If you notice, Manjanaia, these people don't like the Church either.
Unknown2005-05-08 13:50:47
They don't seem to like very much at all, except their opinions.
Unknown2005-05-08 14:51:44
OMFGosh... That DID NOT just happen...
My little sister left the church for them not letting her preach...shame... she is the best evangalist since Moses.. she singlehandedly converted 20 people once..in like an hour...
I mean honestly what is with Homophobia? Does it hurt you in any way if Mark and Ming are in their room together? It's a sad America I'm having to come home to where the pharmacist turned down my friends hormone therapy pills, poor girl, because she is a man... no she is a girl or she would not be on 2000 miligrams of Estro-something a day...
Pitiful... nerf their freedom of talking like wankers...
"You -DO NOT- have Freedom of Speech, you have Freedom of Speech within the statuette of limitations. Once you step on someone elses foot, freedom to shut your mouth kicks in." Mrs. Ryan, my world history prof when I showed this to her.

Mrs. Ryan sounds like a lovely lady.
Send your friend my love. I'm very glad Australia is not that bad. We have our predjudices, we have our inherint racism and envy, but we let others get on with their lives as long as it doesn't harm ours. More or less, anyway. Our current leadership is obviously not a good example for my argument.

She says thanks, I got her crying in the phone right now as I chil; in Celest... poor thing. The bastardo doesn't know if she stops taking the pills, her body goes into shock, and she gets pms cramps like you can't believe...I called her mom, she's gonna get taken to the hospital, she's having trouble breathing from chest cramps *sigh*, so I'm keepin her calm on the phone.
And what prejudices and inherit racism and envy are you talking about? Myself being born in the US... I'm a bit clueless as to it, please enlighten me.

Some Aboriginal hate. Greek/Italian natives that have moved here. Asians.
General Racism.
General Racism.
Unknown2005-05-08 15:27:01
It's a discussion for another thread, but there is a very widespread feeling of closet racism in Australia. Not so much hating people for where they come from, but attributing certain actions and tendencies to races and cultures.
Aboriginals are a good example to mention. Huge sections of the community have a half-hearted belief that they, Aboriginals, all bludge off welfare and waste their money on alcohol. Why? Could be because that is what is shown on the media. It could also go back to the period of the White Australia Policy, I don't know. I do know, from talking to many people and observing many situations, that it is a general prejudice to place blame and place certain generalisations on the Aboriginal culture.
I am guilty of it myself. As much as I know logically and consciously that social situations, history and economic opportunity play huge roles in the lives of everyone in Australia and that Aboriginals, as a statistic, are disadvantaged, I can't help but have those racist thoughts pop into my head.
The difference is that I know very clearly where logic starts and ends. Stupid, hateful thoughts might come into my head (thoughts I don't want there, don't crucify me for being honest about this) but I know more than enough to push those thoughts aside and act from a place of acceptance.

I see, wow, thanks for being such a good sport about it you two!

Sorry for not expanding, I knew Quidgyboo would do it.
Being drunk, there's not much to do besides be helpful, or an arse.

I'm drunkish and being helpful and an arse, on different posts and forums! Go me!
But, no problem Citan. A little insight into our country is a good thing; we tend to give off a bit of a laid-back arrogance far too often.

Laid back arrogance is better than what my country givesd out... I'm so glad I was raised in the forest away from everything... no people within like 50 miles in any direction... perfect existance.

as far as im concerned, my right to swing my fist around ends where your nose begins
Unknown2005-05-08 16:21:34
Yea...I mean public protesting is cool and all, but getting those kids in on it? Honestly...what kind of 100% sane person can raise a child to have any kind of opinion other than the one they formed for themselves?
Or was that right about hitting my nose Murphy?

My Australian friend here is saying that we just hit the issue on the nose.
(If you want, I can translate most of Murphy's sayings into logic)

the word is yobbo
and i didn't hear it dedicated....someone damn tell me when these things are happening -eye-
A yobbo is like a slob, but not quite a street bum......kind of like an aussie redneck almost. Like to drive utes (like a smaller pickup truck) and drink beer at the pub, usually works in construction or some blue collar trade.

Bah. I was never allowed at our counter-protests, because my friends were afraid I'd stone them or something. And I probably would, too.

Oh right, thought they were Church people. Sorry Lis.
Still fairly applicable though. People who protest against groups of people for no good reason, and think they are morally right, are just wrong.
