Combat does not, or has not become pointless. Instead, the skill level of players keep rising, and the enjoyment of combat does as well.

You make IRE sound like they make MUDs just for people to combat in. Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps, just perhaps, people might like IRE for its RP and not just its PK?

In my opinion, I say for all purposes, that constant skill changes be lessened and the events in which pure RP is encouraged keep rising.

Saboetuers (Serpents) with traps (darts traps included), transfixing lightwalls, simultaneous dstabs + hypnosis implanting, 3 line illusions, and new very powerful toxins available isn't a drastic change?

Hunters (a la Sentinels) that specialize in a terrain type, and get an entirely new set of animals depending on the terrain they choose (Mountains, Deserts, Forest, etc) isn't a drastic change?

Arboreals (a la Druids) able to choose an environment type other then Forest to imprint, allowing for Mountain, Desert, Beach, etc Arboreals, and allowing them to use portability in the terrain type they chose isn't a drastic change?

Lorekeepers (Runewardens) carving Runes into enemies, allowing for fast constant reafflicting, that is only stopped by applying restoration followed by epidermal? Weapons that are imbued to give epilepsy or chill or burning when they strike, in addition to any toxins they have on them?

Clerics able to smite+sap at the same time, smite + hands at the same time, smite + sear at the same time, and etc. on and on.

Those aren't drastic changes? blink.gif

Combat is just one aspect of the realms. Skill changes, updates, or balances do not really affect RP, since RP is player driven mostly. And people like IRE for many reasons. It's roleplay, it's player driven world and economy, it's political system, and so on. Combat is just a piece of it. However, they did not create all those skills that are for PK only, cannot be used for bashing nor RP/Politics, to just sit there.

Combat is thus an enjoyable aspect, just one of many.

Edit: Also this thread was about Envoy changes, hence why I was commenting on combat and envoy changes. Discussing RP here is a bit off topic, don't you think?

As I've suggested before, I'd like to see more non-combat skills. Also called rp-conducive skills. Pure-RP is all well and good, but it should still be based on 'real' interactions with the gameworld.

I have no significant problem with the current updates.

And since non-combat skills are also done via envoys, this is not offtopic tongue.gif.

Hhhhoooooo boy.

Fighting Nihilists just got a hell of a lot harder.

Damn, I can't wait for the Moon ugprades. :/

EDIT:

bah, before you all bitch, it's a damn 8 second balance

Okay, nevermind worrying too much about that then. But still. tongue.gif Maybe Eiru can dent me now. ninja.gif

EDIT2: Wait, come to think of it that sounds more like a DOWNgrade for some people. :/
Torak2005-05-13 09:29:27
Bleh I don't know whether to be happy or sad about this new barbedtail thing..Guess I will have to play around with it.
Shiri2005-05-13 09:31:50
I think you, specifically, should be sad about it. sleep.gif
Nayl2005-05-13 09:35:28
Is that because he made you diagnose?
And to keep on-topic.
Yay spoton.gif, another random accolade to add from the numberous players.
Shiri2005-05-13 09:36:26
Yes, Torak LOVES his stingwhoring. tongue.gif (Not in a derogatory sense!)
Torak2005-05-13 09:42:07
It works good, only way to currently get off a wrack or whatever else for me since I don't have trans anything but Nihilism. Anyways, like I said I will have to play around and see what I can do, for all I know it will work to my advantage in the sense that I won't just keeping going STI tongue.gif
Thorgal2005-05-13 09:56:59
Obviously, our retarded envoy and some clueless divine approving the change, completely wracked a perfectly good active skill, sting is now utterly useless, you'll be lucky when you get in one unshrugged sting every 60 seconds.
Kaervas2005-05-13 10:33:14
Someone put up the latest envoy post? Can't get online from here.

Kaervas2005-05-13 10:43:30
How long is the balance timer on sting?
Thorgal2005-05-13 10:48:48
8 seconds.
Icarus2005-05-13 12:28:46

It costs 1/4 of your max actually.

And it shouldn't be forceable, hopefully they will change it soon. However, 1/4 mana is way to much to cure something like Faeriefire, but far to little for something like Dark Moon. I think it needs to be axed and replaced entirely.

Many things shouldn't be forcible, but I bet you your bottom dollar that it probably is forcible.
Torak2005-05-13 12:38:51
After messing around with sting I do not like it..at all.

It IS forceable. That is a fact. It however shouldn't be. Hajamin is to tired to listen to the suggestion to make it so. He's been working hard, needs a little sleep. wink.gif
