Faethorn

Back to Common Grounds.

I was just wondering. If Night holds sway over Faethorn does it transform into a Dark Forest? If not can faethorn be divided into half dark forest and half normal forest so I dont have to spend a butt load of power to meld it while Serenwilde can have its way with it without spending power.

I do wonder how Glom and Serenwilde battles over Faethorn will work when Seren has the inherent advantage over it. In terms of game balance, it shouldn't be either kind of forest if you ask me. Otherwise we get back to "hehe, I'll kill their stuff while they're offline" as the only viable strat I would guess.

I'm sure this will be looked at.

When the sceptre is lost, I do think for part of the quest you have to go into Glomdoring giving them the advantage for that though.
Nyla2005-05-19 21:52:59
There is a huge difference between having to go into Glomdoring (which is not that big of a risk as you can avoid guards and totems by being in the trees. And guess what if you ever get into danger you can flow out.), and having to spend massive amounts of power to meld a nuetral location while Serenwilde doesnt.
Vix2005-05-19 22:47:05
Going into Glomdoring is worse I say. You have to be on the ground for the quest to work I believe and not to mention hostile demesnes and the guards and totems you mentioned. Oh, and of course people will be beating on you too.
Unknown2005-05-19 23:10:05
How about the imbalance where Glomdoring just has to kill the Fae wild in Faethorn and bring them to the Avatars? Whereas, Serenwilde has to do a quest to get them to follow them, by collecting honeycombs, and only 4 honeycombs appear per hour. That right there is in fact the largest imbalance.

I understand that for utter balance it would mean dividing Faethorn into half tainted/half untainted ground... but I don't think it would make much sense. If Faethorn becomes tainted while under Night's influence, well, that is unfortunate but at least it has some reasoning behind it. (And I hope a lot of the natural areas of the Basin also become sick if that happens, incidentally.) But at least while it is uninfluenced or under Moon's influence, I don't think the tainted forest expanding into it would be a good thing.

Not everything is totally balanced between the two communes anyway. For instance, Glomdoring has the remnant of a great bashing ground inside its borders (meaning that both racial regen, totem regen and conglutination give advantages), while Serenwilde has nothing comparable.
Unknown2005-05-19 23:55:58
So there is no equivalent quest that requires Glomdoringers to enter Serenwilde? If so then I guess it would be balanced.

Thats why I asked if after being under the influence of Night if Faethorn would be converted to a dark forest. Also Maeve awakened her "Dark" side so it would make sense that half of faethorn would become a dark forest.

Just remember that the ethereal plane represents the health of the natural world on prime.

If Faethorn becomes tainted, I would expect a lot of the natural wildernesses (ie oleandir, grey moors, mountain ranges, etc) to become sick and twisted.

As I said though, there are existing advantages that both communes have.

12. You just have to beg most of them off the stupid pilfering Fae knights, which is unreliable because they quite regularly decide to cough up gold instead. But sometimes you can get lucky, I've had about 8 once I seem to remember.

No, there is not.

It was mentioned in another thread that home made honeycakes work just as well.
Sylphas2005-05-20 05:09:21
Yeah, even four honeycombs, when given to a cook, can clear out Faethorn. I got 16 cakes from that last time.
Unknown2005-05-20 05:20:14
The point is, someone can kill every Fae in Faethorn very quickly and efficiently, and not have to wait for honeycombs, or go and give them to a player cook (versus Butter). It's far easier, and a huge advantage when in the future there is actual competition (of which there is none now). It's set in favour of Glomdoring for when that does occur.

That's fine, but your side of the fae-turning thing is still easier.
Sylphas2005-05-20 05:23:46
Yeah, good point. Novices can clear everything with ease, especially with banshees/sprites/sylphs grounded.
Unknown2005-05-20 05:58:32
I wish they would fix flying stuff already. I was wondering why I never saw a banshee until recently.
Unknown2005-05-20 08:12:03
Actually it's not as easy as it sounds, once we kill one Fae, we're automatically enemied to Faethorn, which means all the Faethorn Fae, hehe, will attack us..well they should. I mean unless they're going to start making it so that if Night rules Faethorn, giving the cakes and stealing the Fae from Faethorn for the Moon will enemy them... but that's not very likely now, is it? Both the Night Ruling and the enemying .

Elryn i also believe there are numerous things within Serenwilde you can bash, there's always a few Cows on the Highways, the Thingies that'r in the Moon River and the Tree Frogs
