If I wanted to use a cheque internationally to buy, oh, lusternian credits, for example, would I need to convert it to USD or does that happen upon cashing it?
Daganev2005-05-08 09:19:58
First... try using a Check
Normally the best thing to do is to purchase a travelers check I think and do it that way... makes life easier for everyone.

Yes, travelers CHECKS are good. I generaly always use CC when purchasing over seas, but a money order or travelers check would be the best(and safest) way to do it.

Cheques, damnit. I've never heard anyone call them checks before, and I'm not going to start doing it now.
But okies, now where do I find travellers cheques, hmm.

The easiest thing for you to do if you're gonna send a cheque, is to just go to the bank, and ask for them to write you out a cheque for however many US dollars yer gonna send.
Easy.
Easy.
Skyla2005-05-08 11:50:01
And it is cheque!

Check is something you do... like a woman checks her makeup in the rear view mirror while doing 90 miles an hour down the highway. *hides from the women now*
Cheque is something you write... like a man writes a cheque to cover the insurance policy for the woman checking her makeup in the rear view mirror.

Do I need to be a member of a bank for that? I couldn't tell you where the hell my credit union actually has a functioning office. Great internet services, low fees - yadda yadda blah blah - but do actual people work there? Nooo idea.
But anyway, Nayl says I can use a cheque. Considering I have a brand new cheque book, that sounds fun. It shall be on my list of to-buy, after my video card.
Roul2005-05-08 14:31:35
I have a checkbook, in which I write checks when I need to pay someone without using a credit card or cash. Such as my rent check, which also helps because checks typically aren't drawn from your account for 7-10 days, so my checks don't leave my checking account in the dredges.
Unknown2005-05-08 14:56:38
Seven to ten days to draw a cheque? You'll get no more than three days from any business here before they collect your money!
Roul2005-05-08 14:59:06
7-10. Sometimes 15, depending on circumstance, which can be a good thing, or a real bad thing.
Nayl2005-05-08 14:59:31
American spalling sux.
Hax is teh win.

Wow, that is...wow. I guess it could make managing your funds a little more challenging and could explain why American television shows portray people as having so much trouble with their cheque book!
Roul2005-05-08 15:06:23
Banks are retarded.

2. The position or condition of a king so attacked.
14. Sports. The act of blocking or impeding an opponent in ice hockey, either with one's body or one's stick.
since Checks are not normally processed untill days after the time you spend the money, it is obviously along the lines of delaying an attack, putting your king (bankaccount) in peril and just generally making you have this funny feeling in your gut like your getting hurt badly.
However...
cheque
n : a written order directing a bank to pay money; "he paid all his bills by check" v : withdraw money by writing a check
Notice the DEFINITION spells it CHECK. You get non of the implied implications of check us with the silly spelling save maybe the fact that you generally stand in a cue before paying with a check.
