Protesting a person's funeral, who died for being something that didn't hurt people, because you think you have the moral highground, is a DAMN WELL THING TO DO. If gays are going to hell, I hope the protesters go further.

I think it comes down to how people feel about different types of opinions. "I'm right, you should treat me as an equal," is a LOT different than "I'm right, you're wrong, I won't STFU until you agree with me."

Both should be able to expressed (though Fred Phelps is INCREDIBLY bad taste, and personally, I think they should all be shot), but one is a lot more harmful, I'd think, to more people, when it makes them fear for their personal safety.

...I've never heard that before. These people are clearly either insane, or have the worst sense of humour ever. Reading through that godhatesswedes thing the majority of their argument rests upon "nobody stood up to protest that the guy was arrested for speaking out against gay rights!"

That's inexcusable. I have trouble believing people that exist. That's not even REMOTELY justifiable.

It stopped being in the bedroom when people started getting killed for being gay.

People used to use the bible to justify slavery and segregation, and it took marches and sit in and going to jail and getting beat the up for people to change their minds. And while being black and being gay are two totally different things, you cant help but look back and say well damn didnt we just go through all this with black people?

Also, they apparently think Mr. Rogers is going to hell for not warning children that being gay is evil. Also, all of Canada. Or something like that. They had a sidebar about it in the paper last time he came around, and I really, really don't feel like looking at that site.

Well, that sort of removes all discussion on the subject. Apparently "tolerance" and "lovingness" are negative qualities as well, now. I think it can safely be said that anything these people have to say can be thoroughly IGNORED. That's just a sign of people not being right in the head, it really is.

Thats just a lack of decency...It's gonna suck in say..10 years, after being gay he become normal and no one cares anymore, then they find something new to vent on... say androgyens?

EDIT- Androgyne= A Person, (statistically having a majority of being Hetero or Bi sexual) with a clearly defined sex, denoted by sexual organ/function and sexondary sexual charecteristics, Yet having no clearl defined gender, as their mind and body exhibit characteristics of both sexes, and can easily be adapted to fit either.
Examples are say, female eyes and face, etc.

That's what you want to think, when you read about them on the internet, or hear about them from a friend. I had trouble believing they existed too until I saw them chanting and waving their signs around. It was only half an hour but I wish I could go back and do it again, because it was that hilarious/sad.

Don't know if anyone said this, as I didn't read the thread - this was big news on my college campus a few years ago, they were planning to stage a rally on a Saturday (I'm from Missouri, rather conservative state) and the campus united against them with a powerful anti-rally planned. They never showed.

The whole deal with God Hates Fags is a legal ploy. Be as antagonistic as you possibly can, hope someone physically assaults you, and sue them.

Not much to be said about this that hasn't already been said, so I'll just say this: Things like this make me wonder if those protesters actually are right, there may certain types of people that need to be exterminated, the terminally asinine or those who are willing to reject all moral values for money, as Bobstar described them, for example.

Do you also defend white supremecists when they broadcast an opinion that all black people are subhuman, don't deserve the same rights as everyone else, and should be segregated from the rest of society? Do you point out the hypocrisy when said black people denounce the supremecists as divisive and hateful, and when they march in support of equal rights regardless of skin colour?

I'm not sure I'm understanding what you are saying here. If children are 'used as weapons', then of course everyone is horrified. That doesn't mean anything short of that is perfectly fine. I detest violence and hatred being paraded in front of children and taught as acceptable so long as the targets are different to you. I don't care whether it is religion, patriotism or any other cause, I don't think it is right.

I'm sorry, but all I see is these people spreading hate and trying to make people believe that God is some hate-mongering thug. I know it isn't as far as suicide bombers, but it's still warping religion and taking it that extra uneasy mile. Sure, the bible says homosexuality is bad, unnatural. But to say GOD HATES is pretty messed up. The notion of freedom of speech is fun and dandy, but opinions like this can be massively hurtful to people.

Agreed, and I dearly wish people would stop almost using "I have a right to free speech" as a JUSTIFICATION for being a prick. It's one of those things that works a lot better on paper than in practice. If people can't be trusted not to abuse their free speech, what other recourse is there than to tell them that, well, they don't DESERVE their free speech? It's not as though anyone's forcing them to not do it, despite what people will try to claim ("omg, you're oppressing my right to free speech!" "No, I'm just telling you to STFU, which is MY right to free speech.") It's very self-defeating.

Who needs free speach when you have the Patriot Act.

As far as FoS goes, no one is forcing you to listen to what they have to say. IF you dont like it dont listen to it. You may not like it but oh well.
