I thought the Grey Moors were a black/white area, but I was wrong. Everyone who talked with the aslaran shaman or found Surtami's happy place will agree with me. It IS a place where two dying races fight with each other over something that has no value! It IS a place where only a soulless person would help any of the sides!
Excellent, I so like such moral decision things.
Also, the orcs in Shallach. Let's start with saying that it's an excellent bashing ground for mid-levels, like my char. To topic: You can leave them alone, but it's not good (remember the "trespassor" sign?), or you can kill them, but it isn't good either. The orclach will use them as shock troops and trap their souls forever. Moral decision again.
Slightly offtopic, orcish braves are a reference to Warhammer, aren't they? "Big'uns" and so. And one of the shadier types of Magnagora guards says "I'm gone" - Starcraft anyone?
Whatever. In conclusion, I appreciate that the bashing grounds aren't filled with cardboard creatures that you just kill for gold&exp (of course, teh good guys will have to kill teh evil orcz, and teh bad guys would slay teh helpless villagers). I like the shades of grey, and I'm hoping for more of it - and more bashing grounds of course. Let's have something for levels 21-40 next.

Agreed on the depth of current bashing grounds.
But we don't need another yet, we need an Astral-equivalent influencing area.

Well i wish someone would hurry up and figure out how to get the last spiggin Keystone, Ciarrus has three outa the four, and i know where they go on the Krokani side *Hum* i wanna see what this power is locked below the Tower... if there is even any, there damn well better be! *brandish* The moors are cool though, i mean i can clear both sides and sit for like 10 minutes and bash them while they spawn, it's decent gold, like 4K a side, if you get em all and such.
On the warhammer stuff, Big 'uns and Braves are quite a bit different, Braves would be more like the normal grunts, Big 'uns are more like Orclach. An if you were talking bout the way they talk, it's Orc language 101, they are not the smartest race. And well on Warhammer references, you could say the Elves are the same, since they're pansies here and there, and well Dwarves rock in both! Ohhh and the closest Warhammer race that the Ur'guard come to are Chaos Space Marines in WH40K.
If there was a astral-equivilant influencing area, it'd soon turn into Astral v 1.02 with non aggressive mobs.

What do you mean?
Unknown2005-05-07 12:42:17
Guards are on the low-astral XP level from what I hear, and if you get a cloak of crow feathers you can always influence the ur'dead knights in Shallach
Unknown2005-05-07 12:46:49
Well if there was a Influeinging equivilant of Astral, it'd have to be non aggressive since i mean, who wants to influence when you have teamy, hurty mobs smacking you. And then if they were passive, you'd be also able to kill em, thus making it Astral Version 1.02, same exp, dont know bout the gold, and better mobs.
Elryn2005-05-07 12:59:32
Ah, good point Tenqual. I'm sure the admin can come up with a way around it though.
And guards are not equivalent to Astral creatures. For one, they are best influenced by empower attacks, meaning you get no gold from them. Also, they are a lower level than the critters, and you don't get a drop of karma from influencing to sustain any blessings that would otherwise help.
Bashing is still superior to influencing. Of course, anyone who can reach titan via influence is welcome to prove me wrong.

Tuek is the one who said they were astral equivilent when time taken is compared to XP yield. Individually, they aren't, but when you can do rooms of them in a matter of minutes, it adds up quick.
Unknown2005-05-07 13:45:08
It is about equivalent to Astral in the amount of time it takes to influence vast numbers of guards, yes, experience wise. However, it produces no gold.
Edit: Forgot to add, there is no equivalent to "critical hits" in influencing either. (There should be!)

I don't believe Lusternia will ever have a plain bashing ground like Moghedu. Estarra is pretty adament about every area having something interesting to do in it.

This is good. I hated Moghedu, it was so boring, so plain, and so lifeless. Astral and the Shallach Ruins are both very interesting places.

I think the Grey Moors are even deeper than you think. There's a lot of history pieces to put together. The struggle isn't simply between the aslaran and krokani: it's much more than that. They're just caught up within it, and with few exceptions, none of them really gets the whole scale of what's going on.
I got those three stones to Ciarrus, but the fourth one is just impossible. It's too soul-crushing to keep working on it. I have pages and pages full of lists and charts to make sure I've tried every combination. I can't even get that stupid loboshigaru to tell me how many more gears are needed.
Usually I don't do quests because the arbitrariness of them is too annoying. Lusternia's are generally better, but the ones in the Moors are a step backwards. The Moors are interesting in terms of history, but the quests are aggravating. They're just like quests in other IRE realms, by and large, in that the steps don't make sense, can't be puzzled out, they're just random combinations of things. There are a few exceptions, but they're not enough to get much done. It's a pity for me since this is the first quest outside the Serenwilde that my character has a reason to work on.
I definitely like the personalities, though. It's nice to see there's shades within both communities, disagreements, even scheming. No single person tells you the whole story or the whole truth. Even all of them put together leave some room for uncertainty on quite a few points. And... how can you not feel sorry for May? We've all known someone like that, I'm sure.

Yea, I enjoyed playing around the various areas, even though there's not been many of them in Lusternia so far. I'm enjoying that quality is being placed before quantity. The quests in the Grey Moors got on my nerves a bit as well, but when I tried them, they were reported as bugged, so perhaps I'll have better luck if I tried again. It's nice to see a threat that's mostly appreciative for once, we need more like this!

Actually, we were hoping the orcs would be suitable for levels 21-40 (or at least 30-40). Out of curiosity, could you list some examples of mobs (animals or whatever that are around in Lusternia) which are suitable for levels 21-40?
Shiri2005-05-07 18:54:10
Orcs aren't really suitable for levels 21-40 because the cities view them as a threat and send people in to eradicate them out of threat of losing their resources, so it's not really something you can "bash" per se.
Rockeaters are good at that sort of level, grubs and leeches too to an extent.
EDIT: I'm told the Blasted Lands have some good things for that level too, but I get paranoid about going there because of Magnagorans jumping me, so you'd have to ask one of them.

Rockeaters, moose, the stuff in Balach?
Manjanaia2005-05-07 18:55:23
Yeah but aren't the ur'guard anti-letting-people-bash-orcs?
Rockeaters are pretty good for 21-40. Leeches aren't too bad if you can kill quick, heal, can breathe water and use insomnia effectively. Ultimate thing for me through those levels was Celest's supplicants quest. Not mobs but it owned. Er... can't think of anything else.

Shallach orcs and rockeaters should be comparatively the same difficulty.

No, they're anti-against-people-bashing-catacombs. Orcs raid the villages, which they can't really stop people killing. And the catacombs are for VERY high level.
Oh, and Vix is insane, you can't bash moose at level 21.
Manjanaia2005-05-07 18:59:12
I'd like to bash them but, again, aren't the ur'guard enemying people bashing them?
