For Lusternia radio, just put a link to it directly and the browser will open it in whatever the user uses, whether it be Apple iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. The IRC will be a bigger ordeal to connect people to.
Gwylifar2005-05-15 01:57:32
The URL I posted for IRC includes a Java Chat that'll take you right into the server. Then you just need to /join #Lusternia.
Of course, a Java client there compares to mIRC about the same as the Java client here compares to zMUD, but it's a start, and we can talk 'em through it from there. Gamesnet.net's home page also has links to clients and directions.

If you use Mozilla Firefox as your browser, there's a simple plugin you can download called Chatzilla, that allows you to easily connect to IRC servers.

The link you posted doesn't work. I can't register a new name, or use the java chat thingy.
Computer labs don't let you download new stuff.
Gwylifar2005-05-16 02:32:08
In what sense does it "not work" when you try it? We can't help you fix it if you don't give any details.

Hmmm, but you can browse other sites? Maybe you have some kind of filtering on it? Are you sure you're using the right URL? This is a fairly major site with hundreds or thousands of hits a day -- I doubt it keeps going down just before you visit it and coming up right after.

Okay, let's try this: I want to add a link to IRC and lusternia radio. Please suggest a short informative/instructional paragraph for each with the appropriate links.
Any other Lusternia-related links we can add? Please post suggestions.

This is for the radio. Simplest...just click it. IF you already have software that will play it, it will start by itself.
If not, you can use winamp, windows media, realplayer, TiVo. etc.

*cough* Okay, I assumed Gwylifar or someone would cover this, but I'll do the same thing I did to get Anarias have it work the other day.
There are like a billion ways to get into the IRC chatroom though, so I'll say the only one I know. :/
...I think.

Go to this webpage, to start with. Click on the "Full" tab to begin downloading WinAMP.
Once the program is downloaded, and finished installing, open it and go to "File", "Play URL." Enter "http://rs9.radiostreamer.com:8800/listen.pls" into the box that opens up, and press the play button.

Go to this webpage, and click on any one of the links (there are multiple downloads in case one is down at any time, I think) to download the program. Once it is open and installed (registration is not necessary) a dialog box should open with a list of channels to join. Close this, so that only the bars at the top of the screen and the chat window itself are visible. Click on the badly-drawn lightning bolt symbol in the upper left corner of the screen to connect, and if necessary close the "list of channels to join" window again if it appears. In the bar at the bottom, type "/server irc.gamesnet.net" (without speech marks) and after a pause for it to connect (a large ToS message should appear amongst other information) enter "/join #lusternia".
...I think.

Actually, you can skip on clicking the lightning bolt thing. Just have to close whatever pops up / click the lightning bolt to end the connection if you connect automatically. Then type in the stuff.
Shiri2005-05-21 00:32:07
I'm not so sure. I know at least one person claimed to not have a bar at the bottom until I made her click on the lightning bolt. So, eh. Better safe than sorry.

okay.

We've already added that to the resources page! I think it was Roark's suggestion.
Jalain2005-05-31 06:44:03
I can't seem to find the page. Have been looking around the website, but I must be blind or sommin.
