QUOTE
You were enemied however not for just putting it in her shop, but putting them in multiple shops without being asked. Essentially littering with something that could not, until Estarra put in the ability, be removed.
Well, you can ask the person for an explaination though first, and not make needless assumptions.
QUOTE
We have to allow some suspension of disbelief for things like combat, but that's no reason we should allow more than we have to. Two wrongs don't make a right.
That's pretty much up to the sum totals of the individuals, and the gods. There does seem to be a disagreement of what's "good fantasy" and what's "silly fantasy" though.

You quit the Commune. You then decided to spread "garbage" around the Commune. No we don't have to ask you first. We may have to explain to our Commune our actions, but we don't have to explain them to someone who is not of our Commune.
Just like when I killed Yor in Celest. I went and apologised to Joli for the bloodshed in Celest, but they could have enemied me for it, and even though I had valid reasons in my eyes for doing what I did, they would not owe me an explanation for the act.

I'm sick of arguing, but just as an FYI--I quit after creating the furniture, so it was done for RP purposes, not for griefing. There was no furniture and most people were going to charge for it.

Which just makes your case look worse. Create a bunch of stuff, and quit so you can't get in trouble for it. Not saying that was your reason, but perception is everything.

QUOTE(Phred @ Jul 19 2005, 01:03 AM)
I understand what you are saying, but if that's the case, why does Lusternia have stuff like Rickee Tavitail (sp?), or stuff like Stabbington Bear, the Psychotic Teddy? It looks like you are least allow for some whimsy. If you're gonna go all serious, why have those elements. I can't understand why that can be tolerated but making a post regarding Beer Elementals, while the delusions of a crazy dwarf, is any less potent. This wasn't meant to be stupidity like "The Order of the Pancake".
154164
Stabbington bear was removed a long time ago, and all that is left these days are two paintings in Magnagora. That said, stabbington was not posting on the public boards, which made it a little more bearable, though most of Us that I know of, are rather happy to have seen him changed.
As for whimsies, yes, there is a lot of light humour apparent in Lusternia if you know where to look for it, however, this humour makes sense according to the outlined physical and natural laws of the roleplay world. Lusternia, like any other world, has an established reality, it is not really all that different from today's society except that gods and magic have completely taken over the place of technology. And even these magical forces abide by natural laws that people who have been here for a while are probably getting very close to understanding.
Beer on the other hand is a substance created by mortals, without mortals, there would be no beer. It would be more logical for there to be a "Cactus" element, then a beer element, since beer is not a natural substance.
Disclaimer: No, there is no cactus element in Lusternia either, I swear, if I catch anyone trying to "channel cactus" I will zap them.
QUOTE(Phred @ Jul 19 2005, 01:03 AM)
I think there is room for some whimsy. Think of the following. Merry and Pippin. Kender, Gnomes, and Gully Dwarves. The Disney Sidekicks that work with the main characters. Xanth. Fantasy does have humor guys. Considering Yor spent some time with the godly pets sitting in Raezon's stomach, I think the GMs at least share this view.
154164
I agree that your Atheist (though impractical) was a lot more feasible then your delusional dwarf looking for Beer elementals. However, as you might have noticed, defiling shrines is bound to get you on the wrong side of some of my brethren.
QUOTE(Phred @ Jul 19 2005, 01:03 AM)
That's what happened, but in a fantasy universe, I would more expect Vito to be seen like those who believe in UFOs. Fringe Alchemy, don't you know. How do YOU know there aren't any Beer Elementals. Sort of the Urban Legend. Or at least tall tales.
154164
Because as I said, Lusternia has natural laws just like your everyday world, you don't have to be a scientist to know some things are just outright impossible; unidentified beings coming from the outer planes to experiment on mortals? Sure, why not? Though going to public with it out of the blue without any sort of evidence or even lead will not make people think you are very credible.
Beer Elementals? Plane of Alcoholic Spirits?
The general reply to that will most likely be, "I want whatever it is you are smoking!"
