Oh. My. God.
I just thought of what this means.
Serenwilde/Glomdoring commune channel will consist of the phrase "Mother/Ravenwood target?" 97% of the time.
And newbie transport would be fixed by allowing mutual allies no power cost. *nod me*

Just kill all the envoys and accept collateral damage?

That works for me.

Or not. Teleport, Summon, and Tesseract were fine before. It was what made Lusternia unique. The ease of travel is one of the very fun aspects of Lusternia, and a large part of what makes it a very attractive realm, especially to new players.

Then again, maybe this would actually encourage people to let newbies link for small amounts.
Hm. Maybe it's just because I have flow/spores so I'm not taking this as heavily as everyone else is, I'm thinking that it isn't COMPLETELY borked, just SLIGHTLY borked and completely screwed up for newbies. And Estarra DID say that power restrictions weren't imagined to be so intensive on design...
Again, I'm probably biased, but still.

In particular, this TOTALLY defeats the purpose of teleport nexus. Even if everything else was changed, can't you leave teleport nexus alone, just for the sake of saving us all the headache and spam on channels? You listened to us when you made the skill, and you did it just right: it was so slow, it was all but impossible to abuse...why did you basically take it away?
Sylphas2005-05-13 06:26:48
That's what it was before teleport nexus. I REALLY don't want a return to those days.
Daganev2005-05-13 06:30:23
On the plus side, power rations will be upped
Bricriu2005-05-13 06:33:00
No, I just see newbies getting screwed over.
Shiri2005-05-13 06:33:36
Power rations should be upped across the board, yes. *waits for Gwylifar to get up again*
Daganev2005-05-13 06:35:39
I'm allready in a meeting in glomdoring to up power rations, and we don't have power to spend...
If those cities with 2 billion power points aren't upping rations I feel sorry for those peeps.

Just imagine flow costed 3p. And wasn't guaranteed to work either.
Elryn2005-05-13 06:39:04
Incidentally, the communes use teleport/summon almost as much as everyone else, flow isn't a replacement for teleport. At least, it wasn't.
Maedhros2005-05-13 06:40:59
I remember being able to draw power from Serenwilde as a Novice alt...

Just curious, what exactly was the combat mechanics problem that this change sought to fix?

Really? I find I use flow a LOT more for idle transport. Especially with Hartstone involved, who, notably, can just forest a room for 1p and have me flow in instantly rather than spend 3p and a few seconds teleporting.
My stance is "maybe this isn't a HORRIBLE change" rather than "this is a good change" incidentally. It's not a good thing, just not absolutely drastic failure.
And Maedhros? You weren't supposed to. TSK.
Sylphas2005-05-13 06:45:15
We don't powerblock novices, just tell them not to. Maybe block if they do, not sure.
Tsuki2005-05-13 06:48:28
Teleport nexus is/was a convenience and a time-saver. I walk/swim just about anywhere I know to go anyway, but sometimes it was simpler and nicer to teleport back rather than spending more time trudging all the way home. Especially to offer corpses (not that anything I hunt is likely to make much of a difference, but it's the thought that counts, right?) or if a novice has just joined and needs their initial training.
So now I'll just have to start back earlier to train novices, have some of the corpses decay, and run into cows.
There are other reasons why the change is bad, and others have mentioned those reasons so I won't repeat 'em.
I really don't like the change, and I hope it goes back to how it was.

Yeah, I suppose that is more or less true. This does establish the SIGNIFICANT advantage of a forestal in forest... I don't think I can complain about that anymore.
Daganev2005-05-13 06:50:52
Well, there are few things going on in this.
1. We argued heavily that random pk was caused by the ease in which people can teleport and summon.
2. People complained that thier skills used too much power while other skills with similar abilities used 0 power.
3.Theres some conspiracy amonst people with planar gems and flow who want to kill all the 'big mobs' without magnagora being able to tesseract to them to stop it. (thats a joke)
