Dark Moon Strips Defences

Umm..

Shafts is already one of the game's most ridiculous abilities. Do Moon users really need another ridiculous skill? Some defs cost 10 power...

A def stripped every 10 seconds? As if the random afflictions weren't enough, considering it's a ROOM EFFECT? I strongly suggest this is dropped. Seriously...
Marcalo2005-05-15 16:09:14
it does seem WAY overpowered, but if they made it so they couldn't use any other moon abilities with it up that might make it more balanced
Nayl2005-05-15 16:10:24
Including drawdown/moonburst?
Amaru2005-05-15 16:13:04
Let's see. Maximum of 30 enemies. Dark Moon lasts 3 minutes, hits every 10 seconds.

Team of 30 in a room. That's 18 defs stripped per person. Total 540 defs!

And 540 afflictions, too.

I hope this doesn't stack. doh.gif

Right. But even against one person, I don't think it's really fair, most importantly to Stag users, who needed the upgrades more than Moon users. At least balance it so that Ancestral and Dark are similar?
Estarra2005-05-15 16:21:19
I think ancestral curse is fine. it lasts longer and has different afflictions. Why don't you wait to see how skills play out first?
Thorgal2005-05-15 17:47:09
The problem will be, it killing all the powercostly defences...you spend 40 power on defences, then go fight them and end up with nothing left, and it's not like you can just avoid the darkmooned room, since shafts makes the exits vanish...
Unknown2005-05-15 19:28:41
But Shafts isn't permanent, they keep rotating, while there might be a point where there are no exits, sooner or later one will appear and you can get out.
Daganev2005-05-15 19:30:04
stripping defences and giving afflictions... that seems a bit.. umm yeah.
Sylphas2005-05-15 19:38:50
Does it always strip a defense and afflict, or is that just another effect? If both, yes, that's a bit much.

What I'm more concerned about is how Ringwalk is worthless, and Shafts is awesome. Three ringwalking druids, two with stagform, had a roughly 10% chance to stop someone. Shafts takes off the whole exit, so you can't even tumble.
Unknown2005-05-15 19:40:18
Yeah.. Ringwalk is crap compared to Shafts.. I mean, I could understand if it was crap for normal druids, but once you get Stagform, it should get an uber-boost.
Daevos2005-05-15 19:42:06
Its both, affliction and defense stripping at the same time, every hit. And I hear its room effect so it cant be cured. In short its insane, unless what I've heard about it so far is wrong, and I hope it is.
Sylphas2005-05-15 19:48:47
It is a room effect. And both and once is insane. Maybe for an active ability, that's not too bad, with a power cost. But even for 8 power, that's too much. One or the other each round wouldn't be too bad, but it would make it a LOT less useful, because the afflictions aren't the greatest, so most of the power is probably coming from the def stripping right now.

I'm not sure about Stagform being a huge boost, but more than one person should be. One person ringwalking, I can accept as worthless. But a 3 or 4 of us? With a group ringwalking, it should be hard to leave the room. Especially since one of the drawbacks is that iteffects EVERYONE without Stag, not just enemies.

Question, are there any defs which are non-darkmoon-strippable or is it completely undiscriminating? For example, Spring in lowmagic can't take off lich, lichdom, vitae and regens (could be more or I could be wrong, it's 4am, the brain's not running at full power).

It would be extremely disturbing if there were no exceptions, because Thorgal's scenario of 40p worth of defenses stripped in under a minute would be quite probable then.
Unknown2005-05-15 20:23:08
Inquistion still pwns Dark Moon tongue.gif

Hajamin informed us that defence stripping abilities will always randomly strip ANY def, because that is the way it's been hard-coded.
Jadryga2005-05-15 20:28:21
Oh gawd.
Sylphas2005-05-15 20:28:37
There's always been a way to set defs as non-strippable, though. Starburst in Achaea isn't strippable, and I'm pretty sure nothing takes Lichdowm/Vitae but Inquisition.