Also, another thing that ticked Me off especially, is that you made these two posts and then suicided the character. To My eyes, that makes it just an attempt to get some relief and cause some stir, rather then a serious attempt at sustained and credible roleplay.
QUOTE(Phred @ Jul 19 2005, 01:03 AM)
Just to clarify, Wanda wasn't meant to be a joke. I wouldn't spend credits on that type of character, no would create one to be contrary. At first, it was given to me as a suggestion, and I stopped because it wasn't worded as an "official guild order", so I though she was just concerned. When I got the warning tell, I stopped completely. But that turned me off to the guild.
154164
Well, getting yourself killed time and time again isn't a particularly smart thing to do, even if you do not lose any experience at the levels you mentioned, your character, after getting killed a few times, would not really be in any hurry to go through the same, rather painful, experience about two seconds later. Your persistence at getting yourself killed most likely caused your guild elders to think you were not particularly well gifted in intelligence, which can make people want to shape you into something respectable sooner, rather then later.
QUOTE(Phred @ Jul 19 2005, 01:03 AM)
That and the fact Anna couldn't easilly rejoin Serenwilde. (Kind of jarring since Anna gave several early members 50 or 100 credits before she departed, you'd think they'd remember random acts of kindness--unless most of them departed )
154164
Well, you see, giving random people you do not really know high amounts of credits is more likely to be seen as acts of bribery rather then kindness, that might explain your problems here.
QUOTE(Phred @ Jul 19 2005, 01:03 AM)
Well, Vito was kind of funny, at least getting Arix involved as well as the GMs who made the tutors speak to be, even if it was the disappointing "Beer isn't an element".Â
154164
Trust me, a tutor telling you "beer isn't an element" is a hint to take it down a notch.
All of this said however, please do not get me wrong; we do appreciate your enthusiasm and attempted roleplay, however, it would be advisable if you spent some time getting to know Lusternia's society before deciding on what kind of character you are going to create. I would like to offer a few small suggestions that will really help you get started.
First of all, try getting to know your way around, get to know the society. Join some cities but remain quiet instead of trying to get yourself noticed. See what goes on and how people react to things; you cannot honestly choose a role to play if you do not know the society well enough to make at least some prediction of what the reaction to your role will be.
Second, be constructive. If you choose a role, stick to it, we have had several players take roles that were rather out of the ordinary. At first, people will sigh to this and think it an annoyance, but as time goes on and these players display consistent roleplay and values, their credibility will rise, sometimes even to a point where they become very valued members of the realm. (Though one of these characters met a premature end as a shrubbery when he started shouting about France and the US throwing Nuclear bombs at one another, please note that is -not- a smart thing to do.)
Third, don't reach too high. Playing a constructive and credible role takes practice, it is better to start small and work your way up then to reach too high and get thought of as extremely annoying.

Kidaen, thanks for you suggestions.
The Vito thing was meant more to be an eccentric wandering thru for a few days. I didn't realize that it would have such a negative reaction, nor would the posts. It was just meant as something to remember--"remember that crazy dwarf". Based on what I see elsewhere in this forum (under quotes), it seems people behave whimsically.
I will suggest somebody destroy those paintings. For all I knew, SB was a real pet or mobile, and that's not something a new person would get.
I guess I don't have patience for long-term sustained play, maybe I just want a quick fix of conversational RP. I do thank you for your feedback. I appreciate the hard work you guys put into these games. (I loved the Influence system since it keeps you from being a killer).

ALL HAIL THE BEER ELEMENTALS!!!
WWAD?
(What Would Arix Do?)
Arix says to you,"If they speak Merian to me, I just tell them that that position is physically impossible, but they get points for trying."

You would have to bring that up after this long absence...
I'll have to write the fate of Vito, who's probably Tully's crazy second-cousin or something...

Ok, Arix, dude, if we want to see your sig we can see it REGARDLESS of whether you actually put it in the post as well.
Arix2005-11-25 01:47:30
that double signature was accidental
