd be like 2400 damage. happy.gif
Typhus2005-05-10 18:27:57
Bah, ignore my post. I mistakenly thought Shiri was refering to the Geomancer himself, not _someone_ else burrowed _within_ his/her demense.

As for Taurian, wouldn't it be nice that after so many Taurian gather, the strength bonus might increase at say 4 taurians for a +1 Str.
